**What you'll do:**
This role will be a part of the Lighting Engineering team and be responsible for ensuring our products meet stringent safety and compliance standards worldwide. Your responsibilities will include handling both NEC, CSA and global certifications such as ATEX and IECEx, and evaluating new products for inclusion in our portfolio. You will also validate and scrutinize test data sheets, construction review documents, and other necessary documentation related to 3rd party certification. Product Safety Engineering is paramount in the design, manufacturing, testing, servicing, and monitoring of products. This role focuses on the integration of product safety risk assessments and principles throughout the entire design process and the elimination of safety concerns and risks that impact existing products in field. The impact of the role is cross-functional and collaborates with different departments to balance product safety, EHS, regulatory and compliance, and customer requirements.
**Job Description**
**Roles and Responsibilities**
+ Execute a process to identify and mitigate safety risks inherent to the product design to an acceptable level; conduct rigorous safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations, utilize human factors principles to drive design improvements in order to eliminate human error in the operation and maintenance of the product in the field
+ Lead product safety risk assessments for new and existing (installed base equipment) units, including Product Hazard Assessments (PHA), Hazardous Operations Studies (HAZOP), Accident Scenario Review (ASR), quantitative risk modeling, and Job Hazard Analyses.
+ Develop in-depth knowledge of a Battery Energy Storage Systems and other relevant technical disciplines. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute product safety strategy.
+ Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
+ A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent.
+ Provides product safety training and overviews to new team members and refresher trainings to existing team members
+ Identify and document hazard mitigation of new / existing designs. Work with cross-functional team to implement mitigations.
+ Assist in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) for safety related concerns by working with cross-functional teams representing Fleet Support Engineering, Design Engineering, EHS, Legal, Supplier Quality, Sourcing, and Chief Engineers Office
+ Provide thorough documentation of risk assessments (assumptions, team meetings, and program status in the SAFER database
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Safety, or Industrial Engineering or similar field from an accredited college or university

Key Accountabilities
- Monitor state and federal regulatory developments, trends, and assess impacts on requirements for Sasol products manufactured domestically or imported into the US.

- Represent Sasol to customers, regulatory agencies, trade associations, and industry on matters of product safety and compliance.
- Lead or participate in corporate ISO audits and other company audit initiatives, as needed.
- Bachelors Degree in Chemistry , Sciences, Industrial Hygiene or related chemical fields.
- 3+ years of regulatory affairs, product safety/ stewardship, or related experience in the Chemical industry.
- Competent knowledge of US regulations and standards (EPA TSCA, OSHA, and FDA); Canada, EU, Asia-Pacific product laws and Dangerous Goods (DOT, IATA, HMIS, NFPA).
- Works independently,and interacts well with all company functions.

Product Safety & Compliance Engineer
The Product Safety & Compliance Engineer is responsible for leading the verification and validation of products across development, sustaining, compliance, and certification activities. This role provides the infrastructure, test methods, and capabilities necessary to ensure design integrity, manufacturing reliability, quality, and compliance. This individual will ensure that all products, assemblies, and components are thoroughly tested, meet performance and certification requirements, and are free from defects before reaching the customer.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute verification and validation test methods, protocols, and reports for components, assemblies, and electro-mechanical systems.
- Design test cases, methodologies, processes, and acceptance criteria to validate product life cycle performance and quality metrics.
- Build and maintain best-in-class test capabilities, including automated test equipment (ATE), data acquisition, logging, and analytics tools.
- Conduct functional testing of electro-mechanical assemblies, mechanical components, and electrical/control circuits.
- Integrate Design for Test (DFT) principles into new product development (NPD) and engineering change (ECR) processes.
- Develop and implement test methods for root cause analysis (RCA) of failures.
- Lead lab testing and certification activities to UL, CE, and ETL standards, ensuring compliance with ASME A17.5, ASME A18.1, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with certification agencies (UL, ETL, TUV, CSA) and external laboratories to achieve product compliance.
- 5+ years of professional product engineering experience, including 5+ years in a lead or senior test engineering role.
- Proven expertise in mechanical and electro-mechanical system testing and validation.
- Proficiency with CAD and 3D modeling software platforms such as SolidWorks and CREO.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), environmental, and vibration testing methods.
- Direct experience with lab testing for UL, CE, and ETL certifications and compliance to ASME A17.5 and ASME A18.1 standards.
- Working knowledge of product compliance and certification processes with agencies such as UL, ETL, TUV, CSA, and external labs.
- Experience in FDA medical device compliance is a plus.

This position is responsible for:
+ Independently performing testing and evaluation on a variety of products developed by NI, Emerson Test and Measurement Business Group, to the provisions of U.S., Canadian, EU and other international product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients.
+ Providing local expertise for Test and Measurement Equipment, including complex systems, and mentoring and training less senior technical person
+ Independently conduct evaluation of products to settle compliance with applicable standard(s).
+ Work with 3 rd party certification bodies and regulatory agencies to submit and deliver certifications of our products.
The Sr. Safety Engineer is responsible for more complex projects. To do this, Sr. Safety Engineer must:
- Read and settle applicability of codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test)
- Read and understand schematics, assembly drawings, manuals, BOMs, etc.
- Validate the project scope and sample applicability
- Project handle products through 3rd party certification agencies, mitigating issues, and staying within budget and completion dates
- Under scope of the project, identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing; Follow established test plan; Set up and operate EUT;
- Conduct detailed construction review; document results; use industry standard test report formats (TRFs) and templates
- Perform testing of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include, but are not limited to input rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault testing.
- Provide local technical expertise and maintain reviewer status for other engineer's and technician's work
- Proactively develop and communicate test procedures, new test fixtures and report shells
- Support the investigation of technical complaints, critical issues settle, and product failures and support accreditations efforts by engaging in technical audits locally
- Demonstrate enough product and/or standards knowledge to be considered a domain expert (SME) that can be assigned and work independently on long lead R&D projects
- May actively represent NI by participating on standards/industry committees and/or associations.
- Perform preliminary design reviews (PDR)
- Follow quality control procedures and follow Quality Management System (QMS).
- Communicate project status and test results to R&D client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.
- Provide ongoing support to clients as needed.
Qualifications:
+ 5 or more years practical, hands-on experience in the field of Regulatory Safety and Compliance, including testing, report generation, critical component evaluation and working with or at a 3 rd party certification agency or lab
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering
+ Strong presentation, communication and social skills to interact with Sales, Manufacturing, R&D, 3rd Parties and external customers
+ Attention to detail with high skills for quality control, documentation, and repeatability
+ Strong understanding of electronics, engineering, and safety compliance principles, theories and concepts in accordance with national and international standards
+ ISO GUM measurement uncertainty analysis experience
+ Knowledge of ISO 17025 (Previous accreditation implementation a plus) and preferably IEC
+ Strong understanding of IEC 61010-1, IEC 62368-1
+ Preferable understanding of machines, electronics for machines, and regulatory compliance of machinery per IEC 60204-1 and NFPA 79
+ Understanding of 3-Phase power and components for power distribution, protection, and control

Interview Process

**Role Overview:**
The Senior Engineer, as part of the Product Safety team, provides full life cycle Safety Engineering support for dozens of civil and military programs across GE Aerospace's Electrical Power and Avionics teams. The role frequently coordinates with cross-functional leadership teams and represents the Product Safety organization. The Senior Engineer - Product Safety plans and executes Safety Programs for new product development as well as supports investigations of potential safety concerns with fielded products.
**Roles and Responsibilities:**
+ Work with leadership to define and implement safety program plans for large and complex development programs
+ Work with Safety leadership to represent and advance the interests of the Safety community with executive leadership, including both technical and organizational initiatives

**Required Qualifications** :

+ 10+ years of experience as a Safety Engineer within the aerospace industry
+ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
+ Proven ability to analyze data to identify process improvements
+ Demonstrated ability to promote and implement change within a business

The Product Safety Engineer-Construction Division is responsible for collaborating closely with internal business partners to develop, test and qualify products to be compliant with industry safety and regulatory standards. Assists in the development of product safety policies and procedures. Represents company on pertinent domestic and international technical societies and standards organizations committees. Serves in a consultative capacity to the Legal Department regarding worldwide response to product compliance and injury incidents.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
+ Evaluate and interpret U.S. and International product safety and regulatory standards as they apply to divisional products.
+ Provide safety and regulatory related guidance to product development teams and lead in coordinating safety and regulatory reviews to ensure divisional products meet all standards required for the markets they are sold into.
+ Communicate and educate divisional engineering, product evaluation, and technical publications teams on standards changes and work with teams on product changes to ensure compliant product.
+ Lead and coordinate action plans for resolving identified safety and regulatory issues in a timely manner.
+ As appropriate, work with third-party certification bodies and third-party consultants to obtain certifications.
+ Review and provide feedback for operator's manuals, on-product markings, and marketing materials.
+ Compile and verify safety and regulatory compliance documentation.
+ Represent company on standards development organization committees.
+ Serve as liaison to the Legal Department and work collaboratively with Legal on safety and regulatory compliance topics.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical, or Agricultural Engineering program, or closely related engineering field
+ Engineer III - 5+ years of relevant experience in product safety or product testing.
+ Engineer IV- 7+ years of relevant experience in product safety or product testing.
+ Experience in international standards and regulatory requirements for earthmoving, construction, or similar products
+ Previous experience in product safety and regulatory compliance and standards promulgation
+ Collaborative team player with ability to communicate and work effectively with various stakeholders
+ Ability to work in a dynamic environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
+ Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new systems quickly
+ Ability to work independently and apply engineering principles to regulatory requirements
