Your Opportunity
As a Railway Engineer, you will perform a variety of tasks which will include but are not limited to track geometric design and civil/grading design for transit, industrial, freight, and passenger/commuter rail clients. Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform broad, varied, and diverse engineering design tasks on assigned projects under general supervision of the design lead or project manager, including engineering drawings, engineering reports, presentations, and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies.
- Engage in the development of design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats, and prepare and revise documentation including site plans, utility plan/profiles, grading plans, cross sections, diagrams, and submittal reviews as required.
- Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope including cost estimates, budget, staffing and schedules.
- Assist the senior project transportation engineer in preparing the conceptual, preliminary, and final design and developing construction specifications.
- Attend meetings with clients, contractors, review agency personnel, and governing entities.
- Coordinate technical activities and designs with personnel in other disciplines and departments and serve as a liaison between senior engineers and the design team.
- Prepare engineering feasibility studies by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data.
- Confirm adherence to construction specifications during each phase of a project. Monitor project progress, inspect construction sites, and verify calculations and placements. "

- Ability to perform field activities safely
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) license required and ability to be licensed in other states as needed
- Demonstrated experience in MicroStation V8i, InRoads, and OpenRail
- Thorough knowledge of AREMA, Class I Railroad, and agency design standards
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required

Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Successful multidisciplinary team/task management or design lead experience.
+ Proficient in 3D and 4D Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software.
+ Strong understanding of engineering design principles.
+ Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
+ Excellent technical writing with the ability to develop work plans and document technical discussions.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
+ Familiar with industry design standards such as the person and NACTO.
Work Environment
This role is based in the Chicago office located on South Wacker, with a team of about 25 individuals in the transportation department. The position involves working with 36 project teams on a wide variety of major infrastructure projects, with a focus on phase 2 design.
