Assist With:

· This position is responsible for assisting Project Engineers and Civil Designers in the preparation and coordination of engineering design items. Assists with land development projects by performing civil design calculations and using engineering judgment to transform concept designs into construction drawings and technical specifications as required by assignment.
· Inspects project sites with Project Manager to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards.
· Prepare and revise project schedules under the direction of a Project Manager or Project Engineer.
· Responds to questions from agencies on engineering projects and plans.
· Conducts studies to identify engineering problems and assesses potential project impacts.
· Coordinates project tasks and scheduling with Project Manager.
· Assists the Project Manager or Project Engineer with the permitting of engineering projects.
· Assists in examination of engineering documents for completeness or accuracy.
· Assists in checking designs, details, estimates, plans, and specifications of engineering projects and recommend necessary changes.
· Assists with the creation and submission of technical reports, presentations and exhibits.
· Assists with the preparation of detailed construction drawings.
· Prepare construction cost estimates/quantity takeoffs.
Responsible for:
· Performs and assumes the technical responsibility for coordinating/preparing/reviewing complete phases or components of projects, including engineering reports, calculations, plans and special provisions in accordance with City standards and codes.
· Evaluates need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations.
· Performing site research and preparing due diligence reports for new projects.
· Conduct field visits to understand existing site conditions.
· Utilizes various engineering related computer software including AutoCAD Civil 3D.
· Reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications, plats and other related documents.

Special Skills and/or Abilities: Knowledge of design and visualizations software such as Civil 3D, Hydraflow, and Storm Sewers, Proficiency in site layout, roadway design, grading, hydrology, utility design, erosion control, regulatory approvals, etc

Major Areas of Accountability
- Assist with construction observation of municipal improvement projects and developer-installed public improvement projects as directed for conformance with engineering plans and specifications, and construction and safety standards. Construction observation duties may include record keeping/project documentation, measuring/tracking quantities and interacting with co-workers, the general public, contractors and other public agencies.
- Assist with reviewing and maintaining as-built record plans of municipal improvement projects and developer-installed public improvement projects.
- Assist with designing municipal improvement projects, including the preparation of cost estimates, engineering plans, specifications and design documents, easement acquisition, permitting and surveying.
- Other duties and special projects as apparent or specifically assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering degree program, or will obtain within 6 months.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or will be able to successfully complete within 6 months.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and complete work accurately on a timely basis.
- Ability to provide and communicate technical engineering information effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Valid US driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and various terrains associated with construction projects.
- Previous internship experience, engineering and design software experience (i.e. AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD), construction survey experience (i.e. Trimble) and GIS (ArcGIS) mapping applications experience.
- One to four years of work experience in the civil engineering field.

- Performing structural computations in the design and analysis of concrete, steel or other miscellaneous structures
