What will your job look like?
The Director, Business Development primary responsibility is to grow the company’s revenue through the acquisition of new clients. The main responsibility for this position will be to generate growth for the Foundation by proactively selling our products and services and helping to establish new individual charitable funds. This Director will serve as a subject matter expert on the Foundation’s charitable giving products and will work to inform prospects in the Louisville area about how we can help them with their philanthropy and the benefits of having a fund with the Foundation. Specifically, this Director will develop outreach efforts and sales tactics targeting charitably inclined individuals and organizations that would benefit from our products and services, such as business owners, high-net worth individuals, family foundations, corporations, and members of professional associations, and work with prospects to create the fund that best meets their charitable goals. This Director will cultivate relationships with these prospective fundholders, with the goal of broadening the Foundation’s reach and increasing the number of new funds we establish. This role is outward facing and will include a significant amount of time networking, attending events (including events outside of normal business hours), organizing internal events for the Foundation, and leading presentations and/or educational sessions about the Foundation’s products, gift planning tools, and donor services.
This individual will work closely with the Foundation’s Director of Gift Planning to coordinate outreach and sales efforts and establish new funds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement outreach efforts and sales tactics that target prospective fundholders and that help them understand the benefits of having a fund with the Foundation.
- Identify new prospect groups and referral sources for the Foundation and then develop and implement outreach efforts to help those new groups become aware of the Foundation’s products and services.
- Make presentations to prospect groups on the benefits of using the Community Foundation of Louisville to accomplish charitable objectives.
- Respond to inquiries about the Foundation’s services and products, work with individuals to establish new funds, and draft governing documents as part of the new fund creation process.
- Maintain prospective fundholder information in the Foundation’s computer database and maintain a client relationship management (CRM) system to track activity and progress.
- Maintain the Foundation’s commitment to providing the highest level of customer service to its referral sources, fundholders, and other constituents.
- Participate in local and regional membership organizations that may include prospects and/or referral sources, such as professional associations, fundraising organizations, chambers of commerce, etc.
- Other assignments and special projects as assigned by the Chief Philanthropy Officer.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to be an active listener, gain trust, and form genuine connections with constituents, prospects, and donors.

This Director will serve as a subject matter expert on the Foundation’s charitable giving products and will work to inform prospects in the Louisville area about how we can help them with their philanthropy and the benefits of having a fund with the Foundation. Specifically, this Director will develop outreach efforts and sales tactics targeting charitably inclined individuals and organizations that would benefit from our products and services, such as business owners, high-net worth individuals, family foundations, corporations, and members of professional associations, and work with prospects to create the fund that best meets their charitable goals. This Director will cultivate relationships with these prospective fundholders, with the goal of broadening the Foundation’s reach and increasing the number of new funds we establish. This role is outward facing and will include a significant amount of time networking, attending events (including events outside of normal business hours), organizing internal events for the Foundation, and leading presentations and/or educational sessions about the Foundation’s products, gift planning tools, and donor services.
This individual will work closely with the Foundation’s Director of Gift Planning to coordinate outreach and sales efforts and establish new funds.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and implement outreach efforts and sales tactics that target prospective fundholders and that help them understand the benefits of having a fund with the Foundation.
- Identify new prospect groups and referral sources for the Foundation and then develop and implement outreach efforts to help those new groups become aware of the Foundation’s products and services.
- Make presentations to prospect groups on the benefits of using the Community Foundation of Louisville to accomplish charitable objectives.
- Respond to inquiries about the Foundation’s services and products, work with individuals to establish new funds, and draft governing documents as part of the new fund creation process.
- Maintain prospective fundholder information in the Foundation’s computer database and maintain a client relationship management (CRM) system to track activity and progress.
- Maintain the Foundation’s commitment to providing the highest level of customer service to its referral sources, fundholders, and other constituents.
- Participate in local and regional membership organizations that may include prospects and/or referral sources, such as professional associations, fundraising organizations, chambers of commerce, etc.
- Other assignments and special projects as assigned by the Chief Philanthropy Officer.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to be an active listener, gain trust, and form genuine connections with constituents, prospects, and donors.
- Self-motivated, high-energy, and a “people person,” who loves meeting with and interacting with new potential customers and who is excited to sell Foundation products and services proactively.
- Familiarity with charitable giving strategies and techniques, including the tax laws relevant to charitable giving and the benefits of having a donor advised fund.
- Understanding of and connection with Louisville’s existing philanthropic individuals and sector.
- A high level of confidence and comfort in making presentations in front of both large and small group audiences, including experience and proficiency with PowerPoint.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to exercise good judgment and be a team player is essential, including having a flexible and collaborative work style.
- A commitment to the highest level of customer service is required.
- A passion for philanthropy and our local community.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Additional degree or relevant certificate such as a Masters, JD, Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) preferred.
- At least five years of experience in development/fundraising, gift planning, sales, marketing, customer service, wealth planning and/or tax and estates required.
- Demonstrated track record managing a multitude of complex tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Committed to upholding confidentiality, discretion, tact, and integrity.
- Demonstrated experience and comfort working with high net-worth individuals and families.
- Professional in manner, appearance, and communications.
- A commitment to the mission and values of the Foundation.

This position may require the ability to lift objects of at least 15 pounds in weight. Job duties require approximately 50% sitting/typing and 50% moving around. Physical requirements will vary depending upon the specific duties to be accomplished. In addition, it is a requirement of this position that the successful candidate be able to maintain a physical presence in the Louisville headquarters offices regularly and consistently and for the full regular working week. Access to and ability to operate a vehicle is required for work-related travel. Attendance may be required at special events during normal working hours or outside the normal work week.
CompensationThe position is a professional, full-time, exempt staff assignment, and will be eligible to participate in the Foundation’s Employee Health and Benefits Plan as set forth in the Foundation’s personnel policies. Compensation will be set according to the Foundation’s approved compensation policy.
