Job Description

Prototyping is an exploratory design team. We design software to explore what new hardware might bring to our current and future products. It is our job to invent and propose new features and sometimes entirely new products. Over the past decade we have incubated products like iPad, Pencil, and Apple TV Siri Remote. We pioneered force and haptics for Multi-Touch track-pads, iPhone, and Apple Watch. We were instrumental in the interface design and development of multi-camera systems, LiDAR, True-Depth, Face ID, Animoji, and depth photography. We express our ideas through pictures, animation, video and code.We do not want to hire more people like the people already on the team. We are looking for someone to add something special. We are open to people with any background and any amount of experience. It does not matter to us what tool you use or what medium you work in. We are interested in your ideas and how you express them. We do not expect you to be able to do all of these things. If you have any of these capabilities, we would like to hear from you.
* Visual Design. Create static visual communication artifacts. Important aspects are form, color, alignment, type, and layout. Illustrated or rendered. You will make things with aesthetic breadth beyond the Apple style.
* Animation. Use motion in a complementary and tasteful way to direct attention and describe interactions. You will create motion that strike a balance between artful how it feels, and practical what it communicates.
* Prototyping. Make something people can try with taps, swipes, or clicks. Not necessarily an app, whatever communicates an idea.
* Interaction. Design new affordances and capabilities that are discoverable, easy to perform, and provide clear feedback. You pay attention to how everything you make responds before, during, and after interaction.Communication. You can explain your work to people from different disciplines using different media. You provide constructive feedback. You encourage dialogue and inclusion.
Open. You accept feedback on your work and act on it. You are willing to try anything - even things you don't believe in.
Reliable. You do what you say you will do, when you said you would do it. When things change, you tell people.
Invention. Unexpected ideas and solutions. Inspiration and techniques from other fields or disciplines.
Initiative. Ideas and concepts no one asked for. You just jump in and make things. You do not wait for instructions or need permission.
Divergence. You try multiple approaches and learn from them before deciding what to do next. Willing to share concepts that might challenge or displease. Willing to keep unpopular options alive to see where they go.Array

Job Description

Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction primarily software-defined and work towards a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings are built within a single day with minimal labour. We're a growing team (about 40 team members) of mostly engineers and technicians, coming from companies like Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Shopify, Tesla, and Meta, that are looking to expand the operational part of our business.

We're still in the first days of building the company, and this is a unique opportunity to be an early employee in a high-growth, high-ambition startup environment. From Day 1, you'll be able to work with an experienced founding team backed by top-tier investors.

You can read more on why we believe you should spend your time working on construction, and learn more about our vision and company.

About you and this role

We are looking for an assembly & prototyping technician to join our team. You'll be part of our machine shop team, and working closely with our hardware and software engineering team. Help us bring our robots to life and join our mission to bring automation to the construction industry to create affordable, beautiful, high-quality housing for everyone.

This role is a generalist technician role in a small startup environment with a lot of variety. You will be responsible for building prototypes and small production series of our construction robot hardware, including our autonomous ground vehicles, construction cranes, supply systems, and end effectors. You will also be helping out with the maintenance of our existing fleet of robots.

On a non-technical level, we are looking for someone who loves nothing more than working in a highly collaborative team to solve complex problems and bring novel inventions to the world. You'd thrive in a fast-paced environment, be excited to continuously learn new skills, and love challenging conventional ideas. After doing an assembly, you actively ask yourself how you could do it 10 times faster if you had to do it over again.

We are unable to support relocation for this role. Applicants must be based in the Netherlands and able to commute onsite to Amsterdam to be considered; we are able to provide visa sponsorship for local candidates.

What you'll be working on

* Fabrication and assembly of R&D prototypes-this could be anything from a new end-effectors we're testing, an autonomous ground vehicle that can traverse rough construction site, or an entire robotic crane.

* Maintaining our current fleet of robots: doing occasional health checks on them and ensuring that they are always in great state and ready to be used on site.

* Help us run our construction robots and build testing rigs in the office, and occasionally join us and the robots on construction sites to help with whatever is needed.

* Help us improve our designs to small series production: planning and organizing a build, feeding back DFM and DFA changes to the engineering team, and assembling the robots.

* Promoting and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized working environment.

What we're looking for

* You must feel comfortable in sequencing and building assemblies without a large amount of instructions and documentation.

* You take an efficient and organized approach to assembly projects.

* Hands on experience assembling parts. We don't expect any complex machining experience, but you should feel comfortable working with metals and metal tools, e.g. an angle grinder.

* Determine with the engineering team what checks are required to ensure the assembly is correct and carry them out.

* High attention to detail. You should be able to do quality spot checks and spot mistakes in your own and your peers' work.

* You understand the importance of following procedures when relevant, e.g. bolt selection and tightening torques.

* Being able to read a bill of materials, organize and collect parts and off the shelf components.

* Strong communication skills. You are able to sit down with an engineer, look at a design together and discuss how to approach a new build while feeding back improvements to them after finishing a project.

Why Monumental?

Joining Monumental means being at the forefront of a movement aimed at making significant strides in the construction industry. Here, your work has the potential to impact not just the company but the future of how we build. If you're driven by innovation, eager to tackle complex challenges, and ready to make a tangible difference, we want to hear from you.

For open applications (where you don't see an exact role match), please reach out to us at: - share with us the most interesting or challenging project you've worked on, why you want to join and your CV or portfolio.

If you don't meet all the qualifications here but are excited about Monumental and feel you'd still be able to help us solve difficult problems, do get in touch. We are open to generalists with a demonstrated ability to focus on outcomes and get things done and are comfortable with you learning things as you go along.

Job Description

Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.

We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world's most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house-from motor coils to AI-reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you'll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern, Prototyping.

This role will support hardware development for September - December 2025. You'll be part of the Prototyping team, responsible for development, assembly, and testing parts used in our humanoid robots. This is a hands-on, in-person role based in Palo Alto. For the right candidate, this internship may lead to a full-time offer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mechanical-engineering focus
    • 3D-print and assemble prototypes
    • Create models in multiple materials
    • Conduct durability testing
  • Shared (mechanical engineering interns & electrical engineering interns)
    • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to integrate new parts and resolve fit-and-function issues
    • Contribute to the design and engineering of the next robot revision - your work is production-critical, not a side project
    • Create and edit CAD models for printing or milling
    • Document print settings, results, and workflows
    • Maintain print lab organization and inventory
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical engineering
  • Basic CAD skills (SolidWorks, Onshape, etc.)
  • Comfortable doing physical work,, setup, assembly, post-processing
  • Able to work on-site in Palo Alto
  • Currently studying engineering or a related field.

Nice to have
  • Worked on robotics, mechatronics, or general hardware projects
If you know how to build and can figure things out quickly, that matters more to us than checking every box.

WHO THRIVES ON THE PROTOTYPING TEAM

The prototyping team moves fast, builds constantly, and figures things out without a playbook. People who do well here usually show these traits:
  • Own It - You take responsibility. If it's broken or missing, fix it.
  • Move Fast - You make smart calls and iterate quickly instead of overanalyzing.
  • Be Resourceful - You figure things out when tools, time, or info are limited.
  • Learn & Improve - You absorb feedback, learn fast, and get better every week.
  • Build trust - You do what you say, communicate clearly, and follow through

Location Policy
We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

We're excited to get to know you and the prospects of having you on board!

Job Description

About AnthropicAnthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.About the role:Anthropic is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Research Prototyping team, a critical function that bridges cutting-edge AI research and transformative product experiences. As the Engineering Manager for Research Prototyping, you'll create an environment where engineers an designers can rapidly experiment with emerging AI capabilities, validate breakthrough ideas, and accelerate the path from research innovation to user impact. You'll lead a team that operates at the frontier of what's possible with AI, building prototypes that push model capabilities to their limits while generating crucial learnings for both research and product teams. Success in this role requires a 0-to-1 mindset, the ability to coach engineers and designers through the idea maze as they explore the properties and potential of large language models, and the ability to balance rapid experimentation with strategic thinking about AI's transformative potential.About Research PrototypingThe Research Prototyping team serves as Anthropic's innovation accelerator, identifying paradigm-shifting AI capabilities and building prototypes that demonstrate their potential. It is the most R&D-org-like of the Product teams, operating with a "fail fast" mentality and accepting high failure rates in exchange for breakthrough discoveries. Prototypes range from internal tools that make researchers more productive to ambitious demos that showcase entirely new AI paradigms. Successful projects may spin out into dedicated product teams or inform critical research directions.Responsibilities:Lead and grow a team of versatile engineers who thrive in 0-to-1 environments and can rapidly prototype across the full stackPartner closely with research teams to identify emerging capabilities with transformative potential and translate them into compelling prototypesCreate a culture that embraces experimental failure as a path to breakthrough success, while maintaining momentum through rapid iteration cyclesDevelop frameworks for evaluating prototype success beyond traditional metrics, focusing on capability breakthroughs and research learningsBuild strong partnerships across Product and Research teams to ensure smooth transitions for successful prototypesChampion lightweight, prototype-first development practices that maximize learning velocityGuide the team in building "living evals" that provide rapid feedback loops between product experiences and model developmentRepresent the voice of ambitious, transformative product possibilities in research planning discussionsFoster an environment where engineers feel empowered to pursue bold ideas and pivot quickly based on learnings - without falling in love with ideas that are no longer yielding learningsYou may be a good fit if you:Have 5+ years of engineering management experience, with significant time leading teams in highly ambiguous, research-oriented environmentsExcel at managing high-variance outcomes and helping teams navigate the emotional rollercoaster of experimental workHave deep technical expertise across full-stack development, ML/AI systems, and emerging technologiesDemonstrate exceptional ability to identify high-potential ideas from a sea of possibilitiesCan context-switch rapidly between multiple experimental projects while maintaining strategic clarityHave experience translating research breakthroughs into user-facing products or demosAre passionate about pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AIHave strong communication skills to articulate the value of failed experiments and successful breakthroughs alikeCare deeply about the societal impacts of advanced AI systemsStrong candidates may also have experience with:Building and leading teams focused on emerging technologies or R&DCreating developer tools, AI agents, or other productivity-enhancing systemsWorking directly with machine learning researchers on productization effortsManaging portfolios of high-risk, high-reward technical projectsBuilding prototyping infrastructure and frameworks that accelerate experimentationLeading through extreme pivots and helping teams maintain morale through failureCreating compelling demos that communicate complex technical capabilitiesWorking with LLMs, multi-agent systems, or other frontier AI technologiesDeadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The expected salary range for this position is:Annual Salary:$405,000-$485,000 USDLogisticsEducation requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. How we're differentWe believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact - advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI - rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.Come work with us!Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
