Position Overview:
As a Quality Control Manager, you will oversee all aspects of welding quality control and compliance. You will ensure that welds and fabrication processes meet or exceed industry codes, maintain QA documentation, and lead internal and external audit processes. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone with deep experience in welding and inspection, and a strong working knowledge of industry standards such as AWS, AISC, ISO, and NDT protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and implement all quality control procedures for welding and fabrication processes.
- Ensure compliance with AISC Bridge Code, ISO 9001, and other applicable standards.
- Maintain and organize QA/QC documentation for inspections, audits, and certifications.
- Schedule and track internal audits and third-party inspections.
- Work closely with production and engineering to resolve welding and quality issues.
- Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
- Supervise Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) processes and evaluate results.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Train and mentor welders and quality team members on best practices and code compliance.
- Act as primary contact for quality matters during client audits and regulatory inspections.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in Welding Quality Control, preferably in structural steel or bridge fabrication.
- Must have a strong understanding of welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW) and fabrication standards.
- Certification or familiarity with:
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods

· Initiate and follow up of Nonconformances as required
· Report all unusual conditions or results, unsafe conditions, broken or out of calibration equipment, procedures not in effect to Quality Management
· Maintain a clean work environment to eliminate potential product contamination
· The ability to implement and follow inspection processes
· Suggest improvements in workflow and equipment to make inspection more efficient and effective

A typical day looks like:
* Assist with the Development and help maintain a comprehensive quality control plan that aligns with Independence Excavating's Executive Team's quality requirements, project specifications and industry standards.
* Upon project award, QC Manager will develop a QC plan in consideration of specifications, products, and critical performance requirements. Plan will be presented to the construction team and audit checklists will be generated to ensure conformance to the plan.
* Verify on-site project engineer (or whomever is assigned) completes QC checklists for pertinent scopes of work. Conduct site inspections as needed to ensure work is performed according to IX QC plan.
* Establish internal process to audit & accurately maintain records of inspections, materials testing, and other quality-related activities.
* Identify and manage non-conformances, ensuring timely and effective corrective actions are taken.
* Stay vigilant for potential hazards and develop plans to mitigate safety risks when performing high risk testing.
* Communicate quality requirements to all stakeholders, including subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
* Collaborate effectively with IX project managers, superintendents, and other team members.
* Provide training to QC personnel on quality control procedures and best practices.
* Develop and maintain a summary of project lessons learned.

Do you have what it takes?
* High School Diploma or equivalent is required and associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
* OSHA 10/30 as required.
* Five (5) years of previous related experience is required working primarily in quality management of large commercial construction projects.

Working Conditions:
