Responsibilities
Assesses each patient via chart review and consults with surgeon to design and assemble the proper extracorporeal circuit; primes, recirculates, and tests the extracorporeal circuit prior to initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass; initiates, continuously assesses, and manipulates the operation of the heart lung bypass machine to maintain the patient's physiologic parameters within normal limits during cardiopulmonary bypass; administers blood products/drugs/pharmacological agents as required to maintain the patient' s physiological status within normal limit s via heart lung machine directed by surgeon/anesthesia provider; obtains blood specimens for blood gas and anticoagulation analysis and interprets their results; disassembles and cleans the perfusion equipment; directs and/or assists the set-up, troubleshooting, testing and operation of the physiologic monitoring instrumentation; assembles, operates, and maintains other related extracorporeal equipment used in surgery and intensive ca re units (i.e. cell saver, intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices); assists with the care, maintenance and inventory of departmental equipment and supplies; acts as an instructor for all scheduled clinical rotations of students enrolled at the University of South Alabama and other approved academic institutions; orients new personnel as assigned; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to digital, voice and overhead pages; maintains accurate and complete records by completing Cardiopulmonary Bypass record, Auto transfusion record; Balloon Pump record; Surgical Report record, and patient charges; files and maintains reports, database and records; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a science related field or Bachelor's degree in Perfusion, and successful completion from an accredited Perfusion program required. Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required, or attainment within two years of employment. Candidates must demonstrate good interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to interact professionally with surgeons, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members. Job Details:
- This position is responsible for ensuring that all surgical instrument sets and equipment are properly maintained.
- Responsible for tracking lost and broken instrumentation and maintenance of digital records of instrumentation in the Instrument Tracking System software.
- Performs weekly missing instrument audit reports. Ensures that these responsibilities are carried out according to established directions designated in the procedure manual.
- Functions as a team member, supporting department activities, providing for optimal instrument and equipment processing.
- Functions as a patient advocate.
- Responsible for performing delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient.
Skills Required-:
- Advanced to intermediate MRI experience.
- Experience with neuroimaging, body imaging, angiography, and musculoskeletal MRI preferred.
- Skilled in scanning patients with multiple implanted devices.
- Experience in a Level 1 trauma center environment and neuro-oncology functional neurosurgical practice preferred.
- Familiarity with Siemens Aera 1.5T MRI system.
Certifications-:
- ARRT in MRI (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) required.
- ARMRIT in MRI preferred.
Credentialing Requirements:
- COVID-19, booster, and flu vaccines required.
- Medical declination accepted only for booster vaccine.

- Job Type: 13 weeks- local contract or travel contract
- Schedule: Days: 2nd shift: 3:00 PM 11:30 PM, including holiday and weekend rotations. Weekends required. No on-call responsibilities.

Kelly Government Services is a strategic partner in staffing Physicians for the VHA across the United States.
We are seeking experienced Two Board-Certified Hematology-Oncology Physicians to provide comprehensive hematology and oncology services to Veterans at the Providence VA Medical Center in Providence, RI. This is a full-time, on-site position providing expert consultation and treatment to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including comprehensive on-call coverage for after-hours care.
Location Providence VA Medical Center - Providence, Rhode Island
Responsibilities
Clinical Care (90% of time):
- Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in inpatient and outpatient clinic settings with approximately 5 hours of inpatient coverage and 26 hours of bookable clinical time per week
- Evaluate, triage, and prioritize consults from primary care and other services for outpatient hematology-oncology consultations with approximate case load of 2 patients per hour during bookable clinical time
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories, conduct thorough physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and develop treatment plans for hematology and oncology patients
- Coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other personnel in a multidisciplinary healthcare delivery system
- Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions coordinated with next care setting for all hematology-oncology clinical patients
- Establish mechanisms for notification of test results in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients
- Follow all established medication policies and procedures without providing sample medications to patients
Administrative Duties (10% of time):
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and committee participation as required by VA facility Chief of Service or Chief of Staff
- Attend required staff meetings including Medical Service Staff meeting (monthly, 26 hours annually), Tumor Board (weekly, 52 hours annually), Cancer Committee (ad hoc, up to 10 hours annually), and Lung Tumor Board Conference (quarterly, 3 hours annually)
- Complete appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and outcomes of examinations
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned such as peer review and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations
- Follow established patient safety and infection control standards, document patient safety events in medical records, disclose to patients, and submit entries in VA Patient Safety Reporting System within 24 hours
Qualifications
- Medical degree from accredited medical school
- Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine Medical Hematology-Oncology Board (required)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or equivalency
- All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept current
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia
- No history of restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied licenses
- Current DEA certificate
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in skills necessary to fulfill hematology-oncology care requirements
- Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
- Experience in comprehensive hematology and oncology care including diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, and follow-up care
- Knowledge of current hematology-oncology treatment protocols and evidence-based medicine
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities
- Must be eligible for Public Trust government security clearance (US Citizenship required)
On-Call Coverage:
- Provide hematology-oncology on-call services during all hours when facility clinic is closed including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Weeknight On-Call: Monday-Thursday , 5:00 PM - 8:00 AM (208 shifts annually)
- Weekend On-Call: Friday 5:00 PM - Monday 8:00 AM (52 shifts annually)
- Federal Holiday On-Call: 24-hour coverage (12 shifts annually)
- Must be available within 15 minutes by phone for consultations with VA residents and physicians
- Must be available on-site within 60 minutes when required
Schedule Requirements:
Primary Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (40 hours per week per FTE)
On-Call Coverage Schedule: - Weeknight On-Call: Monday-Thursday, 5:00 PM - 8:00 AM - Weekend On-Call: Friday 5:00 PM - Monday 8:00 AM - Federal Holiday On-Call: 24-hour coverage
