Stantec's Science + Technology group seeks a Senior Laboratory Planner/Lab Architect to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in all phases of planning and design of academic and corporate science facilities. Our clients range from local community colleges to Ivy League/Tier One research universities. We also work in partnership with leading corporate, research and development clients. The successful candidate will lead lab planning efforts as part of an integrated team of architects and engineers to design innovative and thoughtful engineering, life science and physical science projects. As part of this role, you will be developing client relationships, mentoring younger staff and contributing to our growth and success in our S&T market and diversifying our client and project base. We are looking for teammates who can create and foster solutions, maintain a fast-paced mindset, and are interested in growing with our world class team of designers and planners.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead laboratory programming and planning for projects and portions of projects.
- Develop Lab Planning content for internal and external presentations, articles and blog posts.
- Lead project teams on large scale projects, responsible for technical execution and discipline coordination on Lab areas of the project.
- Work with teams across multiple Stantec offices.
- Play a key leadership role and be an essential part of a project team working on all phases of design projects from Programming and Schematic Design through Construction Administration in the Academic and Corporate Science & Technology sector.
- Contribute to firm-wide initiatives to help advance our Science & Technology project design, operations, and business development.
- Sustain and grow revenue within the S&T market, helping to achieve top line growth for the business sector, and working collaboratively with the project team to achieve key operational performance metrics.
- Play the role of a seller-doer generating work, creating long-term relationships and delivering long-term value to clients for Stantec.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Extensive Science & Technology lab planning experience (both in size and diversity) that will support the ability to win work during proposal response. - this includes lab planning for ground-up, PI customization and renovation projects.
- Multidisciplinary experience in any or all of the following markets: Higher Education and Corporate/Commercial
- Knowledge of building codes, standards, building construction, and building systems with specific knowledge of science and technology building requirements.
- Demonstrated technical skills on major and technically complex projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a client base (such experience within a consulting organization in Texas is considered a strong asset).
- Exceptional organization, leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- An entrepreneurial orientation with strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting-services provider.
- Proven success in developing new clients and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Familiarity with industry trends and industry leaders in the Science and Technology sector and Texas.
- Demonstrated capability to lead teams working on projects documented in Revit or AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated experience in working on LEED certified S&T projects or S&T projects with other sustainability goals/credentials. Having a LEED credential is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering or Interior Design.
- Registration as an Architect.
- 15+ years of experience working with multi-discipline teams with a minimum of ten (10) years related Lab Planning experience.
- Experience in Biotechnology, Health Science or Semiconductor is a plus.

**Description**
The Scientist will prepare samples utilizing facilities at the University of Rochester (UR) and other laboratories to undertake microscope and magnetic analyses of samples using equipment such as a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), and other analysis equipment in the Paleomagnetic Research Lab. The Scientist will heavily use electron and light microscopes and preparation devices, magnetic sample preparation and concentration devices. The Scientist will also work with student researchers and provide training in sample preparation and device usage as needed. A typical breakdown of effort follows, but during initial employment, more time will be devoted to sample preparation.
70% SEM/TEM/FIB/SQUID analysis: The Scientist will be required to exercise independent technical judgment including the participation in externally-funded research. The Scientist will be responsible for independent operation of complex laboratory instrument including but not limited to SEM, TEM, FIB and SQUID magnetometer instruments at the UR and external locations. They will serve as the subject matter expert on these instruments. Analyzes and evaluates experimental data and interprets results within the scope of externally-funded projects; assesses the importance of findings in relation to the general research project.
20% Sample preparation: Research samples need to be prepared differently depending on the type of analysis being completed and the equipment being used. The Scientist will prepare rare samples for analysis according to the specification required for the equipment.
5% Student instruction: Create and document procedures for using UR equipment. Instruct lab members on the correct usage of UR equipment and supervise usage as necessary.
5% Other: Authorize repairs and performs maintenance on UR equipment in the Paleomagnetic Research Lab. Contacts and schedules machine usage at external institutions. Interface with Optics Department in materials for testing QDM magnetometer.
**Qualifications**
PhD in an appropriate discipline (Materials Science, Physics, Geology/Geophysics/Biology) required or MS with appropriate experience. Experience in sample preparation required. SEM/FIB/TEM techniques preferred. Must be able to drive to other local universities for analyses as needed (e.g. Cornell University).

Summary:

The Center for Veterans Research and Education (CVRE), whose mission is helping to support

innovative research and education initiatives that improve the health and well-being of Veterans, is

seeking a Research Laboratory Assistant I.

Position Description:

The RLAI will be working on research projects broadly encompassing, pathology, biomarker and genomic discovery in the field of neuroscience and military related environmental exposures such as burn pit emissions. The project includes profiling genes and protein analysis that drive the onset of inflammation in the central nervous and pulmonary systems. The project is a part of a large multisite and collaborative effort. The Minneapolis VAHCS laboratory will focus on histopathology, biomarker (gene and protein profiles) discovery targeting the onset of inflammation and aging in tissue samples (including but not limited to brain, plasma and lung). The RLAI will be involved in the evaluation of histopathology and biomarkers identified by the principal investigator or collaborators.

Responsibilities:

Major duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

•Preform biochemistry and molecular biology assays such as ELISAs and mRNA isolation.

•Maintain tissue samples in frozen storage and propagate if necessary for tissue culture.

•Perform tissue culture work with brain, lung and immune cells (human or rodent) for maintenance and experiments.

•Perform experiments with tissue samples to evaluate to determine the presences of cytokine/chemokine associated in rodent tissue.

•Maintain detailed records of all experiments performed.

•Perform basic statistical analyses of results using PC or Mac/IOS equipment and statistical packages such as Excel and Graphpad Prism.

•Maintain inventory of the laboratory as relates to the project.

•Assume responsibility under the principal investigator for following all mandated safety practices.

•Carry out rodent studies that include breeding, genotyping and tissue collection.

•Assist in the design of the experiments above.

•Histopathology for lung and brain tissue

•Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts

•Other duties as assigned.

Research Position In Breast Cancer Therapy

This position will study targeted therapy for breast cancer growth and metastasis. Ongoing research projects in the laboratory include the study of growth factor signaling in regulating growth and metastasis of breast cancer, use of animal models to study the effect of signaling inhibitors and natural killer cell based drugs on biology and metastasis of breast cancer and in vivo imaging to monitor response to targeted therapies. Specific responsibilities/duties include:

  • Research - 65%: Conduct research under the PI's direction; perform supervised scientific experiments and professional laboratory work on growth factor receptor signaling and targeting in breast cancer. The work will involve analyzing signaling pathways using cell culture, western blotting; analyzing cells and tissues using flow cytometry; analyses using real-time PCR; daily record keeping; analyses of data; write up results and present them in lab meetings; read scientific literature based on the projects.
  • Mouse work - 20%: Assisting/performing monitoring of mice, injecting and implanting tumor cells in mice, measuring tumor growth and imaging athymic mice during experiments, weighing mice and administering treatments to mice, harvesting and processing of blood, tumors, and lungs of mice and analysis of metastases.
  • Lab administration and maintenance - 15%: General lab maintenance including lab equipment, ordering laboratory chemicals and supplies, making solutions, hazardous waste management, stocking of lab & tissue culture, routine lab upkeep; preparing research summaries.

Qualifications: All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required: Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline and work experience related to the job to equal four years. Experience with cell culture of cell lines, western blotting, isolation of RNA and PCR, and flow cytometry. Strong verbal and written communication skills. The selected candidate will have interest in animal models of cancer biology and use of modern molecular biology techniques. They will also be expected to demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, motivation, ability to follow protocols, work independently, and multi-task. The MV Power Electronics team has the principal goal of identifying, developing, and justifying commercialization of significant opportunities for the MV Controls business in the area of power electronics, power converters, power systems, electric drives, electromagnetics, numerical modeling and controls.

The primary activities include leading and directing research and development activities for advanced medium voltage converters and distribution devices for both AC and DC power systems. This position will work in a team environment, with remote team members, engaging in full life-cycle development (plan, design, analyze, build, debug, optimize for production, and post-delivery support) of analog, digital and micro-controller circuits implementing power conversion functionality and power distribution and motor control.

The MV Drives Research Lab Manager is expected to support efforts in developing and driving the technology roadmap strategy and execution for broad applications within the Power Conversion team. This includes collaborating with resources and establishing key partnerships both internally and externally to drive technological advancement. They will be responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all research and development efforts under his/her control and managing the lab activities and resources to achieve program objectives.
