The Position
The list developed from this recruitment will be used for a limited period to fill open and promotional, regular full-time, and part-time positions in a variety of departments, service areas, and locations throughout the County, should they occur. Pursuant to current bargaining unit agreements, employees regularly assigned to the coastal region or in Covelo are eligible to receive a 5% assignment premium Vacancies are currently available in all yards.
Under limited supervision, operates light and heavy equipment; performs advanced, skilled, and semi-skilled maintenance and construction work within a framework of procedures to assure the overall success of operations and maintenance of all County-maintained roads, bridges, and County landfills. Incumbents may be assigned to Road Maintenance or to Bridge Maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Operate various pieces of light to heavy equipment and various other related equipment and vehicles to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Perform generalized maintenance and safety checks on equipment by refueling, greasing, and checking oil, water, and/or other equipment and vehicle components.
- Complete logs and/or records or inventories by recording data such as: individual equipment utilized and/or transported, maintenance needed, accidents, and other related issues.
- Perform maintenance at County landfills.
- Maintain safety and security of worksites, crewmembers, and the public.
- Respond to emergency afterhours as required.
- May transport, direct, and monitor an inmate work crew and ensure compliance with inmate work crew rules and practices.
- May act in a lead capacity for brief periods of time in the absence of a lead worker.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Perform excavations and general maintenance and repair on roads, ditches, and road access areas.
- Load and transport water, rock, fill, debris, and various other materials and equipment to and from construction sites.
- Dig, install, remove, and maintain culverts, soft spots, and sub-surface drains.
- Pave, patch, smooth, paint, stripe, and perform detailed work on new and existing roads; construct fences and guardrails.
- Perform snow removal, ice control, and storm patrol work.
- Perform sign maintenance.
- Perform seeding and reseeding functions.
- Perform traffic monitoring and control as determined by lead worker or supervisor.
(In addition to general duties, may include but is not limited to the following:)
- Perform carpentry work in the construction and repair of bridges, box culverts, guardrails, retaining walls, and related structures.
- Operate various hand and power tools associated with the construction and maintenance of bridges and related structures.
- Maintain and repair steel bridges by erecting and securing steel girders, stringers, guardrails, and other components.
- Construct wooden forms, form panels, and bracing for various concrete structures.
- Perform rough and detailed concrete work, including estimating, placing, and finishing.
- Perform general maintenance and safety checks on equipment, including refueling, greasing, and checking the oil, water, lights, and other vehicle components.
- Maintain files and records pertaining to equipment use, maintenance, accidents, and other areas.
- Prepare and submit inventories of materials and supplies used and transported.
- Assist in the construction of various wooden structures such as storage sheds, utility buildings, workshops, and other related structures.
- Assist in preparation of monthly inventory and material usage reports.
- Perform form stripping, finish work, painting, and clean-up duties on bridges and other related structures.
- Clean and paint various wooden bridge elements.
- Clear debris and log jams from streams and channels.
- Excavate footings and foundations.
- Reinforce steel culverts with concrete.
- Sand blast and paint various steel bridge elements.
Education and Experience:
Road Maintenance:
High School diploma or GED, and one (1) year experience as a Road Maintenance Worker II with Mendocino County, or two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience such as: construction or landscaping work involving moving solid material such as sand, gravel, or earth; utilizing equipment or hand tools in the clearing of land or road construction; or other related work requiring a Class B license; and, a combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Bridge Maintenance:
High School diploma or GED, and one (1) year experience as a Road Maintenance Worker II with Mendocino County, or two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience performing duties such as bridge construction and maintenance; building concrete forms; general building construction; metal fabrication or welding; or other related work requiring a Class B license; or, a combination of related education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid CA Class B Commercial Driver's License (Manual Transmission), with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements.
Special Requirements:
Incumbents assigned to direct an inmate work crew must pass a background check.

SALARY
Compensation is based on a five-step salary range, with annual merit-based increases within the salary range.

HOLIDAYS AND PERSONAL LEAVE
Mendocino County observes 11 paid holidays per year. Employees are granted 24 - 48 hours of personal leave annually, depending upon Bargaining Unit.
VACATION
Accrues at the rate of two weeks per year for three years. Three weeks per year after three years, four weeks after eight years and five weeks after 15 years.
SICK LEAVE
Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of 1.25 days per month, or 15 days per year. Accruals are pro-rated for part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week. Part-time employees working less than 20 hours per week, and extra-help employees receive up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of paid sick leave annually.

Description
These positions are responsible for performing roadway maintenance work, roadway striping, grass cutting, tree trimming and snow removal. The Maintenance Worker/Driver I will work out of an assigned District located throughout St. Louis County. Training to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (Class A CDL) will be provided during the initial period of employment.
There are openings for full time positions. The work schedule will be typically Monday - Friday 7:00 - 3:30 with mandatory 12 hour snow shifts. The starting salary for the Maintenance Worker I will be $18.20 per hour. The Maintenance Driver I position which requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will have a starting salary of $8.80 per hour. There will be an additional 6 per hour while performing snow removal.

- Repair and replace asphalt roadways and surfaces by: performing asphalt patching and crack sealing; preparing and compacting ground/surfaces for paving; repairing cave-ins, depressions, potholes and blow ups and striping roads.
- Maintain, repair or install concrete structures or surfaces by: assembling, setting, and knocking down concrete forms; mixing, pouring, texturing and finishing concrete.
- Care for and propagate plant life by: planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs and trees; mowing, raking and manicuring grounds; cutting and hauling away dead trees, stumps and shrubs; sowing grass or laying sod; trimming trees, hedges and shrubs.
- Perform mandatory snow duty by removing hazardous snow and ice conditions by: identifying areas requiring snow and ice removal, applying salt and other chemicals, using a truck with plow or other tools to clear roadways, driveways and parking lots.
- Perform administrative tasks associated with the work by: monitoring supply levels and ensuring the availability of tools and supplies for a designated area, facilitating the work efforts of another employee or work group, training employees on maintenance techniques, safety procedures, vehicle and equipment operation and new product use.
- Perform additional duties as required.
EQUIPMENT USED: (Illustrative examples) 1 ton dump truck, automobile, van, light truck: chain saw, drills, forklift, grinder, highlift, jackhammer, and various hand tools; riding and push mowers, trimmer, measures and levels.
WORKING CONDITIONS Balance, bend at waist; climb or work on ladders and stairs; exposure to dust/dirt, fumes, and hazardous materials; kneel, lift, push/pull, reach above shoulders, squat, stand/walk for long periods; work out of doors in extreme temperatures.

High School Diploma or GED with a current, valid driver's license without driving restrictions. Prefer Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Applicants for this position must be physically able and willing to perform hard manual labor, work under poor conditions, be able to work overtime, possess a valid driver's license and their own transportation (public transportation is not available to most work locations) and have a safe driving record for the past three years.

Operates pick-up trucks with and without trailer to transport light equipment to various worksites.
Performs a variety of skilled gardening tasks such as the planting and transplanting of flowers and shrubs; assists in the construction and development of flower beds and related beautification projects.

Position Information
The purpose of this classification is to order, receive, record, store and issue materials, supplies, tools and equipment for an assigned department.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This classification is distinguished from Warehouse Worker in that incumbents in this class are responsible for ordering and recording materials, supplies, tools and equipment as well as receiving, storing and issuing the same.
This position will primarily work in the Road Maintenance storage warehouse. Additional responsibilities also include running material to job sites, picking up/delivering parts, cutting grass, and fleet up keep.
Essential Functions
Prepares and submits parts and supplies order request forms: reviews inventory reports to determine needed materials; confirms quantity on hand; reviews usage; researches and evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, distribution capabilities, etc.; prepares requests for quote for new items; and creates and submits purchasing documents for verified qualified vendors.
Issues parts, tools, supplies, orders, or other items: fills work orders for parts and supplies from inventory; pulls stock to fill work orders; reviews work orders to ensure accuracy and closes out completed work orders; and maintains logs/records of all materials checked out or issued.
Processes inventory at receiving; receives materials, equipment, and supplies: verifies shipping and packing lists; performs accurate count of incoming materials; runs receiving report; and enters inventory items into department database by part number, vendor, price, detailed technical specifications, and location.
Shelves and stores materials, equipment, and supplies: ensures proper shelving of inventory; updates stocking levels; maintains inventory locations; ensures proper inventory labeling; and maintains related records and documentation.

Maintains safety and cleanliness of warehouse: performs daily inspection of the warehouse and surrounding area for unauthorized entry and potential unsafe working conditions; performs general cleaning and housekeeping tasks; and alerts supervisor to problems and concerns as needed.
Picks up surplus property from departments and delivers to central storage location; verifies proper transfer paperwork is present and provides to Purchasing; delivers other items as requested.
Creates varied custom signage using laser sign machine; trains others on proper usage and safety; performs basic maintenance on machine; orders related supplies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience in warehouse operations.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a valid Forklift certification or obtain within 90 days of hire.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Job Description:
Position Summary
Responsible for maintenance, servicing and repairs of roads and other infrastructure assets. This individual will be responsible for maintaining contracted assets (such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) per standards in the contract and as directed by supervisor.
* Please note - in order to support our road maintenance services, this role may be assigned to operations of equipment for winter (if applicable) or summer operations as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Creates safe Maintenance of Traffic, control by setup and removal of traffic control devices including cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage, etc.
- Must be comfortable working from heights in bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders and aerial platforms lifts.
- Basic maintenance and repair of bridge structures and equipment rooms including portals, railings, expansion joints, doors, and painting as required.
- Repairs/maintains functionality of roadway catch basins, sumps and pumps, fire hydrants and other mechanical assets through use of shovels and other hand or power tools and equipment.
- Repairs/maintains functionality of equipment room ventilation systems
- Repairs/maintains basic electrical systems including emergency telephones, CCTV systems, electronic traffic signs, call boxes, lane signals, lighting,
- Transports crew and equipment to work sites operating vehicle large trucks and specialized motor vehicles and trailers.
- Required to be available for emergency response rotations as need for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays

- Transports crew and equipment to work sites operating vehicle pickup trucks and specialized motor vehicles

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to traffic and outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Road Maintenance Workers are critical to the community's safe and efficient roadway system. They perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to, tree and brush removal, flagging, highway and street repairs, grading, pothole patching, repair of drainage systems, and winter snow removal.
A person in the role must be able to use a chainsaw comfortably, locate utilities, set grades, and understand basic survey equipment. GTCRC is a safety-focused organization that uses equipment and technology to assist in these duties. In the winter, Road Maintenance Workers may be required to work overtime, responding to emergency weather conditions, and work early mornings and late nights to keep the roads safe by removing snow and ice. We are looking for a candidate who takes pride in their work, enjoys working in a hands-on role, and can comfortably drive a truck for hours at a time in the winter.
A standard work week is 4 - 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday during the summer months, and 5 days per week in the non-summer months. Winter hours may require work more than 5 days a week and more than 40 hours, depending on the weather.
