Western Nevada Transload ("WNVT") operates a full-service rail facility including switching, transloading, storage of multiple commodities (including liquids, dry bulk and dimensional materials), on site truck scale and other rail infrastructure. Located 30 minutes from Reno, the 224-acresitein Fernley, Nevada, sits along U.S. Highway 50 and has excellent proximity to the Interstate 80 interchange, in both Lyon and Churchill counties. The site is also near mines, agriculture, manufacturing and distribution hubs, and rapidly expanding population centers.

Job Overview:
Western Nevada Transload & Port of Nevada is seeking a dedicated Rail Yard Operator join our team. This role involves transloading operations, equipment handling, and adherence to strict rail safety standards. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, safety-conscious, and eager to work in an outdoor, physically demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform transloading duties, including inspections, loading trucks, railcar unloading, and track clean-up.
  • Operate equipment including, but not limited to: top pick, yard truck(s), railcar mover(s), forklift(s), material mover(s), railcar vibrators, and air lancer.
  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance and inspections, reporting any issues immediately.
  • In-gate / Out-gate for intermodal yard.
  • Ensure compliance with rail safety standards, including FRA, OSHA, and state regulations.
  • Handle materials safely and efficiently to prevent damage to products and delays in unloading.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and office management to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.
  • Participate in safety meetings and required training sessions.
  • Accurately document incidents, equipment malfunctions, and operational delays as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Equipment operation experience preferred but not required (forklifts, material movers, etc.).
  • OSHA and FRA training are a plus but not required-company-provided training available for the right candidate.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong time management, adaptability, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Work Schedule:
  • Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
  • Overtime required as needed.

Performs the necessary functions of operation in order to ensure orders and inventory will be received, picked, packed, shipped and stored accurately. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate Material Handling Equipment to pick, move and put away products as required.
  • MHE Certification on all equipment. (will train and certify)

As our Yard Equipment Operator , you will play a critical role in supporting Landscapers Supply’s ability to serve our customers with high efficiency. 

Your role is to load landscape materials (such as mulch, rock, etc.) into customer vehicles and trailers using loader equipment and by hand.  You will also work with our Drivers to load our delivery trucks. Safety is key in this role working with this equipment around people and vehicles.  

This role is an advanced level position that requires physical outside work as well as some customer contact.  You are assisted at times in the yard by a Yard Attendant.  Often, you are the last person that our customer has contact with, so your friendly interaction with them will be remembered.
 

Responsibilities 

  • Operate a wheel loader and skid steer to load trucks and trailers
  • Operate a forklift to unload supplier deiveries
  • Hand load customer vehicles with landscape materials (straw, bagged mulch, etc.)
  • Cleanup and maintenance in the yard
  • Check in supplier deliveries of bulk landscape materials
  • Assist with moving or loading customer vehicleswith large store products such as grills or mowers
  • Ability to fill propane tanks for customers, if of lawful
  • Assist with special requests from management

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
  • Operate excavators to dig trenches, foundations, and other large-scale earthmoving tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload materials such as soil, rocks, and debris using the excavator bucket.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on the excavator to ensure optimal functioning.
  • Collaborate with site supervisors and other crew members to coordinate excavation activities.
  • Follow site plans, blueprints, and safety guidelines to complete excavation work according to project specifications.
  • Monitor excavation sites for hazards and report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions immediately.
  • Assist in backfilling and grading areas after excavation to prepare for construction or landscaping.
