**Job Summary**
Contributes to the care and safety of psychiatric patients under the direction and control of the psychiatric staff and patient orders. Monitors the safety and whereabouts of all residents in the facility. Observes and reports patient behaviors to clinical staff. Directly interacts with patients and is available for patient support. Delivers and documents specific rehabilitative services to adult patients with mental illness. Implements rehabilitation interventions under the direction of licensed clinical staff. Implements independent living skills training with patients. Provides opportunities for social and interpersonal skills development. Ensures that patient chores and/or daily tasks are complete. May provide transportation for patients, as needed. Under direction, participates in the admission process for patients and ensures that rooms are prepped at time of discharge for the next admission. Contributes to the overall cleanliness and appearance of the facility. Depending on setting, may be responsible for medication distribution.
Interventions that are in the treatment plan but outside the scope of practice for this role must be implemented by appropriately licensed clinical staff. Interventions outside the scope of the treatment plan require approval from the leadership team.
**Qualifications**
Must meet state-specific requirements. Per Minnesota Statute, must hold a High School Diploma or GED and meet one of the following criteria:
-Agreed to work exclusively overnight shifts; or
-Completed 2,000 hours of work experience providing health and human services to individuals; or
-Completed three years of personal life experience with mental illness within the previous 10 years; or
-Completed three years of personal life experience as the primary caregiver to an adult with a mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability; or
-Holds an Associate of Arts degree; or
-Completed 15 semester or 23 quarter hours post-secondary education in behavioral science or related field; or
-Holds an unencumbered registered nurse license.
Previous experience in providing mental health services to adults is preferred. Good written and verbal communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in an effective and efficient manner. Computer skills must be sufficient enough to be able to document information within an electronic medical record.
A valid driver's license may be required, depending on department/facility.

1. Assumes responsibility for the efficient and profitable management of rehabilitation services in assigned site(s) of service.
2. Provides direct patient care.
3. Assists therapy staff in identifying and removing barriers to treatment and providing clinical education to meet the needs of the patient.
4. Reviews monthly department and individual therapist outcomes and supports staff in identifying strategies to improve outcomes as needed.
5. Takes responsibility for the development and support of all staff in their Area to include rounding, second-tier rounding, coaching and mentoring.
6. Assists Clinical Operations Area Director in the timely completion of the annual merit review for therapy staff.
7. Assists Clinical Operations Area Director in the hiring of therapy staff.
8. Participates in and coordinates the timely completion of the annual merit review for therapy staff.
9. Assumes responsibility for hiring therapy staff (in conjunction with the Clinical Operations Area Director).
10. Assumes responsibility for daily staffing and utilization with input from treating therapists, consideration of clinical requirements, and recommendations from the Clinical Director.
11. Administers financial controls of revenue and expenses.
12. Assumes responsibility for facility reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
13. Assists Clinical Operations Area Director in annual budget preparation.
14. Assumes responsibility for meeting annual budget goals as set by the Clinical Operations Area Director.
15. Supports the delivery of the highest standard of rehabilitation services through appropriate utilization of resources, the promotion of clinical proms, and staff development in collaboration with licensed therapists, the Clinical Operations Area Director, and the Clinical Director.
16. Promotes all Powerback Rehabilitation products and services whenever possible.
17. Assists Clinical Operations Area Director in identifying and securing new contracts.
18. Develops and maintains relationship with the facility management team and staff as a representative of Powerback Rehabilitation.
19. Completes monthly reports and formally reviews them with the facility administration.
20. Ensures that the clinical management of the rehabilitation department, including oversight related to case management, quality improvement, care planning, clinical utilization, and patient identification is overseen by a licensed therapist.
21. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications:
1. Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program according to AOTA & ACOTE standards.
2. Initial certification obtained from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
3. They must be licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required in the state of practice.
4. A bachelor's degree is preferred.
5. Description
The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA), under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist and within determined levels of competency, assists with the evaluation and treatment of performance deficits in daily living or work activities, self-care tasks, and leisure activities due to illness, injuries, and disabilities. The COTA assists with occupational therapy programs in hospital, outpatient, educational, and/or community settings to facilitate performance development and independence in activities in a variety of age groups to include: infant (birth to 1 year), Pediatric (1year to 12 years), Adolescence (13-17 years, Adult (18-64 years), and Geriatric (65 years and above).
RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
- Patient and family education/training, in addition to counseling individuals and families on ways to cope with functional impairments and disabilities.
- Provides rehabilitative services to persons with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments under the direction of a licensed occupational therapist.
- Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, giving normal growth and development information, and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
- Helps develop and implement purposeful goals with supervising occupational therapist.
- Helps clients improve their quality of life by helping them compensate for limitations by using therapeutic and self-care activities designed to improve function, such as, helping injured workers improve their motor skills and re-enter the labor force, and teaching persons with learning disabilities to prepare meals or to use public transportation and increase their independence.
- Observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and reports verbally or in writing to the occupational therapist.
- Maintains current state licensure by completing licensing board and state requirements.
- Contributes to an occupational therapist's effectiveness by identifying patient care issues and administering treatment programs for patients.
- Comply with federal and state occupational therapy regulations.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
- Demonstrate understanding of the obligation to preserve the confidentiality of customer and staff health and financial information and circumstances.
- Takes responsibility for care given to patient by support staff, which includes orienting, instructing, and directing work activities of students and techs.
- Completing administrative tasks including documenting billing information and keeping timely and accurate records of daily notes, treatment progress and any treatment plan notes as required by law and hospital policy and procedures.
- Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by adhering to policy positions concerning federal, state, and local regulations and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JACHO) standards.
- Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
- Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
- Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.
- Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
- This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive/email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
Analytical skills for selecting the best diagnostic tools and analyzing results to identify an accurate diagnosis while developing an effective treatment plan; Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents; Communication skills for communicating diagnoses, test results, and available treatments in terms that clients and their families can understand; Compassion when working with individuals frustrated by the difficulties they are experiencing; Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; Critical thinking skills for adjusting treatment plans as required and identifying alternative ways to help; Attention to detail for maintaining notes on treatment and progress; Listening skills for listening to concerns and symptoms of clients so they can decide the most appropriate course of treatment; Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques; Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program; at least one (1) year COTA experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Current Oklahoma State licensure. American Heart Association BLS; May have up to 30 days from date of hire or transfer to obtain. For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
