The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice is currently seeking a professional and dynamic Therapist to: Provide evidence-based mental health, substance use, sex offender, and aggression management treatment services to residents, in order to promote their well-being and rehabilitation as well as reduce the likelihood of recidivism. A significant focus of this position is to provide direct clinical services to youth requiring individual, group, and family psychotherapies.
Additionally, the Therapist is expected to work with multiple disciplines to establish and maintain a therapeutic milieu for residents. This position is required to work primarily in-person with committed residents, ages 14 to 20 years old, at the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center. Work hours will consist of at least one late evening per week.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge in providing evidence based treatment practices / psychotherapy to adolescents, individuals, families and groups; Skilled in working within a multidisciplinary treatment team, with effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently.
• For sex offender treatment: Working knowledge of sex offender treatment and risk assessment.
• For substance abuse treatment: Working knowledge of substance abuse treatment.
Additional Considerations
Prefer licensure in given discipline such as LCSW or LPC.

Main Purpose of Job
This is a full performance level position and the main purpose will be to provide occupational therapy assessment and treatment recommendations to referred patients within the hospital with major responsibility to the Tawes B and Dayhoff A Units. Main Purpose of Job
This position requires a high level of performance and responsibility for designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program to promote the physical, cognitive, mental, emotional and social behavioral growth of the mentally ill patients of Spring Grove Hospital Center. The Office of the Public Defender is seeking certified peer recovery specialists to serve as essential team members on a state grant to encourage community-based treatment for justice-involved individuals with substance use disorders. Peer Recovery Specialist assist in identifying and connecting individuals with appropriate recovery supports, developing motivation for recovery, and establishing and maintaining recovering lifestyles. These are grant-funded positions that are currently funded through December 2026.

Main Purpose of Job
The Peer Recovery Specialists are key members of the grant team. They provide peer recovery support services to individuals with a substance use disorder and assist with data collection. This position is funded by a grant from the Maryland Opioid Restitution Fund and is expected to run through December 2026.
POSITION DUTIES
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Collaborate with lawyers and social workers to develop and implement individualized service plans for each client.
• Help participants navigate social service systems in the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Peer Recovery Specialist I:

Peer Recovery Specialist III:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• CCAR Certification, Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and/or Certified Community Health Worker.

• As this is a peer-to-peer position, individuals must possess a clear understanding of navigating the child welfare/family policing system; and have experience in interacting with the local Department of Social Services' child protective services and child welfare systems.

• Familiarity with community resources.
• Ability to maintain effective parent peer relationships with project participants and other members of the grant team.

• Ability to work as part of an advocacy team with attorneys, social workers, and core/support staff.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
