**What We're Looking For**
The HNTB Carolinas Office railroad engineering team is seeking to fill an Engineer II position in the Raleigh or Charlotte, NC offices. Our rail engineering team is engaged in the planning, design and construction oversight of freight rail and passenger rail projects for multiple clients including spur tracks, sidings, double track, other capacity improvement projects and passenger stations. Working in a multi-disciplinary environment, this position will have the opportunity to be involved in other types of projects such as roadway projects.
Responsibilities:
* Serves as support to Discipline Task Manager for Track and Civil Design components.
* Responsible for engineering designs on rail projects.
* Locates and understands complex design criteria, standards, and specifications related to track and civil work elements.
* Develops railroad track alignments, profiles and cross sections.
* Undertakes and/or oversees development of civil earthwork cross sections, volumes, and slope refinements.
* Help supervise, schedule and check work of project team members.
* Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
* Develops plans, calculation, quantity estimates and specifications as needed on assigned tasks ensuring items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practices.
* Conducts periodic construction oversight tasks.
* Reviews applications for utility occupancy agreements.
* Develops detailed typical sections.
* Develops special trackwork details.
* May occasionally supervise and schedule work of other team members.
* Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
**What You'll Do:**
+ Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
+ Responsible for preparation and/or modification for select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
+ Develops project quantities and assists with development of cost estimates.
+ Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
+ Able to self-sufficiently complete various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.

• Railroad bridge design and detailing tasks incorporating AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering practices
• Structural analysis and preparation of structural engineering calculations
• Bridge evaluations including inspections and load ratings
• Engineering investigations including feasibility and type studies with cost and risk analysis
• Use of advanced bridge analysis/design software including LEAP Products, MDX, MIDAS, as well as Mathcad and excel spreadsheets
• Preparation of construction plans using Microstation
• Preparation of construction specifications
• Review of shop drawings and contractor Requests for Information
• Construction management and document control for rail bridge construction
• Management of project deadlines for on-time submittals
• Excellent verbal, interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering, required
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering, preferred
• Professional Engineer's License required
• 4-6+ years of experience in bridge design, rehabilitation and construction with a railroad specialization
• Experience with Freight Railroad bridge design
• Strong bridge and retaining wall technical experience with ability to complete projects on time and within budget

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $90,000 - $130,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.

+ Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team
+ Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
+ Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others

+ Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects
+ Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package
+ Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings

+ Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements
+ Perform civil design on a variety of rail/transit projects
+ Preparation of design documents
+ Develop specifications, cost estimates and project schedules
+ Prepare technical reports and analyses
+ Develops estimates for the track engineering budgets
+ Assists in determining schedules to perform track work
+ Coordinates with multiple departments related to a projects scope of work
+ Develop Procurement specifications
+ Perform field track inspections and develop criteria and testing requirements
+ Coordinates and provides technical expertise for mid- large size projects
+ Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for specific area of expertise
+ Reviews and approves track designs prepared by others
+ Oversee and manage work within the ROW for multiple projects
+ Work with other track staff to manage projects on the east coast and around the country
+ Mentor staff
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ BA/BS in Civil or Structural Engineering or related +6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
+ Experience with commuter, shortline, freight, transit, and class-one rail projects
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Professional Engineer (PE), MA License
+ Expertise with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRail/Power Rail, Microstation
+ Knowledge of FRA, DOT, AREMA and local railroad/transit criteria
+ Strong analytical and communication skills
+ Good client relations experience
+ Ability to lead meetings related to track
+ Local to Massachusetts

**Job Summary**
TYLin is seeking a Senior Rail Bridge Engineer to join our growing team. This role will focus on the design and analysis of railway bridge structures for public agencies, railroads, and design-build clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in rail bridge design, a deep understanding of relevant design standards, and the ability to lead projects while mentoring junior engineers. This position may also involve project management responsibilities and client interaction.
**Responsibilities & Qualifications**
**What You'll Do:**
+ Perform structural design and analysis of rail bridges, including steel, concrete, and long-span structures, ensuring compliance with AREMA, AASHTO, and other applicable standards.
+ Conduct seismic analysis, fatigue analysis, and load rating evaluations for rail structures.
+ Provide technical oversight and mentor junior and intermediate engineers in railway bridge design.
+ Manage small- to mid-scale rail bridge projects, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherence.
+ Interface with transportation DOTs, Class I and short-line railroads, and public transportation agencies during project delivery.
+ Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and drawings following TYLin's quality assurance and quality control processes.
+ Support proposal preparation and business development efforts for rail infrastructure projects.
+ Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including track engineers, geotechnical engineers, and construction professionals, to deliver integrated rail solutions.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**What You'll Bring:**
+ Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred; Bachelor's Degree required.
+ Professional Engineer (PE) license in IL (or ability to obtain via reciprocity); SE license is a plus.
+ 10+ years of experience in bridge engineering, with a focus on rail bridges and transit structures.
+ Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, and LARSA.
+ Strong working knowledge of AREMA, and railroad design requirements.
+ Experience working on Class I Railroad or similar public agency projects, with an understanding of permitting, funding, and regulatory requirements.
+ Strong project management and client engagement skills, with experience managing project budgets and schedules.
+ Experience in proposal writing and business development is a plus.
+ Commitment to innovation, integrity, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.
+ Demonstrated experience with new bridge construction and bridge rehabilitation as well as exposure to various structure types.
