As a postdoctoral research assistant, you will be an integral member of a team tackling a variety of additive manufacturing challenges involving novel ceramic material processing methods and integrating methods for advanced geometry integration. You will be working on projects for determining ceramic additive methods, qualification requirements, and understanding structure-property-processing relationships in these material systems fabricated through additive manufacturing methods. You will work with a mentor but will be assigned portions of projects over which you will have responsibility.
**What You Need**
**Minimum Job Requirements:**
+ Hands on physical research experience, especially in the areas of ceramic materials processing and/or additive manufacturing with vat photopolymer or direct ink write.
+ Experience with powder processing and colloidal formulation
+ Experience with furnace systems and thermal profile optimization for sintering
+ Desire to work on production-centric ceramic manufacturing research and development activities
+ Experience presenting research results at technical conferences or instructing lab/lecture courses
+ Display a record of achievement through reports, publications, intellectual property, and/or technical products.
+ Self-motivated and independent researcher who has demonstrated experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team
+ Completed coursework or research experience in one of the disciplines outlined below
+ Ability to obtain a Q clearance which normally requires U.S. Citizenship
**Desired Qualifications:**
+ Experience with ceramic processing or additive manufacturing equipment and operation, particularly mills, furnaces, shear mixers, and vat photopolymer printers
+ An understanding of ceramic manufacturing methods including, but not limited to vat photopolymer additive manufacturing, direct ink writes additive manufacturing, press forming, extrusion, gel casting, slip casting, powder batching, and thermal profile optimization.
+ Experience with microstructural characterization, and its relation to performance such as mechanical properties, chemical compatibility, and corrosion susceptibility
+ Experience using computational tools such as CAD, inspection software, additive manufacturing software tools such as slicing/build layout, and topology optimization
+ Experience with non-destructive examination techniques, such as radiographic testing, candling, structured light scanning, penetrant testing, proof testing, or similar
+ Familiarity with reading and generating engineering drawings, dimensioning, and tolerance
+ Experience or familiarity with radiological materials
+ Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to interact with colleagues
+ Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to effectively work in a team environment
**Education:** Doctoral Degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.

Join the team of the Open Science & Data Collaborations program at Carnegie Mellon University Libraries to help foster a more open, reproducible, and collaborative research landscape.
The Postdoctoral Associate in Open Science should be technically-skilled, have a strong understanding of academic research and the research data ecosystem, be passionate about building an open and collaborative research community, and committed to developing a research and teaching agenda on topics related to open science. This is a fixed term 2-year position with 50% of time devoted to research and 50% to teaching, community-building activities, and providing research services.
Under the supervision of the Director of the Open Science Program, the successful candidate will:
+ Conduct collaborative research on open science topics, such as developing open science assessment metrics, developing tools and methods that help to enhance research transparency and reproducibility, understanding open science and data reuse needs and practices in different research communities;
+ Teach lessons and workshops such as data processing and analysis using R or Python, tools and best practices for data management, computational best practices for open and reproducible research. Develop teaching materials that include interactive activities and hands-on examples;
+ Serve on organizing and programming committees of open science events hosted by the program, including the annual Open Science Symposium ( ;
+ Serve as a consultant for our data and coding consultation service ( ;
+ Assist in the outreach effort of the program and support of research tools such as Open Science Framework, LabArchives, Jupyter Notebook, R, Python, and GitHub;
