Geisinger seeks an outstanding researcher to serve as a Staff Scientist for the newly created Geisinger Program Evaluation (GPE) team, whose purpose is to conduct rigorous evaluations of potentially high impact programs intended to improve patient health or improve efficiency at Geisinger.
Job Duties
The GPE Staff Scientist will be responsible for helping lead rigorous, primarily non-randomized (or partially randomized) evaluations of existing or new programs at Geisinger. The Staff Scientist will help lead or participate in study design, analysis (preferably using R), and reporting/dissemination of results to internal stakeholders (e.g., Geisinger leaders) as well as to academic audiences (e.g., at conferences and in academic publications). Evaluations from GPE team members have been published or are forthcoming in high-impact journals, including PNAS, Nature Human Behaviour, JAMA Network Open, and The Journal of Pediatrics. Additionally, the Staff Scientist will coordinate with other team members (e.g., Staff Scientist, Statistician, Project Manager).
+ Develops and leads research projects within the defined scope of the supervising faculty member's research program.
+ Responsible for gathering preliminary data for grant applications, completion of objectives of funded external grants, and preparation of completed work for publication.
+ Contributes to writing grant applications and manuscripts.
+ May submit authored grants with permission of the supervisor.
+ Performs literature searches to gather information pertaining to research projects or procedures in order to develop new protocols, projects or grants applications for assigned work group.
+ Responsible for determining experimental design, collecting data, performing calculations, and analyzing results.
+ Responsible for reviewing research or data controls and determining that the research results are valid.
+ Maintains and completes appropriate records of the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions from each research project.
+ May oversee the work of support personnel in the work group at the discretion of the supervising faculty member.
+ Participates in research meetings and formal seminars to present, explain, and discuss research conducted by the work group.
+ May deliver presentations to extramural audiences at national meetings and academic institutions.

Position Details
The ideal candidate will have expertise in field(s) related to health economics or health services research, and in non-randomized evaluation techniques (e.g., regression discontinuity, propensity scores) in a healthcare or other industry setting. A Ph.D. in economics, public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, marketing, management, psychology, or another relevant scholarly discipline is strongly preferred, with track records of publishing original empirical research, and collaborating with others.
The GPE Staff Scientist will be based in Danville, Pennsylvania at the main campus and headquarters of Geisinger. Remote work from another U.S. location (with occasional travel to Danville) may be possible for an exceptional candidate.

Major duties and responsibilities:
+ Assisting the Associate Director in day-to-day operations and development of the GPE
+ Liaising, initiating, and coordinating execution of projects with internal and external stakeholders; this includes Geisinger groups such as clinical departments, the IRB, and the compliance, quality, and legal functions
+ Conducting literature searches and reviewing the literature to inform the team's projects
+ Contributing to or leading manuscript drafting and submission for select evaluation studies (first author opportunities available)
+ Participating in the design of interventions for evaluation and implementation at Geisinger
+ Participating in data management, analysis, visualization, and reporting to assess the effectiveness of Geisinger programs, including assessing their effects on patient and other outcomes and quantifying the associated costs and return on investment
+ Engaging in open science best practices (e.g., preregistration, preparing and sharing de-identified data and code)
+ Disseminating GPE findings at scientific conferences and to lay audiences (e.g., sharing findings with Geisinger leaders)
Required qualifications:

Posting Summary
This newly developed role will report to the Executive Vice Dean and will provide services across the medical education continuum including faculty affairs. The Assistant/Associate Dean for Program Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) will oversee the program development, data collection and analysis to inform and support the improvement of our educational programs along the educational continuum including our faculty and resident development programs. In addition, this role will work closely with other units and individual faculty to promote the scholarship of education across New Jersey Medical School. The successful candidate will be appointed at a faculty rank commensurate with experience and consistent with RBHS guidelines for appointments and promotions.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Oversee all aspects of evaluation of the medical education program, including planning, data collection, compilation/ analysis and interpretation as well as activities related to preparation and dissemination of program evaluation data reports.
- Lead efforts to optimize the survey and assessment systems for evaluation of 1) individual curricular elements and 2) the overall educational programs, for continuous quality improvement of the curriculum and to monitor the impact of curricular changes.
- Collaborate with members of the leadership team to support the development of a comprehensive learner assessment system that will allow for evaluation of learner outcomes along the full extent of the MD-degree program curriculum.
- Direct the continuous monitoring process for compliance with all twelve LCME accreditation standards; serve as a core member of the LCME preparation team.
- Lead efforts with appropriate individuals/groups to develop and implement plans that address any identified areas of potential non-compliance with LCME accreditation standards.
- Serve as a member of the professional development team, working to promote and expand medical education scholarship. As appropriate, apply for and work with other units to apply for grants to support educational scholarship, present work nationally, and publish scholarship that advances education.
- Actively participate in curriculum, student affairs, admissions, and faculty meetings as needed and requested by the Executive Vice Dean.

- Support programs across Enterprise by responding to requests for data advisory and analysis services in a timely and professional manner.
- Engage in the full life cycle of Enterprise's evaluation and impact assessment projects, especially those tasks that relate to data collection and analysis, documentation, and presentation of findings.
- With support from senior staff, implement mixed-methods evaluation approaches, including context-setting analysis of community conditions, identification of relevant quantitative metrics and data collection strategies, and analysis and synthesis of quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., surveys, interviews, etc.).
- Develop data visualizations, maps, interactive dashboards, and written reports that effectively communicate findings to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Increase and maintain the accuracy and efficiency of our data analysis work through data cleaning, code development, and QA. Create and maintain proper documentation for key processes.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships across teams and at all levels of the organization, and with external clients and stakeholders.
- Undergraduate degree required.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience required. Graduate degree may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching, analyzing and communicating findings from datasets commonly used in housing, demographics, and community development research.
- Demonstrated experience with extracting and analyzing data from common housing and demographic data sources such as the Census Bureau (e.g., ACS and PUMS), HUD (e.g., Picture of Subsidized Households, CHAS, LIHTC database), the National Housing Preservation Database (NHPD), the FFIEC Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), and other familiar sources used in the field.
- Knowledge of housing and community development issues, urban economics, demographics and/or real estate development
- Proficiency with standard statistical methods and software (proficiency in R or Python).
- Experience in visually representing quantitative information through maps, charts, graphics, etc. Demonstrated proficiency with one or more geographic information systems required (e.g., ArcGIS Pro/ArcGIS Online, QGIS).
- Expertise with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel and Power BI).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience writing research briefs, reports or case studies.

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree required.
Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience required. Graduatedegree may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching, analyzing and communicating findings from datasets commonly used in housing, demographics, and community development research.
Knowledge of housing and community development issues, urban economics, demographics and/or real estate development
Demonstrated experience with extracting and analyzing data from common housing and demographic data sources such as the Census Bureau (e.g., ACS and PUMS), HUD (e.g., Picture of Subsidized Households, CHAS, LIHTC database), the National Housing Preservation Database (NHPD), the FFIEC Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), and other familiar sources used in the field.
Proficiency with standard statistical methods and software (proficiency in R or Python).
Experience visually representing quantitative information through maps, charts, graphics, etc. Demonstrated proficiency with one or more geographic information systems required (e.g., ArcGIS Pro/ArcGIS Online, QGIS).
Expertise with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel and Power BI).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience writing research briefs, reports or case studies.
Experience working with diverse, collaborative teams, virtually or in person. Positive attitude, patience, and willingness to listen to and teach experts in other fields.
