POSITION OVERVIEW: The Patient Care Manager is responsible for supervising the Veterinary Assistant Leads and Veterinary Assistants. They are responsible for developing and implementing policies that allow for the best quality of life for the animals housed in medical. This includes overseeing the maintenance of clean, healthy, and safe kennel and exercise environments (indoors and outdoors), enforcing proper sanitation and disease prevention protocols, and ensuring all animals are fed, provided with water, and appropriately exercised depending on their medical condition/status.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline employees, including volunteers, involved with the daily care of medical patients.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate program protocols and procedures, including cleaning, by creating and updating SOPs that prioritize quality of life for our medical patients.
  • Manage and approves timecards and requested paid time off for Veterinary Assistants and Leads.
  • Facilitates training and onboarding for new employees.
  • Manages and facilitates continued education for staff (in conjunction with other managers and HR).
  • Responsible for employee performance reviews.
  • Oversees the completion of procedures assigned to Veterinary Assistants (i.e., medicated baths, lime dips, etc.).
  • Coordinates animal movement as needed to accommodate isolation space for animals exposed to disease.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Manages general supplies, including inventory of patient care and disease prevention supplies.
  • Submit necessary purchase order forms.

  • Effectively address client concerns/questions in a timely manner.

  • Oversees animal medical charting and documentation,
  • Ensures employees are informed about departmental changes and organizational updates by holding weekly meetings.
  • Inspires and motivates staff to perform at their best through positive encouragement.
  • Coordinates with Medical Practice Manager to ensure regular training opportunities for Veterinary Assistants in different medical areas (i.e., wellness, surgery, evaluations, vaccines, etc.).
  • Actively seeks opportunities for improvement within the department and utilizes multi-department collaboration to find solutions.
  • Collaborates with other departments to share ideas, updates, and effectively meet organizational goals.

  • Reports suspicion of animal abuse or neglect to any Manager or above immediately.

  • Maintains client, donor, volunteer, and staff confidentiality at all times.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience Requirements

In this highly technical, fast-paced, and challenging position, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for our patients. The Patient Care Technician professional assists with patient care to provide support services to the patient, nursing unit, and professional staff.

Your Job Requirements:

  • Graduate from a certified nursing assistant program or certified medical assistant program
  • Or 1 year experience as a nursing assistant in a comparable healthcare facility
  • Or nursing student who documents completion of the first semester of the nursing program
  • Or documented military experience as a medic/corpsman
  • Or foreign nursing graduate not currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the U.S.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support card required
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.

**Job Summary and Qualifications**
As a Patient Care Technician you will be a crucial member of our collaborative nursing care team, delivering hands-on care and helping create a safe, welcoming environment for patients. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for reviewing patient documentation turned in by field clinicians for accuracy
  • Prepares all physician orders and plan of treatments for the community liaison to return to the physician's office for signature
  • Assist community liaisons with preparing spreadsheets of outstanding physician orders/plans of care for medical directors on weekly basis
  • Reviews and clears out print queue daily
  • Scans documentation into patient's electronic medical records (EMR) daily
  • Faxes communication notes, missed visits, discharge summaries and transfer summaries to physicians daily
  • Contacts field clinicians for corrections on paperwork submitted, as needed
  • Maintains all physician orders, referral information, and service notes from all disciplines, lab reports, and other clinical documentation in an organized manner
  • Assists with phone calls in office providing excellent customer service
  • Communicate messages for Clinical Team Manager (CTM) regarding physician orders and patients' concerns
  • Reviews outstanding documentation lists daily, works with CTMs on current lists for completion from field clinicians
  • Assists with managing and ordering the home health nursing supplies, maintaining supply room with adequate supplies and sufficient par levels
  • Perform general clerical duties in support of patient services. These include, but are not limited to, answering phones, copying, faxing
  • Responsible for checking email, HALO's, team messaging system and voicemail to respond to time-sensitive messages from customers, managers, and leadership
  • Ensures that the contract therapy invoices are reviewed weekly for accuracy and processed/submitted to accounting department for payment
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility regarding attendance and punctuality and adheres to the code of conduct policy set forth by UHG
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by manager
