The Doe Run Company is seeking a Refinery Operator to form and cast lead, make oxide, and move finished product to meet customer specifications. This position is located at The Buick Resource Recycling Facility in Boss, MO.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Background in industrial operations or similar work experience, preferred. If no diploma, at least one year of industrial work experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Skilled in the use of casting equipment preferred.
- Ability to monitor computer screens and operate controls.
Responsibilities:
- Cast lead as part of a crew by running pig machine, ton caster, and billet machine.
- Pour counterweights, skim lead products, and hook up lead pumps.
- Operate forklift, bander, small crane and other equipment as needed to cast and move lead product.
- Operate oxide machine to create lead oxide, includes weighing and changing bags.
- Perform minor maintenance on machinery and maintain a clean work area.
- Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.

Work Environment Physical and Lifting:
- Regularly required to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator, work near moving mechanical parts, and be exposed to extreme heat (non-weather); Regularly exposed to wet, humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions, and vibration. Regularly exposed to moderate noise levels. Occasionally, work is performed in confined spaces. Rarely work at heights of 4' or more with fall protection.
- Regularly requires standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms, repetitive movement, and moving up and down from/to a sitting position on the floor. Regularly requires grasping, pushing, driving, stooping, kneeling, crouching.; occasionally requires sitting, talking, hearing, and feeling attributes of objects. This job is primarily responsible for the safe operation of refinery equipment, controlling equipment systems that process raw materials (e.g. soybeans) into specified products. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitoring pressure and flow, reading gauges and adjustment valves.
In this job, you will:
- Fully participate in the company Safety, Food Safety, and Quality programs and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
- Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); including wearing appropriate PPE for task being performed.
- Complete daily walk-throughs to check equipment and levels; monitor and document equipment readings.
- Operate production equipment and watch process for leaks or other problems; communicate process and equipment deficiencies with other operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisors.
- Monitor process indicators, instruments, gauges, and meters to detect and report any possible problems.
- Start pumps and open valves or use automated equipment to regulate the flow of oil in pipelines and into and out of tanks; monitor the amount of oil in storage tanks, and to verify that activities and operations are safe, efficient, and in compliance with regulations.
- Read automatic gauges at specified intervals to determine the flow rate of oil into or from tanks, and the amount of oil in tanks.
- Operate control panels to coordinate and regulate process variables such as temperature and pressure, and to direct product flow rate, according to process schedules.
- Signal other workers by telephone or radio to operate pumps, open and close valves, and check temperatures.
- Plan movement of products through lines to processing, storage, and shipping units, using knowledge of system interconnections and capacities; verify that incoming and outgoing products are moving through the correct meters, and that meters are working properly.
- Read, compile data and analyze specifications, instrument readings, schedules, logs, pull samples, test results, and laboratory recommendations to determine how to set equipment controls to produce the required qualities and quantities of products.
- Process paperwork per department procedures.
- Maintain and repair equipment, or report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors so that repairs can be scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned by management; including assisting other operators as needed, wiping up oil spills, cleaning magnets as scheduled, working in any/all parts of the plant assisting with operations or maintenance, sanitation and housekeeping duties area.

General Maintenance Details
Essential Job Duties:
- Performs repair and preventative maintenance of all buildings and support equipment, including but not limited to: HVAC systems, boilers, water heaters, water softeners, refrigerators, ice-makers.
- Performs repair and replacement of plumbing fixtures, sinks, toilets, water supply, and drains.
- Performs electrical repair and replacement of switches, receptacles, light fixtures, bulbs, circuit breakers, fuses.

Responsibilities:
- Optimize and troubleshoot complex oil & gas refining processes.
- Develop PFDs, P&IDs, and perform process simulations.
- Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects and modifications.
- Specify and select process equipment (reactors, columns, heat exchangers, pumps).
- Lead and participate in process safety reviews (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA).
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, debottlenecking, and cost reduction.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operations and maintenance teams.
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies in refining.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in process engineering within the oil & gas refining sector.
- In-depth knowledge of various refining processes and unit operations.
- Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
- Experience with process safety management (PSM) and risk assessment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective remote collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct process design and simulation studies for refinery unit upgrades, debottlenecking, and new installations using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
- Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and other engineering documentation.
- Perform mass and energy balance calculations, equipment sizing, and process control strategy development.
- Identify operational challenges and develop solutions to improve process efficiency, product yield, and energy consumption.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and company standards.
- Lead process hazard analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies to identify and mitigate risks.
- Provide technical support to plant operations and maintenance teams, troubleshooting process issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Evaluate new technologies and methodologies for potential implementation in refining operations.
- Develop operational guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project management, operations, and R&D.
A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field is required, with a Master's degree being a strong asset. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in process engineering within the oil and gas refining industry is essential. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are paramount. Experience with process simulation software and a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects in a remote setting are required. This role demands a proactive approach and the ability to influence stakeholders.
