The PositionThe most senior level in the Recreation Leader job family. Positions generally require specialist knowledge for large high-profile events and/ or programs. Incumbents work independently, with little supervision. Assignments are complex in nature and require the proven ability to coordinate events or programs associated with specific areas of responsibility.This opening will provide oversight of kitchen operations as part of the Senior Nutrition Program at the Carlsbad Senior Center. Position Summary:
The Activity Leaders are responsible for helping support three of the five major events for J Explorers, a program for PreK-2nd grade dads and their kids. This includes Late Night on October 26, March Maccabiah Madness on March 23, and the Overnight Retreat on May 3-4. Duties include leading pre-planned activities for families, assisting with food prep, maintaining the safety of all participants, and helping maintain the flow of activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as a representative of the SJCC; Present with professionalism, reliability, and clear understanding of the program and expectations
- Assist with activity set up and tear down
- Lead activities and prioritize participant safety
- Be present for all program days: October 26 from 4:00-8:30pm, March 23 from 1:30-4:30pm, and an overnight retreat from May 3 at 11am to May 4 at noon
- Communicate with the Youth Sports + Recreation Manager about any concerns, issues, or scheduling conflicts
- Be consistent and present for every event
- Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings
- Other duties as assigned
- Position pays $17.50 to $18.00 per hour depending on experience
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience:
Experience working with kids preferred but not required. Experience playing or leading sports is preferred.
Computer Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively over email and in person to parents, participants, and the Youth Sports + Recreation Manager. Ability to write incident reports in the case of an injury.
Math Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:

- Minimum of two years' experience in a social, recreational or educational program within the past five years, one year which was full time working in a health care setting; OR have completed at least 36 hours of training in a course designed for activity leadership from an accredited college; OR be an occupational therapist, art therapist, music therapist, dance therapist, recreation therapist, occupational therapy assistant or a qualified social worker
- One-year experience working with the elderly or frail population required.
