• Participate in the design and organization of experiments in conjunction with the Tech Lead and/or R&D Team members. GENERAL SUMMARY
The R&D Temporary Scientist is responsible for performing laboratory experiments; pilot scale experiments; collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and compiling data and results under the supervision of the R&D group leader and scientists. Are you passionate about aquatic ecosystems and eager to support our state Aquatic Reserves Program? This position with the Aquatic Reserves Program works closely with other program staff and our Puget SoundCorps (PSC) team of Washington Conservation Corps interns to complete monitoring, research, and education and outreach on all eight Washington State Aquatic Reserves. Join our team and spend your days near the water on land or boat (or in the office), contributing to the protection of both marine and freshwater ecosystems.
Duties
Responsibilities:
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Aquatic Reserves Technician will primarily assist the Team Lead in supporting the Puget SoundCorps in conducting research and monitoring of Aquatic Reserves. In this role, you will assist with fieldwork and restoration, help train and support annual PSC cohorts, and provide general program support.
Work closely with the Team Lead and PSC track pre- and post-fieldwork tasks to ensure completion, fieldwork preparedness, and general team organization.
- Work with PSC to ensure completion, upload, and/or correct filing of datasheets, photos, and GPS points using GIS, Excel, Survey 123, and the internal storage system.
- Assist with annual PSC training and the use of field monitoring tools (GPS, YSI, Loggers, etc.).
- Assist with minor purchases, reservations, and travel coordination.
- Regularly attend weekly staff and PSC team meetings.
- Assist with maintaining gear storage spaces.
- Intertidal and subtidal seagrass monitoring using a variety of protocols and tools, including remote operating systems.
- Kelp monitoring using a variety of methods, including kayak surveys and remote operating systems.
- Larval crab light trap monitoring, in collaboration with partner organizations.
- European green crab early detection monitoring and trapping support, by land and boat.
- Intertidal sediment sampling and associated lab processing.
- Kayak-based amphibian surveys at our freshwater reserve.
- Phytoplankton and water quality monitoring at our freshwater reserve.
- Restoration and stewardship activities, including weed pulling, beach cleanups, etc.
- Laboratory and microscope use, as needed for sample processing.
- Other fieldwork as new projects arise.
- Assist with monthly vehicle reports and credit card logs.
- Support in various outreach and program projects such as creating social media content, updating signage on reserves, attending outreach events, writing research and project summaries for internal and external audiences, etc.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

Holidays
Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
Note: Employees who are members of certain Unions may be entitled to additional personal leave day(s), please refer to position specific Collective Bargaining Agreements for more information.
Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.
Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Sick Leave
Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.
Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
Vacation (Annual Leave)
Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.
Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.
Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC .
Note: Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave.
Military Leave
Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.
Bereavement Leave

Job Duties:
As a Scientific Technician , you will:
- Respond to customer requests and assemble and ship sample collection kits.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Ensure operation of custom automated laboratory equipment by completing preventative and corrective maintenance in accordance with IDT's quality policyTroubleshoots mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, fluidic, and optical devices/systems, as well as PLC controlled systems.Practices safe working habits, follows all IDT safety policies, identifies, corrects, and reports potential safety hazards.
The essential requirements of the job include:
• High School diploma or GED
• Proficiency in a variety of PC software programs with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Knowledge and use of a variety of hand tools
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
• Reading and interpreting blue prints and equipment schematics
• Previous laboratory and chemical handling experience

The Lab Support Operator I (Laboratory Technician) is responsible for a variety of tasks within the manufacturing process, including preparing work orders to pack chromatography columns, assembling products, maintaining optimal stock levels, supplying solvents and hardware, and manufacturing security guard cartridges of various types and sizes and recycling failed columns.
This position reports to the Production Manager and is part of the Manufacturing & Operations located in Torrance, CA and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Be cross trained to be working in one of the following departments which you will rotate as needed:
Sorbent Room - Accurately weigh and label sorbents; pick appropriate empty column assemblies (order from product assembly if needed).
Product Assembly - Assembly of empty column hardware (end fittings, frits, and tubing).
Security Guard - Pack different sorbents in security guard hardware.
Recycling - Unpack columns and recycle materials according to procedure.
The essential requirements of the role include:
High School diploma + 1 year of experience (preferred)
Requires analytical thinking, problem solving, attention to detail, pay specific attention to tasks.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Assure inventory accuracy via timely transactions, performs cycle counts under supervision.
Follow written instructions (SOP) for all critical processes.
