Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

- Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) is highly desirable.

Position Summary
Plans, directs, coordinates, monitors, and executes activities related to ensuring the quality of the structural steel fabrication. Operates with a sense of urgency and purpose to ensure that fabrication work is completed according to established quality standards, applicable specifications, and regulatory requirements. Works with company-wide QC team to establish quality standards and procedures, and conduct quality improvement studies and projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Responsible for overall management of the quality function at assigned plant
* Manage established quality program to ensure that the fabricated steel will fit as planned, meets customer specifications, & delivery schedules
* Work closely with Production Management/Project Management to ensure appropriate quality procedures are complied with & accurate documentation is maintained on every project
* Responsible for administering the AISC program at assigned plant, ensure ALL employees understand & follow AISC standards, & shop is prepared & passes AISC audits
* Supervise QC Inspectors
* Provide assistance and/or training where appropriate, counsel employees on improving performance, conduct performance appraisals, & initiate disciplinary action when necessary
* Determine appropriate course of action by analyzing issues, working closely with appropriate Veritas Steel employees & owner's engineers to determine course of action & accountability
* Work closely with DOT Inspectors to schedule required inspection, ensure that appropriate documentation is completed & filed in a timely manner
* Establish & maintain professional working relationships with customer engineers & DOT representatives
* Keep informed on progress of current & future projects by attending regular production meetings
* Manage welder certification program, ensure welders qualified per owner's requirements, keep appropriate records
* Read new project specifications; plan & conduct prefabrication meetings on the new projects according to established company quality policies, customer, DOT, & Industry standard requirements; & ensure welding procedures, PQRs, WPSs, & qualified welders are tested per customer requirements
* Supervise hold point status, review inspection reports, and maintain up to date logs of project inspection progress
* Oversee tool calibration program
* Perform inspection of welds, dimensions, materials, fasteners, and coatings
* Resolve customer concerns in a timely manner
* Membership of the Plant Leadership team, involved in planning and operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Quality Control Manager will be responsible for coordinating, overseeing, implementing, and documenting the Quality Control Program.
Salary Range: $96,000- $123,000/ Yearly/ Exempt

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
* Responsible for managing the quality control for day-to-day site assessment operations.
* Participates and develops the training of employees on QC policies, procedures, and regulations.
* Ensures contract compliance with all tasks being performed and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines for accurate reporting.
* Ability to accurately enter data into software applications.
* Ability to work as part of a team with limited supervision.
* Lead and attend QC & operations meetings.
* Collaborate with other QC Specialists to maintain project progress, ensuring timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
* Support project documentation and reporting, including creating and maintaining project charters, work breakdown structures, and project status reports.
* Ensure adherence to project management methodologies, processes, and best practices.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective coordination and communication among project stakeholders.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the implementation of efficiency initiatives.
* Handle escalated project-related issues and conflicts, working towards resolution and ensuring customer satisfaction.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
* High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
* Familiar with requirements of USACE EM 385-1-1, and experience in the areas of hazard identification, safety compliance, and sustainability.
* Seven years of combined experience as a Superintendent, QC Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager or Project Engineer on similar size and type construction contracts which included the major trades that are part of this contract, and at least two years' experience as a QC Manager.
* Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record.
* Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
* U.S. Citizenship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead planning, development, and implementation of the Quality Management Plan and system for all work divisions from notice to proceed through final customer acceptance.
Maintain, monitor and update the USACE RMS system. Finalize and load pay requests into RMS.
Establish and lead quality control initiatives, activities, and corrective actions.
Review project specifications for project quality requirements.
Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications by direct review and by leveraging the knowledge and experience of others in the project team when necessary.
Host and document weekly QC meetings with the superintendent and provide written minutes as described in project contract documents.
Manage Non-Conformance Notices and the Request for Information process though corrective action.
Manage and resolve issues in conjunction with the project superintendent.
Quality control daily reports that reinforce activities that are being constructed in conformance with each specific project's established standard and constructively confronts non-conformances to produce the desired outcome in a timely manner.
Create, update and maintain the project submittal log and all other project specific quality control reports.
Conduct preparatory, initial and follow up meetings to establish an understanding of the standards of care desired for each definable feature of work. Verify that checklists are being used and signed off prior to the placement of concrete, steel and other similar items of work.
Verify and document that all materials received for the project are in conformance with the approved submittal, are handled and stored appropriately and are acceptable for use in the project.
Conduct preconstruction meetings with new and existing subcontractors and the superintendent at least two days prior to the start of each new phase of the work to discuss issues that affect quality. Document these meetings in the daily QC report and Preparatory Phase reports.
Schedule, document the results of, and maintain a log of all code and independent inspections that are required. Clearly document, correct and re-inspect all non-conformances prior to covering up work.
Conduct periodic follow up inspections to verify that work is proceeding with the contract documents and the approved submittals. (Desired results come from what is inspected, not what is expected.)
Coordinate and document the testing and commissioning of building systems.
Document and distribute pre-punch lists, punch lists and the completion of these lists.
Document final inspections, certificates of occupancy and acceptance of the works and various phases thereof.
Maintain the project "as-built" drawings on a daily basis.
Assemble and forward project closeout documents that include O
M manuals, as-builts and warranties.
Stop work if necessary to resolve matters that affect safety, quality and/or inhibit the logical progress of work.
What You Need for this Position
Education: Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. ICC certification as a Commercial Building Inspector will be considered.
Experience: Possess at least seven (5) years of relevant construction experience with at least three (3) years of construction quality control experience. USACE QCS/RMS experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
American Society for Quality (ASQ), International Organization for Standards (ISO), or other quality management training and certification desired.
OSHA 30 hourStrong organizational, interpersonal skills.
CQM Certification.
Technical knowledge of materials and construction concepts.
Enforce all regulatory, base and company specific safety rules.
Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow procedures and schedules, and prioritize multiple tasks.
