**Job Summary**
Contributes to the care and safety of psychiatric patients under the direction and control of the psychiatric staff and patient orders. Monitors the safety and whereabouts of all residents in the facility. Observes and reports patient behaviors to clinical staff. Directly interacts with patients and is available for patient support. Delivers and documents specific rehabilitative services to adult patients with mental illness. Implements rehabilitation interventions under the direction of licensed clinical staff. Implements independent living skills training with patients. Provides opportunities for social and interpersonal skills development. Ensures that patient chores and/or daily tasks are complete. May provide transportation for patients, as needed. Under direction, participates in the admission process for patients and ensures that rooms are prepped at time of discharge for the next admission. Contributes to the overall cleanliness and appearance of the facility. Depending on setting, may be responsible for medication distribution.
Interventions that are in the treatment plan but outside the scope of practice for this role must be implemented by appropriately licensed clinical staff. Interventions outside the scope of the treatment plan require approval from the leadership team.
**Qualifications**
Must meet state-specific requirements. Per Minnesota Statute, must hold a High School Diploma or GED and meet one of the following criteria:
-Agreed to work exclusively overnight shifts; or
-Completed 2,000 hours of work experience providing health and human services to individuals; or
-Completed three years of personal life experience with mental illness within the previous 10 years; or
-Completed three years of personal life experience as the primary caregiver to an adult with a mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability; or
-Holds an Associate of Arts degree; or
-Completed 15 semester or 23 quarter hours post-secondary education in behavioral science or related field; or
-Holds an unencumbered registered nurse license.
Previous experience in providing mental health services to adults is preferred. Good written and verbal communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in an effective and efficient manner. Computer skills must be sufficient enough to be able to document information within an electronic medical record.
A valid driver's license may be required, depending on department/facility.

Job Description
The **Behavioral Rehabilitation Assistant I** will provide direct care and one-to-one supervision of patients admitted to the inpatient unit, following department guidelines and written treatment protocols.
**Responsibilities**
1. Provide direct patient care as assigned, including the review and implementation of behavior management protocols and accurate collection of data on specified behavior(s).
2. Provide remote monitoring (i.e. tele-sitting) as assigned (typically 1-3 patients at a time), including review of patient protocol and accurate collection of data on specified behavior(s).
3. Assist with implementation of the patient's daily schedule of therapeutic activities with attention to patient safety and level of adaptive skills.
4. Intervene as needed according to behavioral training and protocols to maintain safety of patients and/or others. Use safe handling and physical management procedures.
5. Assist in the implementation of protocols following instruction as incorporated into ambulation, feeding, positioning, toileting, splinting, etc.
6. Provide assistance and/or 1:1 interaction with the patient upon request from interdisciplinary team members.
7. Assist in the assessment of adaptive, leisure, and self-help skills; potential reinforcers; and problem behaviors.
8. Assist in the implementation of skill training programs incorporated into the patient's daily schedule of activities.
9. Review and implement behavior management protocols on a daily basis.
10. Provide daily record of patient care activities and collect accurate data on specified behavior(s).
**Qualifications**
**EDUCATION:**
+ High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
**EXPERIENCE:**
+ Minimum six months ofexperience working in a multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary treatment setting required, to include experience implementing treatment programs with children and/or adolescents with medical and/or mental health conditions, is preferred.
