Reporting to the Financial Accounting Manager, the Financial Accounting Intern is responsible for providing administrative and clerical services in order to ensure effective and efficient operations in the Financial Accounting Department.
**The Financial Accounting Intern will:**
+ Organize, compile, copy, sort, and file records of office activities, business transactions, and other activities.
+ Compute, compare, record, and proofread data and other information, such as records or reports.
+ Maintain and update filing, inventory, mailing, and database systems, either manually or using a computer.
+ Review files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests.
+ Process and prepare documents, such as business or government forms and expense reports.
+ Compile financial records.
+ Perform data entry.
**The ideal candidate will have/be:**
+ Basic understanding of computer systems and programs. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word is a plus.
+ Able to work with other in a team environment.
+ Written and verbal communication skills.
+ Strong attention to detail.
**Education and Experience:**
Intern must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited undergraduate program pursuing a bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or similar degree. Preferably the intern will have completed at least two (2) years of undergraduate study.
**Working Conditions:**
Work performed in an office environment, with frequent sitting for extended periods of time and occasional lifting of 10 pounds independently, and stooping, reaching, and/or bending to perform accounting clerical/filing requirements.

POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:
The Financial Accounting Specialist serves SFI by ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of accounts payable functions including but not limited to reviewing and confirming the accuracy of accounts payable requests, contract payments, and expense reimbursements, ensuring vendors and team members are paid on time, tracking various billing activity, accurate 1099 tax reporting, performing various reconciliations, and providing support to SFI team members and vendors questions following SFI's policies and procedures. Additionally, the position may assist in providing accounting to various SFI related entities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Financial Accounting Specialist is responsible for the following functions:
- Confirm legitimacy of incoming invoices, contract payments and reimbursement requests by contacting appropriate personnel and ensuring payments are made in a timely manner.
- Assist in performing various accounting functions as needed such as match purchase order receipts to invoices, account reconciliations, troubleshoot inventory problems, review prepaid expenses, prepare tax exempt forms, monitor gas cards, create and maintain spreadsheets, and assist with audits, production records or accounts receivable.
- Ensure accurate data entry and allocation of expenses to appropriate cost centers.
- Assist in other administrative duties as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of all SFI information.
- Be a team player to demonstrate teamwork with all team members.
- Adhere to SFI's policies and procedures.
- Maintain strong internal relationships by providing a consistent level of service which is timely, thorough and responsive.

**Job Duties**
+ Participates in the monthly / quarterly / annual financial close and financial reporting activities for the organization.
+ Records journal entries, prepares account reconciliations, and prepares income statement and balance sheet variance analyses.
+ Reviews monthly financial statements with the department and with Controllers at the operating divisions prior to dissemination and facilitates corrective action if necessary.
+ Participates in the production and dissemination of statements.
+ Acts as a liaison between Financial Accounting and various financial and operational departments across the organization.
+ Provides research and education to Departmental Directors/Managers regarding departmental financial transactions.
+ Participates in special financial projects and composes various ad hoc financial reports as required by management.
+ Provides guidance / training / support to less-experienced accounting staff.
+ Assists with the annual external audit.
+ Other related duties as required.

Development and Implementation:

Support and Maintenance:

**Qualifications:**
