Job Responsibilities

**Sports Official/Scorekeeper - Racine, Wisconsin**
**Seasonal, up to 6 games per week**
HealthFitness is looking for Sports Officials and Scorekeepers to join the fitness team at our corporate client site located in Racine, WI. In this position, you will officiate recreational Basketball and/or Volleyball leagues on a seasonal basis, refereeing two consecutive games up to 3 nights per week.
Responsible for officiating recreational leagues on a seasonal basis.
**Key Accountabilities**
+ Officiate games and instruct players on the rules of the game as necessary.
+ Referee two consecutive one hour games up to 3 nights per week.
+ Reports any problems with games and/or players to the site Management.
+ Officiate the recreational games while keeping a professional playing atmosphere.
+ Be punctual and professional in the fulfillment of the responsibilities.
+ Exercise authority in an impartial, firm, and controlled manner.
+ Dress neatly and appropriately for each shift.
+ Discipline participants utilizing facility agreed on standards to address disruptive or unsafe behavior.
+ Other duties as needed/assigned.
**Minimum Requirements**
+ Must be at least 18 years of age.
+ Strong verbal communication skills with both children and adults.
+ Knowledge of standard rules of play of the game being played.
+ Active listening skills and ability to relate to and provide excellent customer service to participants and spectators.
+ Ability to work independently, problem solve, and make decisions with limited supervision.
+ Strong attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.
+ Excellent customer service skills.
+ Ability make quick decisions, possess mature judgment, and sound decision-making.
+ CPR/AED/first aid certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross preferred.
+ Professional, reliable, and people friendly.

KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of city and department rules and regulations; knowledge of specific sports program rules and interpretations. Must maintain current certifications or required trainings in order to officiate.
SKILL: Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
ABILITY: Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; control large groups of people; follow written and verbal instructions; remain current rules of specific sports; communicate effectively to the participants; to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken; to work with little or no supervision, as necessary; analyze and assess facility, equipment and weather safety hazards; write incident and accident reports, as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public; pass basic sports understanding test; successfully pass police check for offenses that would prohibit working with kids or adults.
TRAINING: Specialty certifications or trainings required.
EXPERIENCE: Some prior working experience, preferably 2 years and increased level of competitiveness, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence of required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

- Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepare lesson plans, organize relative equipment; may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction.
- Attends scheduled meeting as required; makes supervisor aware of any customer, equipment, or facility needs.
- Provides direct supervision of support staff, ensuring that the goals of objectives of class are met.
- Performs related duties as required.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Leader; officiates sports and events for leagues and tournament play. Responsible for site set up and take down, reporting timely and accurate records of the game, enforcing rules and regulations, and ensuring a safe environment for players, refs, and spectators. Officials and Scorekeepers must understand the basic rules of play for applicable sports they are working and must be able to make fair and unbiased judgement through play.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Calling games with honesty and integrity by maintaining accurate and timely tracking of points, fouls, and the time clock.
- Understands and enforces rules and regulations.
- Ensures sportsmanlike conduct and a safe environment for players, refs, and spectators. This may include diffusing intense situations with coaches, enforcing consequences of technical fouls and/or ejections.
- Maintains a professional demeanor at all times and makes an effort to establish a positive rapport with participants, spectators, and other fellow staff.
- Works as a team with other referees, Facility Supervisor, and Program Coordinator to carry out program goals.
- Attend required training.
- Provides basic 1st aid (if necessary)
- Communicates with the Facility Supervisors/Program Coordinator if there are any questions, problems, or issues that arise.
- Must be at least 14 years of age.
- Experience playing or basic knowledge of various sports rules, preferred but not required.
- Training will be provided to those without experience.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and/or walk for up to 60 min at time, sit, talk, hear, read, and write. May periodically need to reach, stoop, crouch, or kneel. Employee may be asked to lift/carry and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Sports Official wage: $16 - $2 per game (dependent on sport and game level).
- Scorekeeping wage: 15
