Position Description

Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for building strong relationships with community partners? Tacoma Public Utilities is seeking a dedicated and strategic Social Responsibility Manager to drive our philanthropic efforts and amplify our impact in the community.

In this pivotal role, you will be the driving force behind our extensive community support initiatives, ensuring their exceptional execution and continued growth. You will set the strategic vision for our giving programs and lead a passionate team of employee volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Strategize: Direct, set strategy for, and coordinate all of TPU’s community-focused philanthropy, including TPU's employee volunteer team, volunteer incentive day, community sponsorships, and other key initiatives.

  • Support Community Events: Oversee and support the coordination, logistics, resource allocation, and strategic

execution of more than 40 annual community events

  • Drive Volunteerism: Directly manage and coordinate our robust employee volunteer efforts, including

leading the Community Connection Leadership Team and ensuring all activities

are staffed and supported at an exceptional level.

  • Program Oversight: Manage and coordinate vital support responsibilities related to community

support programs, such as tracking employee donations, administering employee

volunteer incentive days, and managing our sponsorship program.

  • Resource

Coordination: Proactively work to secure the necessary internal and external support and resources required to execute all philanthropic activities successfully.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*

Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, public policy, political science, communication or directly related field

Minimum Experience*

Two years of governmental relations experience including 1 year prior at senior, lead or supervisory level

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Desired Qualifications

Experience with community engagement activities

Qualifications:

Through collaboration, proactive communication, and compliance oversight, this position helps safeguard the integrity of and effectiveness of the organization's compliance framework.
**Job Responsibilities and Requirements:**
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Provides administrative accountability and user support for the internal compliance reporting hotline and issue management database. Provisions user access, ensures appropriate leaders receive issue alerts, and monitors issue progression to ensure resolution and closure.
+ Maintains a current understanding of applicable healthcare regulations. Implements updates to policies, procedures, education, training, compliance program communications, and intranet/web content. Provides staff training to promote policy awareness and adherence.
+ Assists with the coordination and maintenance of key compliance program elements, including the annual compliance training courses, the annual compliance work plan and audit calendar, and activities related to assessing program effectiveness.
+ Delivers general administrative and operational support to corporate responsibility.
+ Conducts assessments of business units and conducts ongoing compliance monitoring activities. Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and works with stakeholders to develop risk mitigation strategies. Researches and interprets federal and state regulations, regulatory updates, and internal policies to respond to compliance-related inquiries and provides guidance.
+ Assists in conducting investigations of compliance and concerns with evidence gathering, documents management, and preparation of findings for review by the compliance leadership team.
+ Maintains accurate, and organized records of compliance activities. Prepares documentation and reports.
+ Collaborates with departments to support a unified and coordinated approach to compliance.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
+ Bachelor's degree in business or health care related field or equivalent years of experience and education
EXPERIENCE
+ Two years' experience in compliance, healthcare laws and regulations, and/or the healthcare industry
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
+ Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

About The Position

The Director of Social Responsibility leads the Port's efforts in community relations, social responsibility, and community-focused initiatives. This executive role oversees programs in workforce development and community partnerships, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations that advance the Port's mission of equitable economic growth. The Director reports directly to the Chief Public Engagement Officer and works closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Port Commissioners, Port departments, external boards and commissions, and the private sector.
Examples of Duties

  • Develop and implement a unified social responsibility strategy across all key Port disciplines.
  • Lead workforce development programs to connect local residents with Port-related careers.
  • Oversee community engagement, stakeholder relations, and outreach activities.
  • Partner with internal teams to embed social responsibility principles into Port operations and projects.
  • Represent the Port in public forums, partnerships, and interagency collaborations.
  • Develop and manage budgets and program performance metrics for the division.
  • Select, supervise, train, and evaluate division personnel.
  • Administer, implement, and monitor the Port's Small & Local Business Enterprise Program, the Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program, the Port's Contract Compliance Program, and the Port's Title IV program.
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring a proven ability to develop and lead high-performing teams, instill a shared vision, and establish clear priorities that align with the Port's mission and community values. They will have deep expertise in workforce development, with a track record of connecting local residents with employers and opportunities. They will be adept at designing and evaluating programs for effectiveness, recommending updates to legacy policies, and introducing creative approaches to community engagement. The next Director will have a strong grasp of compliance requirements, including federally mandated programs, Title VI coordination, and disadvantaged/local business utilization opportunities. They must understand compliance frameworks well enough to oversee processes, guide staff, and ensure adherence to policies. This role requires a relationship-builder who can earn trust quickly in Oakland's diverse communities, navigate sensitive cultural and political contexts, and enhance collaborative partnerships. The successful candidate will be proactive rather than reactive-engaging with internal divisions early to integrate social responsibility into the Port's wide array of programs and projects.

Minimum Qualifications

The Senior Analyst, Corporate Responsibility supports BrightView's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, with a focus on sustainability data, reporting, and disclosure. This role plays a key part in compiling and analyzing the Company's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, maintaining ESG data systems, and supporting the development of the annual Corporate Responsibility Report. The Senior Analyst collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather ESG information, support compliance efforts, respond to stakeholder inquiries, and identify opportunities for performance improvement.
You'd be responsible for
+ Support the calculation and documentation of the Company's annual GHG inventory in alignment with the GHG Protocol.
+ Assist in preparing regulatory disclosures (e.g., California climate regulations) and responses to ESG ratings frameworks such as CDP and EcoVadis.
+ Contribute to the drafting and design of BrightView's annual Corporate Responsibility Report.
+ Help maintain accurate, up-to-date sustainability data across internal systems and platforms.
+ Respond to customer ESG inquiries and support client reviews and partnerships.
+ Support investor ESG questionnaires and maintain dialogue with major investors.
+ Coordinate the activities of the Corporate Responsibility Management Committee.
+ Assist with preparation and coordination of the Corporate Responsibility Management Committee meetings.
+ Collaborate with Human Resources, Procurement, Legal, Environmental Health & Safety to compile ESG data and identify improvement opportunities.

+ Assist in identifying opportunities to align service delivery with customer ESG priorities and industry best practices.
You might be a good fit if you have:
