Essential Functions

Conduct initial brief assessments; introduce and connect patients to recovery programs and services with supervision

Assist with the facilitation of appointments at outpatient treatment clinics including Carle Addiction Recovery Center (CARC) and external agencies with the community.

Assist with access to other services such as financial counseling, primary care, mental health services, social services, and residential treatment facilities.

Assist with navigating barriers to patients obtaining substance use treatment.

Establish professional relationships with patients and communicate with them to help navigate obstacles to follow up treatment, and provide encouragement.

Department Specific Job Function

With guidance from supervisor, provide ongoing recovery support service to ensure patient arrives and is engaged by intake staff, and ensure that patient remains engaged in treatment overtime - helping the patient navigate stages of change and practical considerations.

Respond to calls or messages directly from patients and providers, as appropriate.

Use motivational interviewing techniques to communicate with patients in a respectful, culturally appropriate, non-judgmental manner.

Maintain up-to-date information about the effects of various substances, withdrawal symptoms, and treatment options in order to effectively educate and counsel patients.

Provide education/information to patients, families and other interested parties on addiction, signs of overdose, and administration of naloxone products

Responsibilities The New Choice Center for Addiction Recovery is a 28-day, intensive, individualized hospital program for addiction treatment and detoxification. Medical detoxification is supervised by our professional staff and to help manage the acute physical symptoms of substance withdrawal in a secure environment. Participants will also take part in individual sessions and family sessions with case management, as well as direct consultations with our medical team of addiction specialists. JOB SUMMARY: Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Assists in managing unit under the leadership of the Program Coordinator and Director of Social Services. Implements programming for individuals and groups of patients. Acts as role model (including therapeutic use of authority, confrontation, limit setting and provision of emotional support). Also responsible for all appropriate documentation for New Choice program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and provides assigned patient care with the general policies, philosophy and objectives of the New Choice Department and the hospital.
• Implements interventions appropriate to the developmental needs of the patient in accordance with the treatment plan demonstrating sound clinical and professional judgment and competency.
• Monitors unit milieu and maintains a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, family members and staff.
• Accurately and thoroughly documents interventions using goals developed in the plan of care, master treatment plan and treatment plan revisions.
• Demonstrates knowledge of various substance abuse and mental health commitments and their effect on patient treatment.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the 12-Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
• Conducts and documents observations on all patients every 30 minutes (required by all shifts).

CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency is looking for a full-time Peer Recovery Specialist. The Peer Recovery Specialist works directly with the Center Manager and in collaboration with Wellness Mentors and members to plan and implement the Wellness Center operations. This position also works to develop community resources and partnerships to meet the needs of the community and members. This position will travel between the Neptune, New Brunswick and Somerville centers.

MUST have their Peer Certification.
