Summary:

The Curriculum Specialist is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and updating institutional curricular documentation to ensure alignment with academic models and quality standards. This role requires close collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), program champions/managers, instructional designers, and other members of the Academic Development team. The Curriculum Specialist should have expertise in curriculum development, learning theories, instructional design models, and verb taxonomies.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Develop key academic documents such as learning outcomes, alignment matrices, specification sheets, and related materials for academic programs and courses

• Ensure alignment between competencies, expected learning outcomes, instructional activities, and institutional goals according to the current educational model

• Collaborate with SMEs, program champions, and academic leaders in designing and revising curricula, including pre/post-tests and other academic documents

• Coordinate with the institutional library to identify appropriate textbooks and learning resources for course integration

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of curricular documents in compliance with institutional guidelines and standards

• Research supplementary resources that support the curriculum activities

• Participate in meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative workgroups to ensure the quality and consistency of deliverables

• Meet established timelines and deadlines for the submission of curriculum products

• Provide workshops or training on curriculum, syllabi, and other curriculum processes

Education/Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Education, or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in curriculum development or related role.
• Strong understanding of learning theories, instructional design models, and verb taxonomies.
• Availability to work irregular hours.
• Ability to plan and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals.
• Knowledge and use of information systems and technology required for the position.

Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:    

The Curriculum Specialist works in a center to ensure quality education standards; acts as a role model in regard to teaching techniques, discipline and professional growth and development; acts as a liaison between teaching staff and center management; maintains center resource and supply areas. Serves as a member of the Center Management Team, taking responsibility for center operations in the absence of the Center Director and Family Support Coach.

Provides onsite staff training and assists with area and agency wide training.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Routinely observes in classroom using Sheltering Arms classroom observation forms, monthly focus checklists, NAEYC, ITERS, ECERS, CLASS, RRFTS and other related curriculum observation checklists.
2. Assists teachers in self-evaluation and goal setting, follows up on previous goals.
3. Serves as a mentor teacher working in classrooms when there is a teacher shortage or need for technical assistance.
4. Models and provides coaching for developmentally appropriate practice for teachers in the classrooms.
5. Meets regularly as part of the management team to share concerns and progress.
6. Conducts lead teacher meetings at least twice a month.
7. Assists Center Director in establishing agenda for staff meeting.
8. Assists Center Director and Lead Teachers in conducting new teacher orientation.
9. Assists Center Director with classroom teacher performance appraisals.
10. Checks lesson plans weekly and gives feedback and approval.
11. Works one-on-one with classroom staff to foster continued professional growth and development.
12. Keeps track of educational materials and makes them available to staff as needed (resource books, training manuals, etc.)
13. Ensures that resource and supply areas are organized and orderly.
14. Checks classroom inventories and assists Center Director in ordering appropriate materials.
15. Provides onsite staff training for teachers and parents and assists with area and agency training.
16. Follows up with teachers who have received training to ensure implementation in the classroom.
17. Trains staff on and monitors developmental assessment data entry and use in weekly lesson plans.
18. Meets regularly with Director Of Curriculum and Instruction to share curriculum concerns and assist in development of curriculum materials necessary for the implementation of the educational program.
19. Participates in staff and parent meetings, as needed.
20. Keeps informed of current information on child development by reading and attending conferences and workshops.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Must be able to visually observe and hear children from all areas of the classroom and playground from a distance of at least 70 feet.
• High degree of oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to hear children from a distance of at least 70 feet.
• Must be able to sit on floor and interact with children.
• Minimum of five years classroom experience with children birth to five.
• Two years of experience supervising adults in a child care & education setting.
• Experience with adult education.
• Willingness to work as a team member of a team.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and three years administrative or supervisory experience.
• Masters in Early Childhood Education or closely related field and 1 year administrative or supervisory experience.
