As a Senior Accounting Analyst / Accounting Analyst, you will be part of the finance department supporting critical operational functions. + Heavy involvement in account reconciliations.
+ General Month-End support.
+ Support for quarterly reporting, including footnote disclosures (senior-level role).

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Secretary for Fiscal Affairs and Deputy Director of Accounting, the Accounting Analyst must be able to work closely with staff and other offices. DUTIES:
Duties will include answering phones, routing and responding to calls and questions interacting with all Senate offices. Code and review airfare, lodging, and auto rental. Process Member and Staff travel claims and mileage logs and vendor claims. Respond to inquiries regarding claim and payment status, including returned warrant and reissue process. Process Vendor claims for district offices. Separate and data enter claims in the Schedules system and put schedules together. Prepare closing office checklists. Maintain Travel System claim approval status. Update Schedule system with warrant information. Assist in pulling and preparing records in response to Legislative Open Record Act (LORA) requests. Work with Senate Information Technology to develop, test, and implement Accounting systems. Prepare, reconcile, and review monthly reports, and assist with month-end close. Delivery runs for documents as necessary. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Position Overview

The Accounting Analyst position is based in ExEDs Los Angeles home office, which comprises over 70 team members working with charter schools to ensure their success. The position offers a detail-oriented, highly organized professional opportunity to apply accounting knowledge in a unique wayby helping charter schools efficiently allocate and manage their public dollars. The Accounting Analyst will work in a collaborative, team-based environment with an Accounting Associate, Accounting Manager, and Vice President of School Finance, who oversees the operations of the entire team. The Accounting Analysts primary responsibility will be Accounts Payable.

Primary Responsibilities

Accounting & Payroll:

  • Coding and entering invoice and reimbursement information into the accounting system.
  • Reviewing vendor invoices, fulfilling check requests, scanning and storing documents, and maintaining vendor, school employee, and accounting files.
  • Responding to client and vendor inquiries and requests for information.
  • Assisting in payroll processing and preparing journal entries as needed.
  • Assisting in other activities, such as preparing monthly financial statements and completing compliance documents required for government oversight.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare all financial reporting to the public chartering agencies of clients.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for client schools.
  • Prepare information requested by auditors at yearend.

Client Management:

  • Directly interface with charter school clients to address inquiries and provide process guidance.
  • Train school site office managers on accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Visit client sites and assist with ad hoc or special projects.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in AP preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, business principles, and standard operating practices.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems required. Knowledge of MIP preferred.

We are looking for a meticulous Accounting Analyst to join a solid team based in Milford, Connecticut. This role primarily revolves around performing bank reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing journal entries and completing variance analysis. You will also be responsible for assisting with closing the books at month-end as well as some ad hoc analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to verify the company's bank balance matches our financial records
- Maintain the general ledger to ensure all financial reporting is accurate
- Prepare journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information
- Complete variance analysis at month end
- Conduct month-end close procedures to finalize the company's financial activities for the month
- Utilize NetSuite to streamline accounting processes and tasks
- Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve common goals
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards
- Assist in other accounting tasks and projects as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
- Proficiency in preparing journal entries and managing general ledger accounts.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
