As a Railway Engineer, you will perform a variety of tasks which will include but are not limited to track geometric design and civil/grading design for transit, industrial, freight, and passenger/commuter rail clients. Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform broad, varied, and diverse engineering design tasks on assigned projects under general supervision of the design lead or project manager, including engineering drawings, engineering reports, presentations, and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies.
- Engage in the development of design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats, and prepare and revise documentation including site plans, utility plan/profiles, grading plans, cross sections, diagrams, and submittal reviews as required.
- Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope including cost estimates, budget, staffing and schedules.
- Assist the senior project transportation engineer in preparing the conceptual, preliminary, and final design and developing construction specifications.
- Attend meetings with clients, contractors, review agency personnel, and governing entities.
- Coordinate technical activities and designs with personnel in other disciplines and departments and serve as a liaison between senior engineers and the design team.
- Prepare engineering feasibility studies by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data.
- Confirm adherence to construction specifications during each phase of a project. Monitor project progress, inspect construction sites, and verify calculations and placements. "

**Pay Transparency:** In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. In this role, you will be an integral part of AZTEC’s Rail and Transit group by working on high-profile projects including high-speed rail, commuter rail, metro, light rail, streetcar, and bus rapid transit throughout North America and mainly California.
Job Description:
The Project Engineer will be involved with the production and coordination of several projects concurrently. This position performs a full range of professional railway engineering assignments in a full-functioning capacity. Considerable independent judgment is required to carry out assignments that have an impact on services or programs. Guidelines may be available to complete the project, but each project will require adaptation or interpretation of the guidelines to determine appropriate courses of action. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, technically proficient, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and is team oriented. The ideal candidate is also willing to travel periodically.
Duties:
- Prepare railway and transit designs including development of plans and specifications
- Responsible for the completion of high-quality rail and transit engineering projects on budget and schedule with a high level of customer satisfaction
- Ensure that all design documents, reports, inspections, and information required to serve the client are properly prepared and reported
- Ensure client schedules are met
- Support the Senior Project Managers through the entire project’s development to complete documents on schedule

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Minimum bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of experience on Rail and Transit projects and preferred with experience with California transportation/transit agencies, including LA Metro, Metrolink, RCTC, OCTA, SANBAG, and Amtrak as well as Class I railroads operating in the region
- California P.E. certification or able to get California PE within 6 months of hire
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
- Primavera and Project Wise software is a plus
- Local experience in California is highly preferred

The candidate shall have experience with conducting Risk Assessments using industry standard Risk frameworks like NIST CSF, IEC 62443 3-2, etc. with a responsibility as needed per the project context.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cybersecurity context, and Cybersecurity Risk Analysis
- Cybersecurity Architecture definition and requirement allocation
- Cascading of requirement to suppliers, identifying Third Parties Risks

Have a working knowledge of conducting Risk Assessment, using the tools like Fence or equivalent.

- Manage project production, changes, client relations, and financial management of various projects to ensure quality, client satisfaction, and profitability of all projects and tasks.
- Provide industry guidance in chosen technical areas by participating in presentations to industry, heading industry committees, and/or participating in standards development efforts.
- Assist in pursuits, client relationship building efforts, building the technical practice, and recruiting of staff in rail and rail systems areas.
You bring to the role:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Professional engineering license (highly preferred)
- 20 years of experience with at least 10 of these years in positions with engineering management responsibilities.
- Full knowledge of US (FTA & FRA), CENELEC, and ISO rail delivery standards and practices with ability to demonstrate using each on past projects.
- Experience delivering both brown and green field rail programs over $500M in capital value with full lifecycle responsibility in a management role

What You'll Do:

Coordinates design, development and/or assists in providing technical direction to the scope of projects; provides senior-level technical expertise on rail transit projects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering designs, and preparation of contracts for construction.

Responsible for the design and calculation work for one or more of the following specialty areas: track design, signal systems, communication systems, OSC, traction power systems.

Completes a variety of rail engineering project elements such as bid documents including proposals and estimations, reports, designs, specifications and plans.

Oversees the development of conceptual and final design-level track alignment plans, typical sections, cross sections, track charts, track details and specifications.

Provides technical guidance to earlier career or less experienced rail staff, may oversee work and direct tasks.
