Position Description/Job Summary:
Counselors will demonstrate the ability to establish productive relationships with students, parents, staff and community members. Counselors will provide individual and group counseling to students along with performing a variety of additional roles and functions.
Coordinate Comprehensive School Counseling Program
- Provides counseling services for all students
- Modifies counseling procedures to meet various student needs
- Seeks to develop in students increased competency in decision-making and problem-solving
- Provides activities to help students understand themselves and their relationships with others
- Provides opportunities for individual and/or group counseling for students
- Gathers, interprets, and uses data regarding students as part of the counseling process
- Assists students in the development of positive and realistic self-concepts
- Interprets data from the cumulative records for students, their parents, and others who are professionally concerned as prescribed by federal, state and school board policies
- Provides mental health assessments as needed
- Assess students and provide resources for students and families
- Serve on school crisis team
- Leads student support interventions before, during and after crisis situations
- Attend required threat assessment training as offered
- Participate in all threat assessments in assigned schools
- Attend core team meetings to discuss attendance, at risk students, bullying and any additional student needs
- Follow up on recommendations/action plan
- Communicate with parents and staff as needed to support students
- Disseminates to students and/or parents current information on postsecondary educational and career opportunities
- Provides activities for students and teachers in developing job-seeking and job-holding skills
- Assists with the coordination and interpretation of standardized testing
- Works with teachers and administrators to assist with the placement of students in appropriate courses and grade levels
- Refers parents to resources available both within and outside of the school system
- Attend Counselor meetings
- Attend staff trainings
- Attend Child Study, 504, and IEP meetings as requested
- Perform other duties as requested by Central Counseling
- Comply with confidentiality regulations and laws
- Follow all RCPS policies and procedures
Minimum Job Requirements/Qualifications :
Be able to perform multiple, highly complex technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions; Be able to establish professional relationships and communicate effectively with administration, faculty, and parents; Be able to set priorities and meet deadlines; Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).

Shoreline Christian School is seeking a part-time Secondary School Counselor to provide social and emotional support for students in grades 6-12 during a maternity leave. This role offers the opportunity to serve middle and high school students in a Christ-centered environment, helping them discover their God-given gifts and abilities while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. 15 - 20 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct counseling support to students individually and in small groups to address social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
- Implement short-term crisis intervention plans as needed.
- Consult and collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators; refer students to outside services when appropriate.
- Support teachers and staff in identifying student needs and developing effective intervention strategies.
- Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with families regarding student progress, concerns, and support strategies (including High School & Beyond plans).
- Support teacher implementation of the Character Strong curriculum in classrooms on a monthly basis.
- Participate in team meetings, contributing to prevention and intervention planning.
- Supervise students during scheduled hallway and lunch duty.
- Education: Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience working with secondary students in a counseling role strongly preferred.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION - SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Basic Functions:
The School Counselor plans and administers the guidance program to provide support services for students to successfully complete instructional programs and classroom operations in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration, Board of Directors, state and federal agencies. He/she will assist the staff in creating an environment that encourages learning, motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to establish and continue a firm foundation to perpetuate the appropriate learning experience through the post secondary education and/or career opportunities. The School Counselor will utilize all resources available to establish a cooperative relationship with parents, students, staff members and administrators to support each student's opportunity to learn and grow in educational and life experiences.
The position of School Counselor is a 188-day position and shall include active participation in the school's operation to support a positive learning environment. The position reports to and is evaluated annually by the Building Principal and/or his/her designee.
Education and Experience:
The requirements for this position are a minimum of a master's degree and appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) K-12 school counselor certification and qualifications prescribed by law, to include ESSA. Prior experience working with students who have experienced trauma in their lives, and prior experience with small group and individual counseling utilizing best practice and research based curriculums, is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The School Counselor will demonstrate proficiency with the WASD educational curriculum, benchmarks, PA standards, and appropriate assessment. He/she will strengthen his/her abilities by reviewing innovative programs supported by best practice and research. The School Counselor will have the ability to assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through interpretation of individualized standardized test scores, educational performance and other pertinent data. He/she will assist students in developing education and occupation plans based upon student performance and demonstrated abilities.
The School Counselor must be able to articulate the school and district goals regarding the District's educational programs to staff, students, parents, and community members. He/she must possess the knowledge, pedagogical abilities and attitudes necessary to be a successful scholar, counselor and agent for curriculum enhancement and change. The School Counselor must be aware of and comfortable using computer and technological applications as educational tools, to include using e-mail, Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, and curriculum based software.

- Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data. (E)
