As a member of the Plant Management Team, the Production Manager is accountable for the management, direction and operating results of the Production Department. The Production Manager leads the plant production objectives and the lowest cost consistent with safety, quality, health and environmental requirements. Delegation of authority through key subordinates in production is essential. Must have relevant experience in polymer compounding and related equipment.
Requirements:
An undergraduate degree in an engineering, technical, or related field of study preferred or combination of education and related experience.
- A minimum of three to five years of progressive supervisory experience in a unionized manufacturing facility.
- Excellent communications (oral & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact with customers to solve problems and promote new business opportunities.
- Good judgment and the demonstrated ability to interact with hourly employees, union representatives, co-workers and managers at all levels of the organization, along with outside vendors, lawyers, and consultants.
- Strong reasoning skills and ability to analyze problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Email.
- Knowledge of 5s and Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
Experience and Skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop complete understanding of all production lines and associated equipment.
2. Provide technical knowledge to implement safety, quality, and productivity improvements.
3. Knowledge of customer products, raw materials, and product characteristics.
4. Prepare documentation such as process instructions, work instructions, forms, etc. to properly document the necessary processes.
5. Provide necessary support in developing plant's production schedule.
6. Communicate with customers on routine basis to discuss technical data, product performance, etc.
7. Help train and support operations personnel and supervision.
8. Provide necessary input and assistance to new products, projects, etc.
9. Communicate and provide input to maintenance for troubleshooting or maintaining of equipment.
10. Assist in proper handling and management of customer owned raw materials.
11. Provide leadership coverage where needed.
Qualifications:
1.A bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical Engineering from a 4-year college or university; plus at least 10 years related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and training, and 5 years of supervision experience in an unionized manufacturing facility.
2. Strong technical knowledge of plastic compounding/extrusion
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
5. Strong reasoning skills, ability to analyze problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
6. Experience with Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma is a plus

POSITION TITLE: Production Trainer/Translator
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is designed to provide hands-on and classroom training to new and current employees, maintaining training documents, partner with plant personnel to develop, improve, and instruction plant personnel on various Manufacturing/Operations techniques. The Production Trainer/Translator will also conduct translation of documents and deliver translated training to employees in order to improve mutual communication of technical process, activities, and issues.
REPORTING TO: Reports to the Plant Superintendent.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: • Understands and conducts hands-on training with employees in all aspects of production line processes, including equipment functionality and operation.
• Understands and trains employees on the physical properties on the Mixing Process including the specification of Mix, testing of Mix, the ability to make the Mixes, etc.
• Understands, and conducts hand-on training with employees on the proper process of the following: running equipment, splicing raw material films, fabric rolls, or support rolls, and making necessary equipment adjustments, etc.
• Demonstrates the ability to fully comprehend and instruct others on all operational functions as well as all basic safety aspects (partnering with the EHS Department) of the Production line, Mixers and Forklift Operations, Shipping, Lab, etc.
• Provides both hands-on training with equipment and delivers classroom instruction, including refresher trainings, as necessary.
• Leads weekly documented training status updates with trainee, HR, and Manufacturing/Operations, including updating and maintaining employee onsite training records.
• Comprehends and conducts training on all product specifications and standards.
• Provides basic troubleshoot training for equipment issues and provides tips to effectively communicate with Maintenance to resolve problems.
• Partners with Plant Process Engineer to create, implement, and improve work instructions.
• Meets with Supervisor and or Production manager Daily on training needs.
• Partners with HR to update and maintain employees training files.
• Conducts translation of oral and written manufacturing training documents/instructions in English and Spanish as well as trains in both languages.
• Performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma or GED required.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing/ operations facility in the following areas: Production, Shipping, Lab, etc., specifically a roofing manufacturing organization or similar industry.
• Demonstrated experience and ability to effectively conduct basic troubleshooting within a manufacturing environment.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English at a technical level.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Previous supervisory experience in manufacturing environment.
• Previous trainer or teacher experience.
• Certified Forklift Train the Trainer.
WORK LOCATION: • This position would be in one of our Plant locations: PA, FL, TX, AZ, or NV.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: • Work environment varies from an office setting to periodic exposure to the typical elements in the manufacturing facilities.
