About the role
As a Shift Supervisor, reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility during an assigned shift, including the monitoring of boilers, turbine(s), and steam plant operations, equipment, and systems. You will routinely tour the plant and oversee the work of various personnel while operating within all safety regulations, environmental limits, and permits. In the event of emergencies or unusual operations, the Shift Supervisor will, if necessary, direct or personally perform the required operations as well as coordinate the activities of all personnel involved.
Position Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel at the facility and ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Approve all requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance and other purposes, ensure equipment is properly cleared and tagged, and issue safety permits, following plant procedures.
- Maintain the plant within all environmental limits and permits
- Emergency response to injuries or accidents
- Direct the completion of shift, daily, weekly, and monthly checks and general housekeeping.
- Maximize operational performance and efficiencies of facility assets
- Troubleshoot plant operational issues
- Coordinate maintenance activities
- Lead and complete projects assigned by the Operations Manager
- Train and manage a workforce that is motivated, flexible in skills, cross-trained, and technically capable
- Responsible for technical training and development of all personnel on the assigned shift
- Shift supervisors are responsible for obtaining and maintaining active status for site and state-mandated licenses and certificates
- 3 + years of supervisory experience in a heavy industrial/manufacturing environment; Experience in Power or Resource Recovery Plant Operations, preferred
- Hands-on experience working with high-pressure boilers and electric generating equipment
- HS/GED diploma required; Bachelor of Science, preferred
- Must have the ability to work a rotating shift schedule that alternates between days and nights. These schedules include weekends, holidays, outage support and vacation coverage.
- Detailed knowledge of the operation of steam-generating power stations, instruments, and control systems.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
- Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
- Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces
- Qualify to wear a full-face respirator

The Role
Under the general direction of the Operations Coordinator I, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for monitoring the specific Shelter program systems to ensure the security, safety, and efficiency of daily client services and activities. Responsibilities include monitoring and supporting all client-scheduled services or activities and ensuring that all are delivered as scheduled. In addition, ensures that all clients' external appointments are kept, and efficient program activities are coordinated.
**Please Note: Candidates Must Obtain the FDNY F-80- Certificate within 90 days of Start Date if Hired.**
Responsibilities
What You Will Do
- Supervises and monitors the environment to ensure that guidelines are followed and interpersonal relationships remain positive.
- Manages daily program schedule of activities. Ensures that events occur and all parties scheduled to participate in particular activities do so.
- Supervises and monitors the facility to ensure cleanliness, security, and safety practices are enacted.
- Conducts mandated fire drills/evacuations.
- When indicated as per program standards/policy, administers breathalyzer tests and/or observation of urine specimen collection from clients returning from appointments or other external activities.
- Conducts facility/safety runs and room checks to visually assess clients for use of alcohol/drugs or the environment of care for unsafe conditions.
- Reviews internal and external scheduled client appointments for assigned shifts and ensures that trips are dispatched promptly.
- Dispatches vehicles, assuring that required agency paperwork is complete and accurate.
- Distributes carfare for external appointments.
- Reviews the selection of appointment escorts for appropriateness.
- Complies with 42 CFR confidentiality and HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
- In the absence of the Food Service staff, monitor kitchen and food preparations to insure compliance with the Board of Health.
Who You Will Be
- High School diploma or GED, required.
- At least two years of experience in Human Services preferably in an agency delivering social services or a program for treating substance use and/or homeless.
- Someone able to successfully pass and obtain the FDNY F-80- Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems within 90 days of hire.
- Willingness to obtain CPR Certification.
- Willingness to obtain NYC Food Handler's Certificate for designated single sites and per needs of the program.
- Available to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to participant and staff needs.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerson Centered Planning
- Ensures that a person-centered focus is used to provide care and support by all staff who work within the program actively seeking out different approaches.
- Promotes the independence and self-determination of individuals, utilizing person-centered practices that focus on the individuals' strengths and preferences while simultaneously addressing their needs.
- Promotes participation in activities of meaningful daily living, such as vocation, recreation, volunteerism, engagement.
- Ensures a positive climate that promotes respect and dignity for people supported.
- Provides opportunities for people support to personalize their environment, schedule and experiences in program.
- Supports the person's independence, choice and outcomes.
Regulatory
- Provide habilitation services to each client as prescribed in their service plans (CFA, Individual Service plan, Habilitation plan).
- Responsible for overall functioning of the facility during the absence of the Program Director.
- In the absence of the Program Director, supervises and instructs all Direct Support Professionals on shift.
- Responsible for people supported and agency funds and expenditures during shift (petty cash, recreation etc.).
- Ensures coverage of a shift when a Direct Support Professional is absent.
- Acts as a functioning member of the staff, meeting the needs of the people supported.
- Responsible for the physical condition of the program including agency vehicles; ensuring that they are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition.
- Participates in staff meetings, supervisors' workshops, interdisciplinary team (IDT) and committee meetings.
- Channels approved information pertaining to staff and agency to Program Specialists.
- Provides supervisory counseling and discipline to Direct Support Professionals as necessary.
- Identifies facility needs and makes the relevant staff aware.
- Ensure optimal utilization of the resources available in order to achieve efficiencies.
Quality Improvement
- Carries out policies and procedures of SUS, in accordance with OPWDD and other funding sources.
- Reports all incidents, ensuring consistent adherence to OPWDD and agency policies.
- Assesses and monitors staff productivity on an ongoing basis.
- Responds appropriately to community, family and agency contacts.
- Maintains, develops and supports the person support to staff assignment.
- Meets with Program Director on a regular basis to discuss pertinent shift and Direct Support Professional's issues and successes.
- Monitors Direct Support Professional's time sheets on an as-needed basis.
- Ensure fire drill completion on shift.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or approved equivalent.
Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in Intellectual Disabilities/IDD or related field
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
SCIP-R; CPR & First Aid is required.
AMAP certification is required
