What You Will Do
• Identify and conceptualize primarily robotic and at times other forms of automated solutions to drive improvements in safety, ergonomics, quality, productivity, and cost reductions throughout the Machine Division.
• Coordinate with vendors to quote and size automated systems.
• Manage projects from start to finish including Capital Appropriation Requests with project budgets, savings, ROI, timelines, runoff criteria, status reporting, system implementation, and all other project details.
• Program robotic systems, provide support and troubleshooting of existing robotic systems.
• Design customized fixturing and workholding for automated systems using Solid Edge.
• Create procedures, documentation, routings, and other necessary documentation for the manufacturing process.
• Collaborate and communicate cross functionally with all levels of the organization including but not limited to pieceworkers, R&D, QA, Supply Management, production departments, and executive management.
• Serve as the technical expert in robotics. Mentor and train others in the technical aspects of robotic systems.
• Other assignments as assigned by the supervisor.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.
Education & Experience Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years professional and on hands experience with robotic systems. Robotic welding experience is a plus.
• Proficient in conceptualizing automated solutions and implementing robotic and automation equipment.
• Proficient at higher level programing of Fanuc robots for purposes of auto recovery and other more complex routines.
• Excellent organizational skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
• Possess and apply strong problem solving skills with an analytical approach and attention to detail. Ability to apply continuous improvement methodology to solve real world problems.
• Ability to handle a variety of assignments and changing priorities.

As a Robotic Programmer , you will be responsible for programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting our robotic welding systems. You'll collaborate closely with our engineering and production teams to ensure seamless production flow through consistent communication with several departments.
Responsibilities:
- Robotic Programming : Develop and optimize welding programs for structural steel welding utilizing proprietary software.
- Robotic Operation : Basic understanding of robot operation and ability to operate a robot when the need arises.
- Process Optimization : Continuously improve welding processes by fine-tuning parameters, optimizing cycle times, and minimizing defects while working closely with robotic operators and fabricators to meet needs.
- Quality Assurance : Thoroughly test and validate robotic welding programs to ensure weld quality, accuracy to print, and repeatability.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting : Perform routine maintenance on robotic welders, diagnose technical issues, and implement corrective actions. Develop a high-level understanding of several software packages (Tekla, programming suite, Notepad +)
- Collaboration : Consistent communication and teamwork with several shop departments are required to maintain adequate flow through the robotic bay and maximize its overall throughput by balancing efficiencies. High-level planning, scheduling, and relaying information to both shop and office personnel are required.
- Safety Compliance : Ensure compliance with safety protocols and standards related to robotic welding operations.
- Documentation : Maintain detailed records of welding programs, adjustments, and maintenance activities.
Education : Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience :
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in fabrication and operating CNC equipment.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.

Overview
Robotic Welders are competent welders whose mission is assembling the massive tubes that will hold Columbia's intercontinental ballistic missiles. This position will provide you with the training to operate and program the robotic welding machines to accurately cut/bevel and weld the missile tubes.
The tubes are grouped in a "quad Pack" to assemble the Common Missile Compartment CMC Section. Once the section is assembled, this quad pack is completed with a hull section, joined with additional quad packs, and then outfitted as a complete missile compartment with decks, systems and other equipment. Four CMC's will join together to create the 16-tube capacity and this is all brought together by our robotic welding machines.
Individuals with mechanized welding, UT/RT, CAD/CAM, CNC are encouraged to apply but it is not a requirement and training will be provided.
Training will be provided for up to 6 months on 1st shift and then permanent shift placement will be provided. The 6-month training includes hand, mechanized, mirror and robot welding.

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
QualificationsRequired:
High school diploma or equivalent OR a minimum of 2 years related technical experience
Welding experience in GMAW or SMAW or welding training/qualifications or equivalent experience(fabrication/fitting/CAD/CAM, CNC etc.)
- Mechanically and computer inclined and capable of interpreting robotic programs, technical manuals, procedures and drawings
- Available to work all shifts / modified work week
- Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
- Ability to do some lifting and able to operate impact guns and high torque machinery
- Basic mathematic skills
- Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
Preferred:
- Structural or Pipe RT Hand welding experience
- CAD/CAM training
- Electric Boat Apprentice
- Robotic system training
- Mechanized or Track welding, UT / RT welding experience
- Experience in computer programming or automation
- Skilled in the use of computers, specifically in a PC, Windows-based operating environment
- Technical knowledge of Robotic System Operation
- Knowledge of the EB operating practices of fabrication and manufacturing
- Shipfitting / Ship building experience
- Basic understanding of the NDT acceptance criteria for structural components
- Experienced in lifting and handling
- Familiarity with Military and NAVSEA codes and specifications
- Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment, meet organizational goals and follow all verbal and written instructions as directed
