Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy SEM Intern to support our paid search team. This role offers hands-on experience in Google Ads campaign management, keyword research, and performance optimization, while leveraging AI tools to streamline processes. The ideal candidate is curious, data-driven, and eager to learn advanced search marketing strategies.
This is a fall semester-long internship lasting approximately four months. Interns work approximately 15 hours per week with flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments. We prefer candidates located in the NYC metropolitan area who can work in-office 2-3 days per week. This is an hourly paid position following NYC minimum wage requirements. Exceptional interns may be considered for possible extension to the spring semester.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct keyword research using tools like Google Ads Keyword Planner or SEMrush.
- Review Search Query Reports to identify negative keywords and new targeting opportunities.
- Analyze competitors' ad copy, keywords, and landing pages.
- Monitor seasonality trends and inform campaign adjustments.
- Draft responsive search ad (RSA) copy following internal best practices.
- Manage and test ad extensions (sitelinks, callouts, snippets).

- Pay Rate: $35-$40/hr depending on experience
- Execute routine campaign optimizations to support SEM performance goals.
- Manage budget updates for campaigns (weekly/bi-weekly).
- Conduct weekly feed checks in Google Merchant Center.
- Account support via Search Ads 360 (SA360).
- Process co-op submissions (monthly).
- Respond to store and field-level ad hoc requests.
- Collaborate with internal team via documentation and existing SOPs/training materials.
- Must be able to work independently and manage updates efficiently with minimal oversight.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Paid Search (Google Ads/SA360); agency experience preferred.
- Strong familiarity with Search Ads 360.
- Google Merchant Center, and dynamic feed setups experience is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills for operating in a lean, part-time capacity.
- Automotive industry or multi-location account experience is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working independently with documented processes.
- Google Ads certification preferred.

Our SEM Specialists are our resident paid search experts, responsible for keeping on top of trends, developments, and best practices and putting them to optimal use for each client's paid search campaigns across our digital team.
You will work with brand-name automotive OEMS and dealer groups who demand - and recognize - excellence. You'll be part of a cross-functional team working together to make sure client needs are anticipated and met through execution.
As an SEM Specialist, you will be responsible for the following key areas: 1) design, implementation, and execution of paid search strategy 2) Day-to-day optimization of campaigns 3) Implementation of ad-hoc client requests 4) Acting as a paid search POC for your assigned clients 5) project management on accounts you own.
You will need to have more than SEM experience; you will need to have the drive to work independently and the communication skills to work as part of a thriving team.
Responsibilities
- Driving paid search strategy for your clients
- Design, implementation, and execution of your clients paid search campaigns
- Daily optimization efforts to achieve your client's performance targets & goals
- Campaign monitoring to ensure the account is pacing well relative to budgets and targets
- Implementing testing initiatives in key areas such as ad creatives, audience segmentation, placements, and networks
- Design & implementation of ad-hoc client requests for campaign builds, creative rollouts, reporting requests and other needs
- Configure required campaign templates to streamline dynamic campaign creation & maintenance
- Activate relevant audiences supplied by client
- Work and prioritize within timelines; coordinate work-steams across teams and channels
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders
- Stay current with Google and Facebook new features and best practices.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years in experience working in Paid Search strategy and execution
- Certifications within Google Ads and Bing is required
- Knowledge of 3rd party bid-management tools
- Experience w/call tracking systems & implementations
- Proven track-record: past projects were consistently successful (i.e., met the consumer's need, met business objectives, delivered on-time with no/few surprises)
- Ability to grasp complex concepts and systems quickly, and express them in simple ways
- Working experience within Google Tag Manager & Google Analytics for paid media marketing objectives
- Experience working within a task manager system is highly preferred
- Deadline and detail oriented, with the ability to handle multi-faceted task lists
- Critical thinking and quantitative analytical skills
- Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Excellent verbal and written skills
