Job Description
Our Mental Health Technicians support our high risk mental health patients. Our highest priority for these patients is safety and delivering a therapeutic environment.
Successful candidates will have a passion for working in behavioral health, demonstrating empathy, compassionate caring, and a high level of emotional intelligence, providing one on one support to patients.
This is a PT rotating shift position of 24hrs/week. The rotating shifts are 7a-7p and 7p-7a and include weekday, weekend, overnights, and holidays.
Responsibilities
As a member of an interdisciplinary team provides continuous care and supervision of patients to ensure a safe and secure environment.
* Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists with routine patient care activities including: assisting patient with activities of daily living, obtaining clinical data (vital signs, height and weight, collecting specimens) and performing point of care.
* Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment by keeping the hallways clear of excess equipment, emptying linen bags etc.
* Assists visitors and answer telephones.
* Follows and participates in patient’s plan of care.
* Assists with the management of aggressive patients.
* Assists in monitoring and/or care of patients who require close observation (suicidal/elopement risks, patients in restraints and/or seclusion).
* Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to establish goals and restrictions of privileges based on the patients behavior and level of care.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED required.
* Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in mental health or human services related field preferred.
* Previous experience in healthcare or mental health preferred.
* Excellent communication skills desired with the ability to work collaboratively as member of multi-disciplinary team.
* Complete required Workplace Violence Prevention Training within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities
Manages staff and flow within inpatient care unit, and other areas of psychiatry inclusing ED Zone B and the adolecent unit during evening hours. Provides oversight of direct patient care to support patient and staff needs. Serves as a lead, clinical resource, role model, and extension of management to uphold institutional priorities, policies and practices.
* Assigns staff to patients per current unit workload. Considers pod acuity, staff experience and competency, learning needs and patient acuity/complexity when considering shift assignments.
* Participates in performance management of staff members to include coaching, preparation of performance evaluations, and the performance management process. Initiates disciplinary action as appropriate.
* Addresses conflicts as they may arise. Assists/mediates to maintain smooth operations of the unit. Involves unit leadership or House Supervisor as appropriate.
* Facilitates timely admissions and discharges to optimize clinical capacity.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
* Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. BSN, BA, BS) at time of hire, or degree expected within 36 months of hire.
* 2 years of progressive responsibility within an acute care setting required.
