Description Robotics Design Engineer
We are looking for a Robotics Design Engineer to join our industrial automation team. The position requires analyzing, setting up, and implementing software automation projects for industrial machineries. The tasks include identifying the most appropriate available solutions and developing new ones that comply with technical specifications, safety standards, time, and cost constraints.
The main capabilities requested are the following:

Develop software for PLC, motion control, HMI, Scada (primarily Siemens and Rockwell and Codesys base systems) for the automatic control of complex machines.

Develop software for robotic solutions (primarily based on ABB, Fanuc, and Yaskawa).

Our client, a cutting-edge leader in advanced robotics and automation solutions, is seeking an innovative Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their world-class R&D team. This role is based in our state-of-the-art facility located in San Francisco, California, US , and requires full-time on-site presence to foster collaboration and accelerate innovation. As the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, development, and validation of complex mechanical systems for our next-generation robotic platforms. You will guide a team of talented engineers, driving projects from initial concept through to production, ensuring robust design, manufacturability, and performance.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the mechanical design process for robotic systems, including arms, end-effectors, mobility platforms, and sensor integration.
  • Translating high-level requirements into detailed mechanical designs, component specifications, and manufacturing drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
  • Performing structural analysis, thermal analysis, and dynamic simulations (FEA, CFD) to ensure design integrity and optimize performance.
  • Collaborating closely with electrical engineers, software engineers, and control systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
  • Developing and managing project timelines, resource allocation, and technical documentation for mechanical development efforts.
  • Overseeing prototype development, fabrication, and testing, and iterating designs based on test results.
  • Identifying and evaluating new materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies to enhance product capabilities and reduce costs.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring designs meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Contributing to the strategic direction of mechanical engineering within the organization.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and product development, with a significant focus on robotics, automation, or complex electromechanical systems, is required. Proven leadership experience managing engineering projects and teams is essential. Extensive experience with 3D CAD software and advanced simulation tools (FEA, CFD) is mandatory. Strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, 3D printing), and tolerance analysis. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Experience with motion control systems, actuators, and sensors is highly desirable. Familiarity with Agile development methodologies is a plus.
