The Work
As an Environmental Safety and Health Engineer with Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS), your role is pivotal in ensuring a safe and environmentally responsible workplace. **Basic Qualifications:**
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
ESH experience in a manufacturing/industrial/military setting.
- Experience implementing, USDOD, USDOT, NFPA, ASTM, ANSI, OSHA, safety and health standards, EPA, state and local environmental regulations and programs;
- Experience with ergonomic principles to improve cultural awareness of the risks associated with improper workstation design and enhance the understanding of proactive measures.
- Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Skill in working independently and following through on assignments.

**Desired Skills:**

**Position Specific Description**
This position is essential for ensuring the fire safety compliance and effectiveness of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). As the Fire Safety subject matter expert (SME), you will play a critical role in reviewing safety reports, approving fire safety designs, and guiding adherence to relevant codes and standards. This includes engagement with national and local fire institutions and first responders, educating various stakeholders on BESS fire safety, and ensuring standardized safety measures across all company projects. You will also participate in industry committees, fostering the advancement of fire safety standards for battery energy storage systems. This is considered a critical support role to the Energy Storage Engineering team.
**Job Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Act as a Fire Safety subject matter expert (SME) for utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).
+ Review all UL 9540a reports from cell-, module-, and up through unit/installation-level, and provide direction.
+ Analyze, approve, and offer guidance toward the fire safety system designs of BESS manufacturers and projects.
+ Review, provide feedback, and offer guidance for all project- and product-level designs regarding BESS safety and code compliance, ensuring adherence to all applicable codes and standards, including UL, NFPA, and IFC.
+ Oversee all safety analyses for project-level reports, including hazard mitigation analysis (HMA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), heat flux analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations ensuring that all fire safety requirements are met or exceeded.
+ Initiate and foster relationships with national, state, and local fire institutions and first responders, including Fire Marshalls, Fire Departments, and educational institutions.
+ Travel to local jurisdictions to present BESS and fire safety to first responders, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), public utility commissions (PUCs), and community meetings, addressing and educating about the concerns of each stakeholder.
+ Work closely with local firefighters and first responders to educate them about the potential BESS hazards, hazard mitigation, fire safety system designs, sequences of operation, and emergency response/operation plans (ERP/EOPs).
+ Standardize information around BESS fire safety systems throughout the organization, ensuring consistent messaging in every region in which our projects are deployed.
+ Participate in task groups and technical committees for collaboration and direction of the advancement of industry codes and standards pertaining to the safety of battery energy storage systems.

About the team
Our Mission: The Global PSM team's mission is to ensure the safe design and reliable operation of facilities that contain or use Highly Hazardous Chemicals (HHCs). Our mission is to provide the necessary support so Amazon can achieve the 2040 Climate Pledge responsibly and in a manner that safeguards the safety of our associates and the community at large.
Program Strategy: The team's focus is on building a safety program that reduces the HHC risks at Amazon to as low as reasonably possible. To do so, we are working to establish process safety frameworks for our HHC processes: (1)Technology - Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Safe work practices (2) Facilities - Mechanical Integrity, Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews, Management of Change (MOC) (3) Personnel - Process Safety Training, Process Safety Incident Investigations (4) Audit and Assurance - Monitor program performance and maturation
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Process safety Engineering with 6+ years of industry experience
- 6+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience
- 6+ years of program or project management experience
- 6+ years of managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership experience
- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
- Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 + years of leadership experience in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or process safety engineering roles within the chemical, energy, or oil and gas sectors.
- Demonstrated adaptability in aligning approaches to meet the dynamic needs of customers, business objectives, program stakeholders, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Extensive expertise in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) methodologies, including HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA, and FTA, with strong proficiency in process safety software and mechanical integrity evaluation techniques.
- Advanced skills in incident investigation methodologies such as Apollo, Tap Root, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), complemented by expertise in auditing practices.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management capabilities, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organization with excellent writing skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of global regulatory frameworks, including OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, Seveso Directive/COMAH, and equivalent standards.
- Established track record in alternative energy fields, such as hydrogen, biofuels, and battery technologies, as well as managing highly hazardous chemicals.
- Significant experience in developing and implementing foundational elements of Process Safety Management Systems (PSMS) in accordance with Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).
- Consistently upholds high standards of performance, demonstrates strategic thinking, and achieves impactful results.
- Highly adept at self-managing priorities, meeting deadlines, and adjusting to shifting goals and priorities in dynamic environments.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
