The Department of Earth System Science's (ESS) goal is to understand, predict, and respond to human-caused and natural environmental change at local to global scales. ESS includes a large and growing graduate student and postdoc community.
Earth System Science is seeking a full-time researcher to help with a variety of projects supporting research investigations related to fire ecology and biogeochemistry in the Pellegrini lab Environmental Science Lab Manager will work closely with the PI and members of the research group. The core goal is to coordinate and support the establishment of the Pellegrini lab at Stanford. This will involve developing analytical pipelines in the lab as well as coordinating permits, acquiring equipment and organizing the lab as well as support analytical work.
This position will involve a combination of field and laboratory measurements, operation of analytical equipment, methods development, and general project support. In addition, the candidate should be able to work independently and to analyze problems and create solutions to them. **Your Responsibilities will include*:**
+ Coordinating wet lab work (purchasing and setting up equipment, designing analytical pipelines, assisting with analyses).
+ Designing and executing field and lab studies focused on climate change and fire.
+ Conducting fieldwork as campaign-based trips (e.g., Sequoia and Kings Canyon, Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve, and Kruger National Park).
+ Analyzing and interpreting research data for purposes of modeling and presentation.
+ Overseeing and managing equipment for reliability.
+ Maintaining safety standards and protocols in the lab and in the field.

**To be successful in this position, you will need:**
+ Bachelors' degree and two years of experience in related scientific fields, or combination of education and relevant experience.
+ Demonstrated experience applying multidisciplinary scientific principles and practices to perform and assist with experimental design and coordinate laboratory activity.
+ Demonstrated experience with analysis and interpretation of research data, and ability to recognize irregularities and invalid results.
+ Demonstrated ability to organize data and develop models allowing for integration and display of data.
+ Basic experience with scientific software applications, systems, or programs relevant for the job.
+ Ability to coordinate and work with scientific or research staff and assist with technical procedures.
+ Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to provide information to scientific and research staff.

+ Background or degree in Earth System Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields.
+ Experience as a lab manager for an environmental science lab involving both field and lab work.

The expected pay range for this position is $38.55 to $46.68 per hour.

Position Summary
Provide laboratory materials for teaching purposes in a timely and organized manner. This is accomplished with the assistance of staff (mainly undergraduate student employees) who are under the direct supervision of this position. In order to provide laboratory materials, this position ensures the maintenance of preparation-room inventory supplies, that laboratory equipment used in the teaching laboratories is maintained in good working order, and that an adequate and healthy supply of plants, animals and bacterial cultures are available for instructional use. This position also works with instructors of laboratory courses to update laboratory exercises and test proposed new laboratory exercises. Additionally, the human anatomy and physiology class preparation (including management of human anatomical donors) is part of this position's portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
-Twelve college credit hours with passing grades in a physical and/or life science, which included laboratory procedures, such as anatomy, biology, botany, chemistry, general science, geology, physics, or zoology; AND
-One year of laboratory experience which provided a knowledge of laboratory testing and/or demonstration methods and techniques.

Position Summary

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities : Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position:
Sets up and breaks down equipment, chemicals and supplies for chemistry, biology, geology, and /or physics labs
Prepares molar solutions of acids by diluting concentrated solutions
Prepares media and grows bacteria
Calculates relative volumes of concentrated acid and water
Calculates required mass and prepares standard solutions of salt and bases
Handles preserved specimens, including cadavers
Ensures safe work environment by complying with OSHA regulations for handling hazardous materials
Follows waste regulations and proper procedures in the disposal of chemicals
Sterilizes equipment properly and cleans glassware using the appropriate solvents
Maintains fish tanks, reptile tanks, and plants as needed
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

The DSL will establish rapid testing capabilities for new technology and the translation of pioneering research into practical, enterprise-wide solutions.
In this role as Managing Lead Data Scientist for the DSL, you'll be entrusted with the crucial task of managing the DSL and devising AI strategy for the Data Science team. Your responsibilities will include identifying new AI capabilities, coming up with solutions to scale the Data Science team, leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence, to drive enterprise-wide innovation across various business lines and Guardian products. You'll collaborate with senior executives on high-impact high-visibility projects to deliver AI/ML solutions that will be market-tested and deployed to make a real difference to risk management and Guardian's overall financial performance. Innovation & Research

Stay current with advancements in machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and industry trends to identify and evaluate emerging capabilities and technologies.

Collaborate with academic and industry partners to develop and test novel AI/ML methods and approaches.

AI/ML Development

Build and lead experimentation efforts to validate the feasibility and impact of new data science techniques in real-world insurance use cases.

Apply AI/ML to unstructured data sources such as insurance contracts, medical records, sales notes, and customer service logs.

Operational Excellence

PhD with 6+ years of experience, Master's degree with 8+ years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied mathematics or related field

Extensive experience in deep learning models including Large Language Models (LLM) and Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Hands-on experience with GPU, distributed computing and applying parallelism to ML solutions
