Position Description: MUST BE 21+Previous working experience as the construction worker for (3) years
Hands-on experience with construction equipment like drills, hammers etc.
Experience with mixing and pouring construction material
Knowledge of construction operations and procedures
Team player
Familiarity with blueprints
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent balance and eye-hand coordination
High school diploma
Taking apart or constructing scaffolding, bracing and other temporary structures for the construction site
Digging trenches and backfill holes to prepare for the construction site
Operating equipment and heavy machinery used in construction sites
Following instructions from construction project managers and supervisors
Loading and unloading building materials
Cleaning the construction site by removing hazardous materials and debris from the worksite
Assisting craft workers such as carpenters or electricians with their duties, if neededSkills:
Proven working experience
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
Visual acuity, depth and color perception
Ability to stand, squat, crawl or twist
Commitment to safety
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies

Purpose/Description
The Public Service Maintenance Worker - A - 1 in Roads will maintain highways, municipal and rural roads and rights-of-way. Duties include patching broken or eroded pavement, repairing guard rails, highway markers, and snow fences. The PSMW - A-1 may also mow or clear brush from a long road or plow snow from roadway.
Responsibilities
Required Tasks
- Perform snow and ice operations - including moving/handling materials, maintaining equipment.
- Concrete and rough masonry work and asphalt placement.
- Keep field time records and reports.
- Drive CDL vehicles to sweep debris from paved surfaces, mow grass and weeds, remove snow and ice, and spread salt and sand.
- Haul and spread sand, gravel, and clay to fill washouts and repair road shoulders.
- Dump, spread, and tamp asphalt, to repair joints and patch broken pavement.
- Clean and clear debris from culverts, catch basins, drop inlets, ditches and other drain structures.
- Erect, install, or repair guardrails, road shoulders, berms, highway markers, warning signals, and highway lighting using hand tools and power tools.
- Inspect, clean, and repair drainage systems, bridges, tunnels, and other structures.
- Other duties:
- Maintain a valid CDL License with “A” and “N” endorsement.
- Operate construction equipment.
- Assist in loading and unloading materials as needed.
- Apply paint to surfaces.
- Install fencing or other barriers.
- Mark reference points on construction materials.
- Flag motorists to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead.
- Set out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic.
- Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning on vehicles and equipment.
- Perform a wide variety of duties when not operating equipment.
- Other related duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License with type "A” with Air Brake endorsement.
- Appointees must obtain a CDL "N" endorsement within the first three (3) months of employment or promotion.
- Experience Requirements
- Safe and acceptable driving record (No more than 7 points)
- Maintain DOT medical documents as required by the State of Michigan for CDL holders.
- Ability to carry at least 50lbs.
Special Conditions
- Applicant MUST pass a medical and/or drug screen before appointment.
- Applicant will be subjected to random drug screens
- Pre-employment physical and potential agility test.
