- Plans, manages and directs plant sanitation procedures, programs and regulatory requirements, ensuring all plant equipment is clean and safe for production. Ensures compliance with all standard operating procedures.
- Develops, implements and communicates short-term and mid-term (1 - 2 years) business plans for the operations, ensuring associates understand the link to the plant’s, division’s and the corporation’s business plans and understand their role in accomplishing these plans.
- Assists in establishing the longer-term strategic plans for the plant.
- Develops operating policies and procedures as necessary.
- Oversees the tailoring and documenting of plant procedures related to approved cleaning chemicals and cleaning schedules.
- Mentors and motivates associates, providing training and development to optimize their performance and personal growth.
- Communicates performance standards to associates, recognizing and rewarding individual and team accomplishments and counseling performance problems. Ensures all associates have the resources and capabilities to effectively accomplish their responsibilities.
- May serve as a member of the plant’s Steering Team.
- Monitors rodent and insect control program, including periodically checking weekly rodent reports and traps.
- Monitors microbiological reports from the plant to determine whether cleaning procedures are being followed. Implements corrective action as necessary.
- Participates in regular meetings with plant management to discuss quality and sanitation improvements. Facilitates problem resolution related to sanitation and quality issues.
- Develops, maintains and reports required operational information to management.
- Ensures that all GMP and Safety standards are in compliance.
- Participates in weekly GMP, sanitation and safety inspections throughout the production departments and corrects, or issues work orders to correct, any identified deficiencies.
- Follows up on work orders, with the appropriate Associates to ensure expeditious performance of the requested work.
- Keeps abreast of latest manufacturing technologies, systems, and sanitation practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- BA/BS degree in Business, Supply Chain Operations, Food Science, Engineering or related field
- 5 years supervisory experience in a food-processing, pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing organization, preferably using computerized manufacturing equipment
- Working knowledge of FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation processes/procedures and HACCP
- Demonstrated understanding of production scheduling and other production variables such as run-rates, processing times, change-over times, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of efficient and safe manufacturing operations to include product and associate safety, OSHA standards, product quality (success rates), throughput delivery and cost control (minimizing downtime and waste, optimizing yield)
- Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, and train associates as well as plan, monitor and schedule work
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Demonstrated mechanical and spatial aptitude, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble equipment

Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Sanitation Manager with knowledge of USDA’s requirements, advanced cleaning programs, and chemical safety. Accountable for the cleanliness and inspection readiness of the facility, along with overseeing dishroom production and throughput. Spending 80% of the time assigning and verifying the completion of work. Training staff in new chemicals or equipment.
Essential Functions
- Oversee and manage the sanitation supervisors and employees to ensure compliance with sanitation SOPs.
- Responsible for the porters and keeping the units clean to USDA, and HACCP standards, able to pass pre-op requirements.
- Dishroom quality and quantity of throughput. Be ready to pass any FSQ, USDA, and FDA regulatory audit.
- Ensure the dish machine is manned properly and meets expected throughput and is staged in the proper location.
- Communicates with shifts and all internal departments to ensure required sanitation is complete at requested times.
- Knowledge of International trash procedures.
- Overseeing the chemical and cleaning supply budget.
- Schedules shifts and manages employee hours, including overtime.
- Follow up and update the master cleaning schedule.
- Understand temperature controls for both hot and cold.
- Ensures new hires are trained on all equipment thoroughly, including cleaning the work area after use.
- Responsible for dishroom quality control of all shifts.

Under the supervision of the Sr. Technical Quality Services Manager, the Sanitation Manager would have oversight of all Sanitation practices and policies for all TFI Facilities. This would be mainly a daytime schedule, with some off hours required as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sanitation Manager (FSQA)
- Develop, implement, and manage the plants sanitation programs for all Thomas Foods USA facilities
- Responsible for Creating and Maintaining Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS)
- Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Challenge all programs on a regular basis, maintaining a sense of urgency and being pro-active, with a continuous improvement mindset
- Maintain relevant sanitation knowledge base, working with suppliers of equipment, chemical companies, laboratories, and industry colleagues, organizations, and suppliers
- Ensure Thomas Foods USA sanitation programs and facilities are "best in class"

The ideal candidate will be a health and safety champion who is focused on people and quality standards.
**Detailed Responsibilities**
* Coaching operational leaders to ensure a thorough understanding of all safety and sanitation standards
* Completing regular team member training to continually enhance understanding of best practices and to address any emerging risks or issues
* Ensuring the accurate and thorough maintenance of all safety-related records such as temperature logs
* Completing periodic safety inspections and walk-throughs
* Manage the implementation of Levy's safety and sanitation program at the venue
* Work with the HR team to ensure timely completion and tracking of all mandatory safety and sanitation training
* Complete regular building inspections and walk-throughs with the operations team to identify any safety risks
* Take the lead in working with the Home Office Risk Management team in responding to or managing any safety and claims issues
* Working with operations and culinary teams to ensure the timely completion and storage of all mandatory records
* Ensure the timely completion and storage of all team member accident reports
* Complete regular 'Tool-box talk' trainings with hourly team members
* Work with the partner facilities team to address any joint concerns for team member safety
* Provide immediate coaching for any team members who are not following correct procedures
* Provides knowledgeable assistance in the reporting, monitoring, and settling of team members, foodborne illness, liquor liability and guest claims
* Work with local OSHA, sanitation or Steritech inspectors to support inspections or local initiatives
* Other duties as assigned
**Skills and Experience**
* Experience working in a fast-paced food and beverage environment
* Health/safety background is preferred
* ServSafe certification or similar is preferred
* Passionate about safety and sanitation
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Well organized, able to handle multiple tasks at the same time

**POSITION SUMMARY** **:**
**OVERVIEW:**
**The Sanitation Manager will provide resources to the sanitation activities at the Norwalk and Lenox Michael Foods, Inc. facilities. The Sanitation Manager will work directly with the Norwalk and Lenox Food Safety and Quality Managers to provide input on the sanitation activities of the two plants. They will protect the MFI brands through standardized and sustainable processes that will deliver sanitation programs that are efficient, effective and consistent. The sanitation Manager is a member of both plant leadership teams and will assist personnel involved with sanitation of their department/area to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures are followed.**
**This person will report to the FSQ Director for the Plants.**
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:**
1. **Demonstrate procedure and standards compliance - MFI, FSMA and USDA.**
2. **Performs duties as a subjent matter expert on MFI sanitation programs related to:**
1. **Cleaning the facility to a microbiological level**
2. **Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS)**
3. **Environmental cleaning**
4. **Operational sanitation**
5. **Special event cleaning - i.e. construction, incident response**
6. **Preoperational inspection programs**
7. **Plant janitorial/housekeeping**
3. **Work with chemical provider and plant leadership team to address any identified corrective actions.**
4. **Provide feedback into the performance of Sanitation Supervisors.**
5. **Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of cleaning chemistry (chemicals).**
6. **Develop and verify SSOP's and work instructions.**
7. **Assist with applying wet cleaning techniques following the 7 Steps of Wet Sanitation process.**
8. **Knowledge of Clean in Place (CIP) and Clean Out of Place (COP) cleaning techniques.**
9. **Assist in managing sanitation aspects of construction events.**
10. **Partners with facility FSQ Managers to drive food safety and sanitation objectives.**
11. **Participate as a technical subject matter expert during the Food Safety and Quality Surveys, when responding to regulatory non-compliances, when evaluating sanitation vendors, and during third party audits of sanitation practices.**
12. **Perform sanitation system validations at the plant sites, including CIP, allergen cleans, kosher cleans, and SSOP's.**
13. **Evaluate sanitation program execution including direct observation of the cleaning process and documentation review.**
14. **Manage plant zoning / separation.**
15. **Monitor personnel safety requirements and participate on plant safety teams.**
16. **Assist in facility budget development and execution related to sanitation.**
17. **Evaluate sanitary design within the facilities and assist in management of improvements with the plant team.**
18. **Provide research, guidance and technical support to plant personnel in areas of sanitation.**
19. **Manage cross-functional relationships and influence with operations, maintenance and engineering to drive food safety and sanitation objectives.**
20. **Maintain federal, state and local plant compliance in sanitation and thorough environmental non-compliance investigations, documentation, and reports.**
**Qualifications**
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:**
1. **Bachelor's of Science degree in Microbiology, Food Science/Food Technology or related field preferred.**
2. **A minimum of 7 years of experience in sanitation of a food manufacturing environment.**
3. **Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations.**
4. **Skills in identifying sanitation problems and providing workable solutions. RCA experience is helpful.**
5. **Must have a strong knowledge and understanding of Food Safety/HACCP/HARPC, GMP's, and Sanitary design/controls.**
6. **Knowledge of the 7 step wet clean process.**
