We are seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Product Development Manager to lead our Stormwater Product Engineering team. Reporting into the Innovation and Development Manager, the Product Development Specialist - Coatings will be based out of Ashtabula, Ohio and will be responsible for providing developmental, technical support to our customer base in the Coatings markets and provide start-up support to Operations when projects are scaled up to production quantities.

- Being responsible for the completion of bench work and processing work necessary to convert opportunities or to resolve issues through formulation.

You will become a technical and formulation expert while working closely with a cross-functional team to launch products. Responsibilities
+ Interact as part of a cross-functional team including marketing, procurement, legal, and external third parties such as global suppliers and contract manufacturers
+ Develop formulations and evaluate performance of products leveraging internal and external analytical resources
+ Understand and apply underlying technical understanding of chemical and material interactions
+ Characterize new and existing raw materials for product formulations
+ Project management of development projects, from concept to launch using stage gate process, to deliver against timelines and milestones aligned with the Marketing Cycle Plan and customer requirements
+ Analyze and interpret data to meet project targets and objectives and make recommendations that drive efficiency and manage risk
+ Prepare and present project reports
+ Work with marketing, sales, and regulatory in developing competitive claims and product demonstrations
+ Define and use SOPs, best practices, experimental designs, and test methods to ensure a robust and rigorous development process
+ Develop and maintain professional relationships with suppliers, technical experts, etc.
+ Identify and drive capability and process improvements to enable more efficient product development
+ Participate in establishing Intellectual Property related to assigned programs
What we are looking for
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science or equivalent work experience
+ Experience in formulation chemistry, raw materials, surfactants, and the ability to use this knowledge to develop innovative, cost-effective products
+ 1-2 years experience leading chemical research designing and developing formulas/products, developing test plans, analyzing data, and determining next steps in a development program
+ Ability to lead projects from fundamentals through scale up and implementation
+ Capable of working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
+ Occasional travel, including international, may be required up to 10%

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Technical leadership of R&D projects related to the qualifications of flexible polyolefin films and new product development for targeted customer applications by applying a hands-on approach and scientific principles within the application space for pressure sensitive labels.
+ Ensure product development technical feasibility as evidenced by external feedback and market/organizational requirements. Leverage roadmaps and other resources to present technical alternatives that align with the business unit's strategic goals.
+ Conduct experiments, communicate scientific approaches, and convey results with data. Present technical analysis to support product approval and adoption through the Stage-Gate process.
+ Develop new test methods and standard protocols to be applied to filmic pressure sensitive labeling.
+ Develop new products from pilot to production scale through technical leadership and by collaborating with multi-functional project teams, planning experimental designs, and coordinating pilot and plant trials.
+ Collaborate globally with other technical experts to develop technical expertise further.
+ Work closely with procurement and suppliers to ensure product mix meets business objectives.

Qualifications

+ Knowledge of polyolefin materials and manufacturing processes required.
+ 6+ years of materials industry experience in developing materials for labeling and packaging with performance testing for various applications is preferred.
+ Proven experience supporting/leading new product development in an R&D environment.
+ Experience using Six-Sigma or Lean Sigma for new product development preferred.
+ Strong project and time management skills and experience with the Stage-Gate process.
+ Proficient in material science, with expertise in physical and analytical laboratory testing techniques, and contributing to developing innovative techniques.
