The **Seamstress/Seamster** will fit, mark, alter, and repair clothing, take measurements from or fit garment to customer to determine type and extent of cutting required, and mark the garment accordingly.
**Responsibilities**
+ Maintain adequate stock of supplies, equipment, and working area, and may supervise activities of sewing machine operator or other related workers.
+ Complete tailoring alterations to trousers and adjust the sleeve length of coats.
+ Alter clothing to fit individual customers or repair defective garments, following alteration or repair tags or marks on garments: Examines tag or garment to ascertain necessary alterations.
+ Remove stitches from garment, using ripper or razor blade.
+ Shorten or lengthen sleeves and legs, expand or narrow waist and chest, raise or lower collar, and insert or eliminate padding in shoulders while maintaining drape and proportions of garment.
+ Trims excess material, using scissors.
+ Resews garment, using needle and thread or sewing machine.
+ Repairs or replaces defective garment parts, such as pockets, pocket flaps, and coat linings.
+ May fit garments on customer to determine required alterations.
+ Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**
+ High School diploma or GED
+ Minimum of six (6) months of related work experience.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

+ Ability to follow oral and written directions.
+ Knowledge of fabrics and construction methods.

Duties
The primary responsibilities of a Sample Maker revolve around sewing a sample according to specification and a pattern. Duties include operating and understanding sewing machine and adaptors, ensuring the machinery is in working order. Additionally, Sample Makers are expected to monitor and apply the quality of materials and trims, aligning them with industry standards. They must efficiently manage sample sewing process in communication with the pattern maker and technical designer.
- Interpret design specifications and technical drawings, to create accurate high-quality samples that meet or exceed our quality standards
- Able to sew a variety of materials, knits and woven, adopt machine and stitches as needed.
- Able to utilize tools, and techniques to fabricate prototypes, ensuring they adhere to design specifications and production requirements.
- Experience with cover stitch, overlock, flatlock, all machine and stitches type used in knits and women fabrics, meeting desired construction and finishes.
- Collaborate closely with pattern maker, technical designers and manager to provide feedback, troubleshoot issues, and refine the design, patterns, and sewing constructions as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of our sample-making processes.

**Compensation**
A reasonable estimate of base salary for this role ranges between $17.05 - $21.33/Hour.
