In this role, there will be the opportunity to:

  • Answer phones, scan documents, check patients in and out, and assist with work queues as needed.

The Scribe Tech is responsible for:

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

The essential functions of a Scribe Tech are:

  • Assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures, which may include but is not limited to phlebotomy, Urine Drug Screens, rapid point of care testing, UA, EKG, procedure set ups, etc.
  • Ensuring Department of Health (DOH) compliance of site lab and exam rooms which may include but is not limited to logbook maintenance, checking for expired medications and supplies, proper handling of specimens etc.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, x-rays or other facilities on site as needed.
  • Ability to maintain quick pace in fast paced urgent care facility for the duration of scheduled shift (8-12 hours except for meals/break time).

What you need to excel as a medical scribe

  • No previous experience needed

Medical Scribe Job Description

  • Accompany providers during patient visits to assist in documenting the provider assessment and exam
  • Gain substantial knowledge in how to appropriately document patient history, physical exams, assessments, diagnostic results, medical procedures, treatment plans, medical opinions of consultants, diagnoses, medication/prescription information, and follow-up instructions
  • Navigate the facility computer system and electronic medical record
  • Monitor pending labs and radiology orders for results to help guide patient care
  • Review past history and test results on patients which are critical in driving medical decisions by your provider

Hours: 32 hours per week- Tuesday-Friday 8a-5p (Monday as needed)

Location: Employee will work between the 3 work locations

Pay rate: $20 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Work with the ortho surgeons, pre-charting and pulling medical records, and working with the surgeon to take notes during dictations.
  • Accompany clinician into patient exam areas for the purpose of accurately documenting the clinician's encounter with the patient as described by the clinician.
  • Seek real-time clarification of all information entered into the medical record.
  • List diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as mentioned by the clinician.
  • Enter orders, including diagnostic testing and medications which are pended and require clinician approval to activate.
  • Document procedures performed and described by the clinician. Invoke the organizations approved scribe statement for each clinical note.
  • Complete all scribe duties before leaving the patient care area.
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Participate in clinical research activity at the direction of the clinician.
  • Perform literature searches and data bases searches to gain data required for projects.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Human Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology, Nursing, or related discipline
  • Six months experience as a medical scribe, medical transcriptionist, or other related job in a medical office
  • EPIC knowledge/experience
