Responsibilities

Evaluates appropriate candidates for solid organ transplantation. In cooperation with the transplant physicians and surgeons, initiates diagnostic testing and appropriate medical consultation. Obtains and monitors dietary, social work, and financial service evaluations. Develops, and maintains on-going involvement with patient, living related donor, and family before, during and after transplantation therapy. Facilitates living related donor work-up. Coordinates the evaluation process, collates and distributes laboratory data, coordinates social, dietary, and medical services, and initiates and screens appropriate candidates for referral to the transplant team. Qualifications

* Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) with 3 years of clinical experience required.
* 2 years of nephrology nursing experience preferred.

    Job Summary

    The RN Transplant will be responsible for coordinating a focused and effective effort between the transplant center and its major patient referral sources (e.g. Dialysis Units and Nephrology Clinics) for renal transplantation. Will assume a case manager role in assuring that potential transplant recipients and donors will be afforded timely; efficient transplant education, work up, updates, and activation for transplantation when directed. Will be responsible for a designated caseload of patients during the pre/post-recipient and pre/post-donor transplant process. Aspects will include coordination of referrals, responding to roadblocks within the transplant workup process, and providing patient, family, and staff educational programming. Works to assure policies, procedures, and all regulatory requirements are met to assure the transplant program stays in compliance with various governing agencies. May provide outreach services to regional dialysis and nephrology programs.

    36-bed med-surg unit is Nebraska's only solid

    organ transplant unit. It provides medical, surgical,

    Rehab Program, the busiest intestinal transplant

    EXCEPTION A: Candidate must meet all of the following: (1) has current experience directly applicable to position; (2) is deemed the best candidate for the position; and (3) written approval to hire a candidate without a BSN is received from the hiring Director, Nursing Practice Professional Development & Informatics Executive Director and Chief Nursing Officer.
