Job Overview:

The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory treatments and therapies according to physician order and guidelines of the Respiratory Care Licensure Act.

Qualifications:

Required:

• AAS degree or certificate from an accredited Respiratory Care Program

Preferred:

• One year of experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• CRT or RRT credentials
• NJ Respiratory Care License
• BLS
• ACLS

Scheduling Requirements:

• Shift working, Three shifts 11pm-7am, or two shifts of 7pm-7:30am
• One weekend shift a month required
• Per Diem (PD)

Essential Functions:

• Performs patient assessment pre, during, and post procedure for all ages groups including pediatric, adult, and geriatric
• Demonstrates competency in assessment based on patient age, as well as physical and emotional growth
• Demonstrates competence with all respiratory modalities and equipment
• Performs maintenance and quality control procedures for pulmonary function testing and blood analyzers
• Performs invasive procedures according to hospital and departmental guidelines, and endorses all critical results
• Follows disinfection and sterilization procedures
• Demonstrates knowledge of ventilation modes, weaning, and safety procedures for all age groups
• Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, clinical personnel, patients, and visitors
• Assumes role of Charge Person when indicated according to department guidelines
• Completes departmental documentation and charges by the shift end

**Position Summary**
At Stony Brook Medicine, our **TH Respiratory Therapist** are a valuable member of our team, Respiratory Care is an allied health specialty concerned with the performance of diagnostic cardiopulmonary evaluation and respiratory therapy treatment applied to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. **Brief Description of Duties:**
+ All Respiratory Care Practitioners work under the supervision of the Director and/or the Associate Director(s) of the Department and are responsible for performing various basic and advanced respiratory procedures that include, although are not limited to, the following: Intubation, arterial puncture and blood gas analysis, mechanical ventilator management of adult, pediatric and neonatal patients in the following areas: Surgical, Medical, Burn, Pediatric, Neonatal, Cardiac Surgery and Anesthesia Post-Op Intensive Care Units. Incumbent will perform other pertinent respiratory therapy and patient care duties as required.
**Qualification**
**Required** **:** Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy. Certificate of completion from an approved therapist level Respiratory Therapy Program. Registered Respiratory Therapist. 0-1 year experience. Current NYS Therapist License which is required under NYS Law.
**Preferred** **:** Bachelor's degree.
