As a Project Surveyor at Atwell , you will play a critical role in the success of our survey group and the execution of projects that vary in size, detail, and complexity. You will be equipped with a collaborative team of office and field staff, and autonomy to manage projects start to finish in an entrepreneurial-style environment as you are groomed for your next role. Our diverse project scopes in residential/commercial land development and renewable energy will allow you to cross-market and grow your skill set.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and share your expertise by providing your input during the proposal and project planning phase in the establishment of project scope, budgets, staffing, and project schedule.
- Work with the Project Managers to ensure the scope and budget of projects are on track.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D daily and related engineering software packages to complete assignments on time and within prescribed standards and budgets.
- Review survey field calculations and adjust as needed.
- Effectively communicate with internal staff, contractors, inspectors, and team leaders to maintain a dynamic team environment.
- Attend paid training and development events, industry conferences, and networking opportunities.
Qualifications
- The ideal Project Surveyor will have an advanced understanding of; Boundary Surveys, ALTA Surveys, Leveling, Traversing, GPS, Data Collections, Legal Descriptions, Plan interpretations, along Real Estate Documents
- Prior experience with Trimble equipment, and Trimble Business Center is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Prior experience working in the field on a survey crew is highly preferred.
- LSIT or PLS is desired.

POSITION: Project Surveyor
LOCATION: Syracuse, NY
SUMMARY: Our client, a multidiscipline firm offering comprehensive Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geology, Environmental, and Surveying services, is looking for a Project Surveyor to join their growing team. As a Project Surveyor , you will act as the lead professional to ensure quality products, providing technical and professional consultation on projects involving survey issues. You will negotiate contracts, prepare proposals, and manage financial and technical aspects of projects, including directing and instructing other field staff. Specific activities include developing sound Scopes of Work based on clients’ requirements, interpreting maps, design and architectural plans, and specifications to effectively complete assignments, including construction stakeouts and surveys. You will work with the Survey Division Manager and Director of Marketing to further business development.
- Required Qualifications: A.A.S. degree in Surveying Technology or related field and/or a minimum of seven (7) years of experience with Survey Project Management or combination of education and experience.
- New York State Professional Land Surveyor (P.L.S.).
- A thorough knowledge of all types of land surveys.
- Complete knowledge of the purpose and procedures for field and office work regarding surveys.
- Ability to effectively use GPS, total stations, and robotic total station survey equipment.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply Boundary Law while performing boundary surveys.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- May be required to undergo drug testing as required for specific projects or fingerprinting as required for security clearance purposes.
Pay Range: $72,000 – $104,000 per year, paid weekly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
