**The opportunity**
This position will be responsible for several site wide EHS programs and processes to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with regulations. Responsibilities are within the EHS function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Less than 30% to different Florida locations. The incumbent must have a valid driver's license will be responsible for using their personal vehicle to get to these locations and the company will reimburse the mileage.

This position is responsible for managing health and safety programs for The Grainger College of Engineering and providing risk management guidance and technical support to stakeholders. The position will develop, implement, and manage policies, programs and procedures that promote a safe, responsible and healthful learning and work environment for all Grainger Engineering faculty, staff and students. The incumbent will implement campus safety programs and promote practices to achieve program excellence in an atmosphere of continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with the implementation and management of safety programs in Engineering Administration and Integrated Safety and Facility Management (ISFM) units.

  • Participate in safety audits of ISFM units conducted by DRS, Division of Safety and Compliance, and other campus safety departments. Follow up to ensure corrective actions requested by campus-level safety organizations are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Assist ISFM units with addressing safety issues identified in audits or reports by providing ongoing support for corrective actions such as arranging for industrial hygiene monitoring, selecting appropriate control measures, liaising with appropriate vendors for product research, reviewing facility and equipment designs, developing and reviewing standard operating procedures, and providing training.
  • Provide recommendations on the fit-out of new ISFM units’ spaces, facilities and/or equipment to ensure compliance with health and safety codes and regulations. Identify and communicate facility needs for new and/or existing equipment/procedures.
  • Update the Building Emergency Action Plans (BEAPs) of ISFM units as required by Campus Emergency Management.
  • Participate in safety inspections and audits of ISFM research and instructional spaces including student machine shops, student design spaces and experiential learning activity areas and create follow-up reports with recommended actions.
  • Implement safety programs in ISFM research and instructional spaces.
  • Develop, promote, facilitate, and conduct safety training in-person or online using available Learning Management Systems for ISFM unit students, faculty and staff.
  • Facilitate the creation of SOPs, JSAs, and other safety-related documentation for use in ISFM units’ research, instruction and daily operations.

The Safety Engineer is a resource for supporting the safety manager and project team in the successful completion of a construction project. **Position Description:**
The Safety Engineer is a resource for supporting the safety manager and project team in the successful completion of a construction project. The safety engineer exercises judgment and discretion in making safety-related recommendations, implementing safety policies and procedures, and handling a wide variety of safety matters in the field and office. This position assists the project team in planning, monitoring work activities and correcting unsafe acts or conditions. This is a safety sensitive position.
**Position Qualifications:**
+ A 4-year degree is preferred. Occupational Safety and Health degree suggested.
+ Valid Driver's License, required.
+ Strong communication skills.
+ Computer software - Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel based templates, Prolog, Primavera and AutoDesk Suite.
**Essential Duties:**
+ Effectively communicate with various stakeholders including Hensel Phelps staff, craft and trade partners.
+ Knowledgeable of the company safety and health program, owner requirements and applicable regulatory standards which may include EM 385-1-1.
+ Assist the project superintendent in the completion, maintenance and management of the accident prevention plan, safety management tool and crisis management plan.
+ Participate in the six-step quality control/safety process including reviewing the activity hazard analyses and participating in follow-up inspections.
+ Conduct project safety audits including project point files.
+ Assist with OSHA inspections, as necessary.
+ Assist with accidents and near miss events including investigations, injury management and claim reporting.
+ Assist in monitoring Hensel Phelps and trade partner safety performance.
+ Attend awareness and competent person level courses.
+ Learn the construction process and various roles and responsibilities of all positions.
**Physical Work Classification & Demands:**
Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

**Key Responsibilities**
+ Position will work closely with site management in RD&E and Manufacturing and other EHS staff to drive environmental, safety and health programs, ensure regulatory compliance and promote continuous improvement for the operations in Tempe and Chandler, AZ.
+ Ensures proper investigations of accident / incidents conducted for EH&S events and drives corrective actions. Act as liaison with regulatory authorities for safety requirements.
+ Track and trend EH&S related legislation and take appropriate action to comply with requirements. Communicates EH&S issues to all necessary management and employees. Generates necessary reports and documentation. Lead the investigation into accidents and provide feedback to relevant parties for corrective action.
+ Review and report EH&S progress and performance for assigned site/function.
+ Ensures compliance with required codes, standards, and regulations. Act as a liaison with local, regional, or federal regulatory authorities. Manage metrics and reporting.
+ Oversees accident / incident investigations and analyzes pertinent data. Documents results.
+ Performs a wide range of health and safety compliance duties including equipment and facility permitting, compliance auditing, management of change and chemical authorization approvals, record keeping and reporting, liaison with the local authorities.

+ Interfaces with internal and external customers regarding environmental, health and safety issues
+ Provide technical guidance on environmental, health and safety issues to the site manufacturing and engineering organizations and contribute to the development of site-wide EH&S standards and procedures.
+ Participate in the emergency response team and may involve after hours response.
+ Develops and conducts employee EH&S training.
+ Familiar with Benchmark Gensuite for incident management, site compliance and regulatory tracking.
+ Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
**Other Requirements:**
This position may require standing for extended periods of time, walking, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, lifting, the ability to distinguish between colors, the ability to work in an environment with noise that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise, and the use of hand and power tools.
