PURPOSE:

The Rotating Equipment Specialist reports directly to the Refinery's Reliability Lead and provides the necessary support to accomplish the refinery's reliability objectives for rotating equipment. This role is responsible to collect data, evaluate, troubleshoot, plan for improvements, and correct issues related to the reliability performance of the refinery's rotating equipment assets. This role requires technical acumen, and the ability to work hands on with stakeholders including maintenance, operations, technical, and management personnel. The successful candidate will have inherent knowledge of the types of rotating equipment onsite, and methodologies for monitoring, evaluating performance, and improving equipment that is not performing reliably.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leads the rotating equipment reliability efforts in assigned areas of responsibility by providing technical assistance in resolving equipment performance, operation, and maintenance problems.
• Works safely each day in accordance with Calumet, regulatory and site procedures.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certification in Vibration Analysis or experience with the use of handheld and installed monitoring equipment.

The **Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer** analyzes equipment histories, and trends; recommends and implements procedures, strategies, equipment, or designs that will eliminate defects and improve equipment and system reliability. The **Wood River Refinery** is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
The base pay range for this role is $111,600 - $160,700 depending on a candidate's relevant work experience and education.

Rotating Equipment Reliability (RER) Analysts are responsible for coordinating and leading the machinery reliability program for their assigned process unit(s). These responsibilities include providing technical support/coverage for unplanned/emergency machinery situations, developing and implementing machinery solutions for the most critical machinery issues, developing long-term machinery reliability recommendations, conducting machinery diagnostic analysis and troubleshooting, and contributing to the implementation of system-wide reliability programs and strategies. The RER Analyst guides preventive and predictive machinery maintenance, determines root causes of machinery failures, and develops solutions to prevent a recurrence.
**Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:**
+ Critical Machinery Troubleshooting - Support maintenance and operations teams during troubleshooting efforts for high criticality equipment outages, focusing on restoring the equipment and plants to service while finding long-term fixes to prevent reoccurrences.
+ Record-Keeping - Document machinery history accurately and completely with an emphasis on root cause identification and scope of repairs. Maintains machinery files, prioritized worst actor lists, and surveillance information in an up-to-date fashion. Completes all associated paperwork (ACD, MOC, etc.) with design changes and upgrades.
+ Design Review - Analyzes machinery history for assigned areas and develops prioritized reliability improvement opportunities. Reviews new machinery installations to optimize machinery reliability through adherence to the Refinery and

+ Quality Assurance - Provides support to Construction Service Group and Zone Maintenance departments through the development and review of machinery repair checklists, preventive maintenance checklists, and maintenance procedures as necessary. Provides support to the Operations department through the development and review of operating procedures and checklists as necessary. Supports the safe commissioning of systems by ensuring that new or repaired equipment installations meet safety standards by participating in PSSRs.
+ Machinery Protection - Provides technical support to ensure that key mechanical equipment is adequately protected by reliable protection systems. Assists the Operations department in determining appropriate alarm and control limits for machinery.
+ Machinery Condition Monitoring and Surveillance - Performs routine condition monitoring and diagnostics of both "garden-variety" and major machinery, in addition to enhanced monitoring as dictated by machine condition. Performs visual surveillance of operating equipment and breakdown inspection of failed equipment. Evaluates machinery performance.
+ Tracks and ensures the quality of off-site shop repairs.

**Special Considerations:**

**Required Qualifications:**
+ High School Diploma or Equivalent
+ Qualified journeymen-level machinist with extensive craft knowledge.
+ 10+ years of experience with rotating equipment in the industrial or manufacturing industry. Including experience with compressors, turbines, motors, blowers, etc., and experience with machinery repair, diagnostics, and monitory systems.
+ Excellent Planning and Organizational Skills.
+ Valid Driver's license
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ 3+ years experience with formal Root Cause Failure Analysis techniques (5-Why, Why Trees, TapRoot, etc.)
+ 3+ years of experience with machinery condition monitoring and protection, including vibration analysis, oil condition monitoring, and machinery performance analysis.
+ Demonstrated strong interest in machinery analysis - focus on identification of potential reliability threats and on making improvements.
+ Capable of using databases and storing electronic data, as well understanding of Excel and Word computer programs.
+ Vibration analyst certification (Level 1 or higher) from an approved external body, including MOBIUS, The Vibration Institute, or Technical Associates of Charlotte.

**What's the role**
As a Staff Rotating Equipment Engineer, you will serve as the Engineering Technical Assurance single-point-of-contact for rotating equipment design, operation and maintenance within their assigned production area. The production area will be one of the following areas - Olefins or Refining.
**What you'll be doing**
+ Demonstrate a strong appreciation for referencing, interpreting, and applying DEPs, ASME, API, and other applicable standards
+ Stay abreast of new emerging technologies that positively impact the rotating equipment industry and strive to apply these technologies at the Norco Manufacturing Complex
+ Lead and/or participate in structured analysis processes such as root cause analysis (RCA), 5 causal reasoning questions (CRQ), Bad Actors Elimination, Risk Assessments, and Solution Development. Conduct failure analysis and problem solving of major rotating equipment problems. These issues are often initially identified as machinery problems but may involve complex systems evaluations. Recognize when it is necessary to branch out and seek assistance from other disciplines
+ Leverage Proactive Technical Monitoring (PTM) driven by "Find Small-Fix Small" mindset. Expand upon and apply existing PdM platforms such as vibration monitoring, compressor performance monitoring, lube oil condition monitoring, infrared thermography and Operator Task Management (OTM) to identify, analyze, predict and solve
+ Serve as a "champion" for strict adherence to the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) process by actively participating in RCM Studies, RCM Living Program Reviews and seeking other opportunities to build a more robust program
+ Develop and optimize detailed overhaul scope for rotating equipment.
+ Perform technical evaluation of repair crews and supervisors supplied by selected contractors
+ Review list of spare parts to be procured for overhauls, perform intake inspection of delivered spares
+ Inspection requires special tools. Determine layout of overhaul's working space with the focus on safe and productive execution

+ Strictly follow Shell's MOC processes/procedures to implement "change". The Staff Rotating Equipment Engineer will be called upon to lead and implement "change" on consistent basis, as equipment improvements frequently necessitate some form of "change". + Advance Rotating Equipment Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) performance improvements through focused efforts on "bad actors" with emphasis on pumps and mechanical seal systems

**What we need from you**

+ You must have College Degree in Mechanical Engineering combined with a minimum of 5 years' rotating equipment engineering/maintenance experience in the oil or petrochemical manufacturing facilities

+ Knowledge in the application of rotating equipment performance and condition monitoring methods

**What we offer**
The base salary range for this position is $122, 000 - $182, 000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
