The Director of Model Risk Management (MRM) leads the enterprise-wide Model Risk Management program, ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance (SR 11-7, OCC ), and credible challenge across all model-related activities. This role aligns model risk strategy with business growth, digital transformation, and AI/ML adoption. Additional responsibilities include oversight of internal model reviews, third-party validations relationships, contributions to strategic planning and merger and acquisition (M&A) due diligence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Program Leadership & Governance
    • Design, implement, and continuously enhance the Model Risk Management program, including frameworks, policies, procedures, standards, and technology tools.
    • Ensure the MRM program is appropriately scaled to the bank’s size, complexity, and risk profile.
    • Align the enterprise-wide model risk strategy with business growth objectives, digital transformation initiatives, and the adoption of artificial ineligence (AI) technologies.
    • Lead the development and execution of the annual MRM plan, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation for validations, reviews, and performance monitoring.
    • Own and maintain the enterprise model risk dashboard, including the definition and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) for model performance, validation quality, and risk mitigation.
    • Participate in strategic planning and M&A due diligence activities, providing model risk insights to support enterprise-level decision-making.
  • Third-Party Validation Oversight
    • Manage second-line vendor relationships for model validation, including proposals, statements of work, quality control, and payment processing.
    • Conduct due diligence and risk assessments of third-party validators in alignment with the bank’s third-party risk management framework.
  • Internal Review & Challenge
    • Apply risk-based judgment to evaluate model appropriateness, complexity, and potential impact on business decisions, and determine the level of validation required.
    • Oversee annual internal reviews of all models, ensuring performance monitoring, documentation updates, and issue remediation are completed timely and effectively.
    • Provide independent challenge to model owners and users, ensuring model use is appropriate and risks are well understood.
  • Reporting & Regulatory Engagement
    • Serve as primary liaison with regulators on model risk topics, including emerging regulatory trends (e.g., AI governance, climate risk modeling).
    • Monitor emerging model risks and ensure timely escalation and mitigation.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Partner with business lines, support functions, model users, and external experts to ensure models meet quality standards and regulatory expectations.
    • Facilitate onboarding, testing, documentation, and offboarding of models using sound analytical methodologies.
  • Team Leadership
    • Develop and sustain a model risk talent pipeline, including internships, rotational programs, and succession planning.
    • Foster a culture of proactive risk management and continuous improvement.
  • Committee Participation
    • Serve as a member of key risk committees, including but not limited to: Operational Risk Committee, Asset Liability Committee, Credit Policy Management Committee, and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Committee.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Reassess the maturity and effectiveness of the MRM program through peer benchmarking, ongoing education, and regulatory feedback.
    • Conduct ad-hoc risk analyses as requested by the Chief Risk Officer or ERM Committee.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, risk management, economics, law, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in model governance, validation, performance monitoring, and regulatory compliance (e.g., SR 11-7, OCC ).
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of banking experience, with demonstrated exposure to risk management, model governance, or related disciplines across multiple lines of business.

The following would be a plus:

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative or risk-related discipline.
  • Over ten (10) years of experience in model risk management, including having led or significantly contributed to a mature MRM program.
  • Over ten (10) years of banking experience within mid-to-large size institutions, including direct involvement in enterprise risk, regulatory engagement, and strategic planning.

Prior experience managing RCM vendors is strongly desired. The Leader will collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Operations (Service Delivery) and Client Delivery Leaders to ensure strategic partners consistently deliver excellence under the Healthrise brand.

The Cash Posting / Cash Applications Leader is a critical role within Healthrise, responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient posting of patient and insurance payments across our hospital and health system clients. This leader will oversee a large operational team while also serving as the visionary for how Healthrise builds, scales, and optimizes this program into a true differentiator within our RCMS division.


Success in this role requires deep subject matter expertise in cash posting, strong operational leadership across domestic and offshore teams, and the ability to partner with senior leaders to define the future-state strategy. This leader must not only deliver flawless execution but also build scalable frameworks that improve accuracy, efficiency, and overall client outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership
    • Lead, manage, and develop a large team of cash posting and cash applications staff across both domestic and offshore locations, supporting multiple client organizations simultaneously.
    • Ensure daily posting activities are executed with accuracy, timeliness, and compliance to each client’s standards and requirements.
    • Oversee reconciliation processes to ensure all payments, adjustments, and denials are accurately recorded and balanced against deposits. Ensure unapplied cash resolution standards are adhered to and resolved appropriately and effectively manage month end processes in coordination with the client’s standards.
    • Oversee daily activities of credits team and ensure compliance with credit balances for all payors, including governmental payors, and reporting requirements are maintained.
    • Drive accountability against key SLAs and KPIs, including turnaround times, accuracy rates, and error reduction.
  • Performance Oversight and Governance
    • Own the performance of the cash posting function across all clients, ensuring outcomes align with Healthrise standards and contracted SLAs.
    • Monitor KPIs and proactively identify underperformance, driving timely resolution before client impact occurs.
    • Serve as the escalation point for cash posting concerns raised by Client Delivery Leaders, addressing issues effectively and decisively.
    • Lead regular performance reviews with RCMS leadership, identifying risks, recommending improvements, and ensuring continuous optimization.
  • Program Development & Optimization
    • Partner with Senior RCMS Operational Leaders to design a best-in-class cash posting program tailored to Healthrise’s client base and growth objectives.
    • Act as the visionary for how the cash posting function evolves, defining the roadmap, operating model, and future-state structure to support scale.
    • Collaborate with technology teams to drive automation, RPA, and workflow enhancements within internal systems and client EHR platforms (Epic, Oracle, Meditech, etc.).
    • Establish scalable frameworks, policies, and training programs to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across multiple clients.
  • Client Partnership & Governance
    • Act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to clients on cash posting and reconciliation best practices.
    • Participate in client governance meetings, providing transparency on performance, challenges, and improvement initiatives.
    • Build strong credibility with hospital finance and revenue cycle leaders through disciplined execution, thought leadership, and proactive communication.



Requirements:
  • Proven leadership experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, specifically in cash posting, cash applications, or payment reconciliation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Epic and its cash posting/reconciliation modules, with ability to optimize workflows within Epic environments.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of banking and merchant services including processor/gateway relationships and IT/PCI security.
  • Extensive experience managing both domestic and offshore teams, ensuring seamless coordination and performance across geographies. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Track record of implementing scalable frameworks, driving automation, and improving efficiency within cash posting operations.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to set a long-term vision while maintaining disciplined focus on day-to-day performance.
  • Excellent client-facing skills, with proven ability to communicate effectively with CFOs, revenue cycle VPs, and finance leaders and ability to provide reporting and audit support as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to expand client engagements by leveraging scalable frameworks, delivering enhanced value for both clients and Healthrise.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certifications (CRCR, HFMA, etc.) preferred.
