+ Applied knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations.

Requirements:
+ 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in industrial construction or a related industry.
+ Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
+ In-depth knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
+ Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent strongly preferred.
+ Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive cultural change.

+ Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 50%).

Working Conditions:
Conditions include working in office, shop, busy traffic areas, warehouses, and undeveloped properties, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to safely access all areas of property, buildings, structures, rooftops and other elevated positions, as well as, confined spaces. Must be able to effectively use all required PPE equipment and lift up to fifty pounds. Strenuous physical demands are required to safely perform the essential functions associated with this position. Must be able to safely operate all involved equipment and tools. Must be capable of standing for long periods of time, bending consistently, working in confined spaces with limited access, on ladders, in personnel lifts, and working in awkward body positions.

Marathon Martinez Renewable Facility located in Martinez, California is seeking an Safety Professional to oversee Safety and Industrial Hygiene policies, programs, and practices. The available schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1, after hours calls are required several times a quarter and must support TAR/Outages at least three times a year. Business hour start time is 7 AM.
Key Responsibilities
+ Provide support as the point of contact person for an operations area team on all safety issues.
+ Support the refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure.
+ Provide safety related input in the development and review of operating procedures.
+ Serve as an advocate for first line employees to help them safely complete work.
+ Conduct exposure assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, indoor air quality investigations, response to employee concerns, air monitoring during emergency responses, and recommending corrective action to minimize exposure risk to employees and contractors during routine operations, turnarounds, and capital projects.
+ Collect, review, document, and summarize exposure assessment and monitoring data to comply with legal and corporate requirements utilizing the industrial hygiene databases. Identifies potential health stressors, and determines the need for, and effectiveness of, exposure control methods.
+ Prepare and maintain standards, procedures, and training for industrial hygiene related topics to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
+ Maintain and update exposure based medical surveillance programs.
+ Manage and maintain industrial hygiene equipment and associated software.
+ Conduct industrial hygiene audits following the MPC collaborative audit process.
+ Serve as Corporate and local subject matter expert in the areas of chemical, physical, and biological agent exposure control, emergency response air monitoring techniques, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Industrial Hygiene sampling equipment.
+ Responsible for management of all Industrial Hygiene programs.
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
+ Must have a High School diploma or GED required with minimum 8 years professional safety experience OR Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, safety, engineering, or a related science degree with minimum of 5 years of related experience.
+ Must be a highly motivated, customer centered, self-starter capable of working with limited direct oversight.
+ Must have excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
+ Must be able to think strategically and work towards continual improvement of internal processes.
+ Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
+ Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

*The safety engineer is responsible to:*

* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify engineering solutions to eliminate or reduce risk.
* Apply knowledge of regulatory safety requirements and safety consensus standards in the US and Canada related to machine and equipment safety including fall protection and forestry operations.
* Collaborate with Wood Products, Timberlands, and Health and Safety in the design of systems and procedures including:
a. Engineered fall protection systems
b. Machine guarding
c. Controlling hazardous energy on machinery, robotics and automated systems
d. Reviewing and approving acquisition of, and modifications to equipment
e. Support safety-in-design related to production, fire prevention and life safety, combustible dust, electrical safety, ergonomics, forestry, industrial hygiene and environmental initiatives
* Develop, implement, and maintain a prevention through design (PtD) company standard
* Work with capital project and engineering managers to provide design review and input on the front end of large projects. Assist with criteria for contractor construction safety requirements and controls.
* Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified safety and related operational needs including internally designed and fabricated equipment to meet standards, or source third-party resources as needed.
* Serve as a company fall protection Competent Person
* Serve as the company automation safety and robotics safety subject matter expert.
* Coordinate activities and advise the Wood Products Energy Safety Team, the Wood Products Electrical Safety Team and Innovation special projects.
* Develop next-generation manufacturing concepts and technology roadmap, including new technology benchmarking, evaluation, and deployment to align with company safety strategy & initiatives.
* Identify, formulate, and solve complex safety-related engineering problems by applying engineering, science, and mathematical principles.
* Communicate effectively with a range of audiences, both orally and in writing.
* Develop and use collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.
* Organize, manage, and track multiple detailed tasks and assignments with frequently changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
