**Job Summary:**
The Public Safety Officer will provide property owners, guests, day visitors, contractors and employees with an exceptional guest service experience and greet all guests in a friendly, inviting and welcoming manner on a daily basis both in the village plaza and at individual residences. Respond to alarms and emergencies. Know and enforce all Beaver Creek rules, regulations and covenants for owners and guests staying in or visiting Beaver Creek. Problem solving and sound decision making based on knowledge of the guidelines and procedures of Beaver Creek. Documentation of all that is done on your shift in a clear and concise manner. **Job Responsibilities:**
The primary duties for the Security Public Safety Officer include but are not limited to:
+ Interacting with property-owners, guests, and employees
+ Assisting guests, residents, and employees of Beaver Creek with vehicle pull-outs, jump-starts, vehicle-unlocks, intrusion alarms and motor vehicle accidents
+ Consistently providing a very high level of customer service

+ Making critical or difficult decisions in urgent situations and/or with limited information
+ Coordinating response and responding to medical emergencies with the local EMS provider

+ Managing and resolving tier-two (transferred from other departments) customer service issues

+ Traffic control and pedestrian safety on roadways within the resort and coming into the resort
+ Detecting, mitigating and/or reporting any safety problems or misuse of company property

**Job Description:**
**Essential Responsibilities:**
1. Patrol facility and grounds or maintain fixed post coverage, inspecting for security, health and safety hazards, unauthorized persons and unsecured doors and windows, making notifications or taking corrective action as necessary.
2. Respond to calls for service, alarm and emergency code activation, rendering first aid, traffic / pedestrian control, and assistance to clinicians such as deescalating emotionally distressed persons who may pose a safety risk to themselves or others.
3. Provide escort for patients, visitors and employees to parking areas and other campus facilities.
4. Direct traffic, monitor parking compliance and provide direction to destinations, to facilitate patients, visitors and employees who are navigating their way through the Medical Center.
5. Utilize computer systems to document work activity and to assist visitors in determining where patients are located.
**Required Qualifications:**
1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
2. 1-3 years related work experience required.
3. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
+ Patrol campus property in department vehicles, including motorcycles, or on foot during the day or at night and in all kinds of weather conditions. Enter and exit vehicles quickly; conduct searches of buildings, including staircases, basements, roofs, catwalks and crawlspaces; survey outdoor areas in inclement weather including heat, cold, wind, precipitation, etc., which may involve climbing or jumping over obstacles, openings, ditches or off of elevated surfaces and crawling through confined areas; pursue suspects at high speeds in vehicles or by running; use body force to gain entrance through barriers. Enter areas which contain smoke, chemicals and laboratory activities.
+ Effect arrests, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and/or other restraints. + Communicate effectively over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications, often under adverse conditions such as siren usage and high-speed vehicle operations. Read and comprehend rules, regulations, policies, procedures and applicable laws for purposes of ensuring appropriate officer behavior and response and performing enforcement activities involving the public; issue violations.
+ Load, unload, aim and fire handguns, shotguns and other department firearms from a variety of body positions to department standards. Independently determine when situations justify the use of deadly force; maintain emotional control and accuracy with firearms under extreme stress; manage interpersonal conflicts to maintain order. Perform tasks which require lifting, carrying and/or dragging people or heavy objects while performing arrest, rescue or general patrol activities. Perform Lifesaving First Aid procedures such as Rescue Breathing, Closed Chest Compressions and Airway Clearing Chest Compressions.
+ All Public Safety Officers are considered to be "Essential Personnel," and are required to report during a university emergency closure period.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
This classification patrols the University campus in vehicles or on foot to prevent and stop criminal activity and protect life and property. The essential job functions listed above are required of all incumbents upon commissioning. The University reserves the right to hire uncommissioned individuals into this classification and send them to police academy. In all cases, incumbents must be able to be commissioned upon completion of academy requirements or they will be terminated. Uncommissioned officers will be given non-law enforcement duties until sent to the academy. This classification is typically located in the Department of Public Safety. Officers work 12-Hour shifts with start times at 0700 or 1900 hours. Rotation is Sun, Mon, Tue and every other Sat -or- Wed, Thu, Fri and every other Saturday. This allows for three days off, with four days off every other week.
Lateral Transfers
Depending on years of service, individuals with prior full-time sworn law enforcement or full-time firefighting experience may be eligible for lateral pay.

Specialized Unit Training
Bloomfield Hills DPS allows for professional growth through a tiered Command structure as well as unique training and specialized training within the field of Public Safety. Some of our Officers specialize as Evidence Technicians, Firearms Instructors, Arson Investigations, Use of Force Instructors, Field Training Officers, Oakland County Hazmat Team members, South Oakland Crash Investigation Team Members, Motor Carrier Enforcement, and hostage negotiations. The City also offers tuition reimbursement as the Department highly regards continuing education.
Duties
- Provide preventative patrol in an automobile or on foot; investigates suspicious subjects, vehicles, and situations. Conducts property checks of businesses, public buildings, public areas, and private homes.
- Uses radio equipment in accordance with department policy to receive assignments, request information, and maintain awareness of department activities. Keeps shift supervisor apprised of status and activities.
- Investigates reported crimes, accidents, and other incidents. Gathers, protects and processes evidence to the best of their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Enforces ordinances and statutes, making arrests or issuing citations using the appropriate discretion to protect the safety and well-being of the community.
- Maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance and wear approved attire/uniform.
- Provide traffic control and enforcement.
- Perform first aid on injured persons as a State of Michigan licensed Medical First Responder. The department will provide initial training and continuing education.
- Completes all necessary reports, tickets, forms, and administrative paperwork to complete assigned tasks.
- Responds to fire incidents to perform firefighting duties as directed by the on-scene Incident Commander.
- Perform other duties assigned.
Requirements (read carefully)
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid Michigan driver's license.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen at the time of appointment.
- Associate's degree/60 credit hours minimum required, Bachelor's degree preferred. Any field of study will be considered.
- Applicants must be either MCOLES certified/certifiable or MFFTC FF I & II certified (applicants currently in a fire or police academy in good standing will be considered). Dual MCOLES and MFFTC certification is preferred.
- Before hire: pass the pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Before hire: pass the pre-employment psychological exam.
- Before hire: pass a pre-employment background check. No felony convictions.
- Before hire: pass the firefighter physical agility test administered by Oakland Community College Fire Training.
- Firefighter-only certified applicants must complete MCOLES pre-enrollment reading, writing, and physical fitness testing. (
