Position Summary Reporting to the Associate Dean of Research, the Director of Research Development develops and oversees the School's research portfolio. The position will work in coordination with the Assistant Dean of Development and External Relations in order to align and uplift the priorities of the School. Responsibilities Strategic Research Advancement Collaborate with faculty to identify areas of institutional research priorities. Provide strategic planning support to the Dean's Office. Assist with sponsor site visits. Communication of Research and Research Opportunities Raise profile of BSE strengths that add to visibility and impact with external funding sources. Develop regular communications about new funding opportunities for BSE faculty and students. Conduct grant writing workshops. Enhancement of Collaboration Convene and coordinate multi-disciplinary interest groups. Catalyze new cross-disciplinary research initiatives. Develop and/or coordinate resources and tools to promote collaboration. Maintain faculty expertise database and other collaboration tools. Facilitate collaborations between investigators at UC Berkeley and other institutes. Proposal Development & Support Functions Assist faculty applying for new research funding opportunities, with a particular emphasis on supporting junior faculty, training grants, and complex multi-faculty proposals such as program project and center grants. The Corporate Counsel, Contracts takes a supporting role in setting the material terms of the many business transactions undertaken by the company, the drafting and negotiation of definitive and ancillary agreements reflecting those terms, and the organization of processes necessary and helpful for Exelixis to transact efficiently and effectively. This function also plays a transactional oversight role, working with Legal and operational colleagues to help ensure that the companys R&D activities and transactions are carried out with efficiency and reflect an appreciation for an appropriate level of business and legal risk.

***This is an on-site role (5 days a week) based at our headquarters in Alameda, CA.***

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drafts, reviews, and negotiates a wide range of contracts with a moderate to high degree of independence in support of the Research and Development organizations (which may include confidentiality agreements, collaboration agreements, licensing agreements, consulting agreements, materials transfer agreements, simple and complex clinical trial agreements, clinical advisory board agreements, and various vendor services agreements, and manufacturing agreements for cGMP drug supply).

  • Acts as a legal point person for ongoing agreements in support of R&D efforts.

  • Reviews redlines, supervises negotiations and provides general guidance to junior attorneys and contracts managers.

  • Assists with maintaining up-to-date form agreements consistent with industry standards and applicable laws.

  • Identifies and defines operational and legal risks and is able to communicate those risks to appropriate internal decision-makers for discussion and resolution.

  • Cultivates strong and highly effective cross-functional relationships and communication with internal colleagues to effectively address legal and business questions.

  • Effectively represents the company.

  • Handles miscellaneous legal tasks on an as-needed basis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • No supervisory responsibilities but may provide direction to other individuals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education:

  • BS/BA degree, preferably in life sciences or a related field; an advanced life science degree is preferred.

  • JD degree is required and a minimum of three to five years of relevant experience.

  • Must be admitted to practice law, preferably in California.

Experience:

  • Experience as an attorney in a law firm or in-house legal environment in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.

The base pay range for this positionis $188,000 - $267,500 annually. Job Description Summary

The Research & Development and Quality Assurance manager (RNDQA) is a hybrid role responsible for creating and developing new candy products, enhancing current ones, boosting and maintaining their quality and improving all aspects of quality manufacturing process of confectionary products in the San Francisco manufacturing plant. This position works closely with cross functional areas within the organization to ensure that all parties understand pertinent requirements and to ensure that compliance to product and process specification is maintained.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $105,000K - $20,000K per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Job Description

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Develop new candy and other food offerings from concept through launch working cross-functionally.
  • Supervise the activities of the FSQA Supervisors, Coordinators and the Laboratory Team.
  • Design, lead and participate in plant tests and consumer tests
  • Troubleshoot product issues and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Conduct and analyze shelf-life studies independently and cross-functionally
  • Monitor development and scale up of candy and ensure proper specifications are set.
  • Partner with operations to investigate quality problems with the candy in equipment, processes, ingredients, and formula compliance Identify opportunities for product/process improvement and cost reduction
  • Train and develop operators, technicians and other team members on relevant development and scientific topics as needed.
  • Responsible for input of recipes into Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, ensuring appropriate processing steps and yield are captured.
  • Evaluate raw materials from new suppliers to assure consistency with the spec for each piece; participate in qualifying/review of new suppliers for ongoing supply.
  • Establish/confirm shelf life of ingredients, intermediate/works in process (WIP) products and finished goods through structured studies and tests which include sensory evaluation. Communicate progress to all departments associated with projects in writing and/or in person, as situation dictates.
  • Improve and maintain written product formulas. Audit current product formulas and revises them as needed to ensure they are detailed enough to yield consistency in manufacturing steps and product quality.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of all product/process improvement activities as well supplier visits. Generate monthly status report of improvements accomplished.
  • Attend and participate in the daily Operational meeting in San Francisco plus other designated meetings on as-needed basis.
  • The Manager's success will come from people and process; developing positive working relationships and using a collaborative approach will ensure overall success.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities to enhance technology and innovation that will improve departmental effectiveness.
  • Provide appropriate training in site-specific SOPs and OPLs. Serves as the back-up personnel of any of these roles as necessary.
  • Verifies and validates internal records and efficacy of tasks performed by the FSQA team.
  • Ensures sound and prompt decisions are made and documented to release of equipment, ingredients and finished products.
  • Reviews and updates work aids (OPLs, SOPs, Registers and Forms etc.) essential for assurance of product safety and quality.
  • Utilizes SPC and other statistical tools to improve Food Safety and Quality Assurance. Analyzes data generated by the laboratory.
  • Utilizes the root cause analysis process for the investigation of consumer and customer complaints and quality related losses and
  • Ensures all assigned sites are in compliance to the latest edition of the SQF code and leads the sites during SQF recertification audit and internal Corporate audit.
  • Leads the review, verification and update of HACCP/HARPC plans, OPLs, SOPs, registers and forms.
  • Leads and supports in training programs for all plant individuals on food safety and quality related topics. Leads site mock recall and traceability exercises.
  • Maintains a safe work environment at all times by having safe work instructions, practices, and procedures in place for the laboratory and operational quality teams. Applies corrective action consistently when required. Reports all unsafe working conditions immediately to Management.
  • Keeps current with food safety requirements, consumer protection, public health regulations, and industry best practices to ensure continued compliance with regulatory changes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in product development or other relevant category of food processing industry.
  • BS Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or related field; M.S. preferred.
  • Sufficient understanding of product, process, systems, and equipment to troubleshoot problems and provide solutions to senior management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership and coaching skills.
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and manage change efficiently, proactively and in a positive manner.

About the Role:

We're seeking a seasoned data center R&D engineer with extensive experience in designing, performing validation testing, commissioning, and operating large-scale power, cooling, and high-performance computing systems. This role focuses on developing and validating new infrastructure and hardware, including high-voltage rectifiers, UPS systems, battery storage, transformers, DC to DC converters, and power supplies. The role will lead the design and buildout of a hardware validation lab, create detailed models and test procedures, and ensure hardware compatibility across edge-case data center operating conditions. Departmental Overview

The Berkeley School of Education (BSE) is one of the nation's top-ranked schools of education, offering unparalleled scholarship and professional training that prepares future leaders of education policy, practice, and research. Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Research, the Director of Research Development develops and oversees the School's research portfolio.

The position will work in coordination with the Assistant Dean of Development and External Relations in order to align and uplift the priorities of the School.

Responsibilities

Strategic Research Advancement
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify areas of institutional research priorities.
  • Provide strategic planning support to the Dean's Office.
  • Assist with sponsor site visits.

Communication of Research and Research Opportunities
  • Raise profile of BSE strengths that add to visibility and impact with external funding sources.
  • Develop regular communications about new funding opportunities for BSE faculty and students.
  • Conduct grant writing workshops.

Enhancement of Collaboration
  • Convene and coordinate multi-disciplinary interest groups.
  • Catalyze new cross-disciplinary research initiatives.
  • Develop and/or coordinate resources and tools to promote collaboration.
  • Maintain faculty expertise database and other collaboration tools.
  • Facilitate collaborations between investigators at UC Berkeley and other institutes.

Proposal Development & Support Functions
  • Assist faculty applying for new research funding opportunities, with a particular emphasis on supporting junior faculty, training grants, and complex multi-faculty proposals such as program project and center grants.
  • Provide proposal development support including grant writing, editing, and budget development.
  • Liaison with funding agencies during proposal development process.
  • Support faculty to ensure smooth post-award launch of newly funded grants and contracts.
  • Maintain a file of successful proposals.

Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and/or can quickly learn UC Berkeley, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of issues in higher education.
  • Experience in grant proposal development with government agencies and private philanthropies.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening, and political acumen skills.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education, grant writing, and or training and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the K-16+ education landscape and commitment to excellence and equity in public education.

Salary & Benefits

This is a 3yr, full-time (40 hours/week), contract appointment, eligible for UC benefits with the possibility of extension with continued funding. This is a monthly paid, exempt position.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $85,800.00 - $158,200.00.
